Yin's POV

I made sure to take another couple Tylenol pills before going to bed.

I woke up with a sticky feeling all over. I must have sweated while I was asleep. Tylenol makes one sweat in order to lower one's temperature.

I got out of bed and made my way to the bathroom. The warm, almost too hot for my skin water enhanced my circulation so when I stepped out of the bathroom I felt invigorated.

Yup, I was ready to start my day.

I made myself an omelette out of three medium size eggs, minced onions, cut up tomatoes, julienned green bell peppers and dropped a dash of salt and ground black pepper. After I lifted it from the pan and into my plate I squeezed some tomato ketchup over it and drank a tall glass of orange juice in between forkfuls of the omelette.

After I brushed my teeth and combed my still damp hair into place, I headed out of my studio apartment and went down to the basement of the building where my car was parked.

I had just started the car when my phone started to ring.

Oh no,  why was my mom calling me so early in the morning.

I swiped my phone screen to take her call.

"Ma, how are you doing?" I asked, trying to hide the concern in my voice.

"I'm fine, son," she replied. "I just wanted to know how you're doing. I haven't heard from you in a long time."

"Does Pa know where I'm living right now?" I asked.

"No, he doesn't," I heard my mother reply. Thank God for that. I did not want my father sending someone over to my place to force me to go home.

"I'm doing okay," I replied. I did not want to mention my recent bout of illness. Anyway I was feeling better now.

"Are you eating well? Do you need any money?" my mother wanted to know.

"No, I don't but thanks for asking," I replied. "I have found a temporary job that pays enough to help me maintain my studio apartment and pay for other amenities."

"Well, son, don't hesitate to let me know if you need any money to be transferred to your bank account," my mom said. "And please keep in touch more often."

"I will," I replied. "Thanks, mom, I love you."

"I love you, too, son," my mom said. "Take care now", she added before ending the call.

My mind was distracted while I was driving towards War's house. My instinct was telling me that my mom was not telling me something. Should I feel worried or should I just take her word for it.

I parked my car by the curb across from War's house and used the duplicate key that Mr. Ratsameerat gave me to open the side gate that led to the driveway.

Sea was the one who opened the front door after I buzzed on it.

"Hey, it's good to see you looking all better," he said with a wide smile.

His handsome smile was enough to brighten my day and drive away my worries.

I did not expect him to give me a quick buddy hug but because he did so I returned the hug that he gave me.

"Errmmm..."

Sea and I quickly pulled apart upon hearing War's voice behind us.

"I'm glad to see that you got better," War replied. His face was expressionless and his voice sounded a bit dull and insincere, or maybe I was just overthinking.

"Are you ready to leave?" I asked him.

"As you can see, I am," he replied with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

I followed him out the door.

"I'll see you later, Yin," Sea called after me from the doorway.

"See you later," I called back.

"No you're not," War said under his breath.

I wanted to ask why not but I thought it best not to say anything.

I made sure to keep within the city speed limit. I was aware that War was very sensitive about overspending.

"Fever's gone?" War asked to break the silence after we were halfway to his university.

"Yup," I replied. "Tylenol did the trick, I guess."

"Good," he said. "I asked permission from my dad before we left this morning to hang out with my friend Carole after class. So after you pick me up at the usual time, I need you to bring me to Carole's house."

"Until what time will you be hanging out with her?" I asked.

"Probably an hour or so, I replied. "I will call you when I'm ready to be picked up."

"Okay," I said. I didn't see any problem with that,

When I picked War up at five thirty, he gave me  Carole's address and I inputted it on my phone map.

The address looked familiar and as I followed the directions something was telling me that I had been through these streets before.

When we stopped at the destination, it hit me. This was the kid's address!

"I thought you said you were hanging out with Carole!" I was not even aware that I had raised my voice at War.

"Yes!" War declared. "This is Carole's address! What's your problem?"

"You mean Carole and that kid live in the same house?" I asked incredulously.

"Of course they do! Wish is Carole's younger brother!" War replied.

"I see," I said, unaware that my voice had turned cold. "So you're making Carole your alibi to be able to see that kid again."

"Think what you like, I don't care," War said as he stepped out of the car and walked towards Carole's gate and pressed the buzzer.

So much for thinking that War had changed for the better.

I didn't mean for the tires to screech too loudly as I drove away like crazy from Carole's and that blasted kid's house.
