Chapter Forty-Eight

Moments later, An elf ran up to the group and interrupted, "Prince Legolas! My lord! The girl...you are needed!" He spoke hurriedly.

Legolas clenched his fists and turned his attention to the elf, "What's going on?"

"We were trying to secure her to the horse so we had to untie her feet...w-when she kicked Nolwen. But he didn't budge and she fell off..." The elf swallowed before continuing, "The horse got spooked and tried to bolt...and well, it trampled the girl's foot."

"Is she okay?" Nikandros asked urgently.

The elf ignored Nikandros, not even glancing at him.

Legolas blinked slowly and sighed, "Alright. Where is she?"

"Please! Let me see her!" Nikandros begged.

"You are not going anywhere." Legolas said impassively as he started following the elf to Thea.

"I won't try to escape! Please!"

Legolas ignored him and was soon to the other side of camp.

Thea was sprawled on the ground, her hands still bound, but her feet were not. She was crying softly as a group of elves stood around her, unsure of what to do. Legolas bent down by her and looked at her feet. He withheld a gasp when he located the foot that had been trampled.

It was cocked at a weird angle, already turning black and blue. It was obvious that it was broken. Legolas carefully grasped the foot in his hands and felt along it, trying to feel how bad the injury was. Thea cried out when he touched it, but he didn't stop.

Analia had followed Legolas to where Thea was lying on the ground. Her eyes widened as she saw Thea's broken foot.

Thea continued screaming and crying for Legolas to stop. He didn't until he had finished his examination, even though he didn't wish to cause her pain.

When he had finished, Legolas stood up and turned to the group of elves, "We will have to delay our journey until this is taken care of. Nolwen, choose three other elves to be on watch. Everyone else, finish preparing to leave. We will try to leave within an hour."

Analia walked over to Nolwen, "I can be one of the elves on watch." She offered.

Nolwen nodded, "That will be fine-"

"No. I need Analia." Legolas interrupted. He looked at her, "You are the closet thing to a healer we have right now. I need your help with the girl."

"M-me?" Analia asked, a little astonished.

"Yes, you." Legolas answered, a little crossly.

"Sorry, my lord."

He just sighed, "It's fine, Analia. Just please come help me. I am about fed up with these humans."

Analia walked over to Thea and looked at her, "This is going to hurt, but I need to get your foot back in shape."

She shook her head, "No, please don't! Please..." She sobbed.

"It's okay." Analia smiled encouragingly, "It'll be quick."

"No! It hurts too much. D-don't touch it!" She repeated.

"You won't be able to walk if we don't do this." Analia said softly, "Is that what your husband would want?" She added for good measure.

"Leave...me alone!" Thea screamed.

Legolas shook his head, "I'm going to bring her over to her husband. Maybe he can calm her down." He brought his arms around Thea and hoisted her up into his arms with a grunt.

Analia nodded, "Should I bring him here instead?" She asked.

"No. I don't want to give him any leverage." With that, Legolas headed across the camp, Analia right behind.

Nikandros had been begging the guards to go to Thea when he saw her being carried by Legolas towards him.

"Thea!" He exclaimed, concerned, "Are you okay?" She didn't answer, but he could see she was in immense pain.

Legolas laid her down on a blanket near Nikandros that an elf had laid out. As yet another elf drew out his bow, Legolas untied Nikandros' hands and feet.

"What do you want me to do?" Nikandros asked, confused.

"Calm her down." Legolas answered impassively.

Nikandros laid his hand over Thea's bound hands. "It's okay Thea. I'm right here."

"I-it hurts..." She gasped, not wanting to move for fear that it would hurt worse.

"They are trying to help you. Just take deep breaths." Nikandros tried to sooth her.

"I'm...afraid." She whispered.

"Don't be." He smiled, "Everything is going to be fine." She nodded faintly and closed her eyes.

Legolas, seeing her calmer, knelt down near her foot. While Nikandros had been speaking to her, he had collected some medical items. He glanced at Nikandros, "Keep her calm and still." Then he gripped Thea's foot and with a loud snap, straightened it out. A horrific scream was wrenched from Thea's mouth as her body jerked to get away from the pain.

The scream wrenched Nikandros' heart, but he held her firmly, speaking to her calmly, "It's okay, Thea. I'm right here."

Quickly, Legolas brought out a knife and used his other hand to keep her ankle from moving. He made a inch long cut right where the bone had been broken. Thea grit her teeth as hard as she could, trying to keep from crying out again. As Legolas reached his fingers into the cut, she whimpered.

