bright eyed and pure hearted

here to take on the world

no one could have predicted

all the pain along the road

just ten years ago i thought

perhaps i would be a writer or an artist

waking up with the new york lights

and chasing sunsets along the coast

by twenty i would have thought

happiness walked with me

yet here i lay on the ground

cold and alone and lost

nobody expects at twenty

you can't look yourself in the eye

facing failure in the macabre mirror

unable to recover the broken dreams