Trying to ignore everything around him, Legolas remembered what he had learned about broken bones. He felt a severed piece of bone and wiggled it back into place. This little action alone, caused Thea to break her resolve as she screamed again. This time, however, the pain became too much and she passed out.
Analia watched Legolas put the bone back into place with fascination. 'This would be a valuable skill to learn,' she mused. Legolas noticed Thea fall unconscious and breathed deeply in relief. He felt around the break for several more minutes until he was satisfied that all the fragments were back in place.

As he stitched up her foot, applied a splint, and bandaged it all up, he barked out an order, "Tie him back up." Analia took the ropes that had been lying on the grass and moved to tie Nikandros up.

A desperate plan had started to form in Nikandros' mind, but was crushed soon after as he realized that if he did threaten Analia, Thea would be threatened as well. Sighing, he held his hands out to be bound. Analia quickly and efficiently bound Nikandros' hands and turned to Legolas, "Is there anything else, my lord?"

"His feet as well, Analia." Legolas answered, not even looking up as he focused on Thea.

Analia nodded, "Of course. Apologies." She grabbed some other rope and gestured for Nikandros to sit down. He complied, and she swiftly bound his feet.

When Legolas had finished thoroughly bandaging Thea's foot, he leaned back. Gathering the leftover supplies, he stood up and turned to go, "We will leave when she wakes up. Analia stay and guard them. As soon as she is awake, I want to know. Everyone else continue preparing to leave!"

Analia nodded, "Yes, Prince Legolas."

Once everyone had gone back to their tasks, the camp settled down.

Analia studied where Nikandros and Thea were for a moment before moving a few yards away on the opposite side of them. Sitting down cross-legged, Analia studied the two humans.

After a couple minutes of silence, Thea groaned and shifted. Analia immediately stood up and walked towards her. Nikandros had already edged his way towards her awkwardly.

Analia crouched beside Thea, "Are you awake?" She asked. Thea groaned again in response and cracked open her eyes. As the pain hit her, she let out a quiet gasp. "It's alright." Analia said softly, "Does your foot hurt?"

Shutting her eyes tightly again, Thea managed a small nod.

"Is it a sharper pain or just an ache?" Analia asked.

"I-I'm...not...sure. Maybe an...ache? But it's really r-really...bad," she moaned again.

Analia stood up, "Nela! Fetch Prince Legolas." She ordered a nearby elf.

The elf called Nela looked confused for a moment, "Why? Oh...never mind. I get it." She sent Analia a smile and hurried off to find Legolas.

Nikandros looked worriedly at Thea, "Will she be okay?"

Analia nodded defenitely, "Prince Legolas knew what he was doing." She smiled encouragingly. Comforted somewhat, Nikandros fell silent.

Nela came back over followed by Legolas.

He came to stand near Thea and bent down next to her, "How are you feeling?"

Thea opened her eyes and squinted at Legolas. "How do you think I'm feeling?" She snapped.

Legolas placed his hand against her forehead, ignoring her rude comment. Then, he turned to her foot, "Is it hurting badly?"

"Y-yes."

"Hmm...well that is to be expected. It was a bad break. Unfortunately, you will not have much rest. We have already lingered here too long." Satisfied that her foot wasn't in critical condition, he stood back up and stared at an elf that was packing up some food. "Malquen! Please come over here and help me secure her to a horse." Malquen strode over immediately and began helping Legolas secure Thea to a horse. As they began lifting her, Thea cried out. Legolas paused and glanced at her face. "I'm sorry. We need to get moving," he apologized.

They hoisted her over the horse so that she was sitting on it normally. Then, Legolas tied her hands to the saddle of the horse. He ordered Malquen to hold on to her horse and keep an eye on her as they finished getting ready.

Then, Legolas brought over another horse for Nikandros. He bent down and looked straight into Nikandros' eyes, "If you try to do anything stupid, you and your wife will pay."

Nikandros nodded, resignedly, and stood up awkwardly. Legolas untied his feet and waited while he climbed on. Once he was on it and steady, Legolas secured his hands to the saddle as well.

Finally, they were all ready to go. The last elves mounted their horses and they began riding.

Heading straight for Gondor.

What will happen next? Will they be brought to Gondor and face their fate with King Degore, or will they escape? A new chapter will be posted soon so read on!
