Chapter Sixty-Seven

This chapter contains a brief spoiler from The Tyrant's Tomb, The Trials of Apollo!

"I can't believe Leo just sent us to Camp," Annabeth commented as she pulled their car over at the familiar sight of Half Blood Hill. "I thought he had something special planned?"

Percy shrugged as he unbuckled his seatbelt. "That's what his text said, anyways. Now let's go, they'll probably already all be waiting for us. We're running a tad late..."

Annabeth arched an eyebrow as she left the car and started helping Marina and Charlie out. "A tad, Percy? We're almost twenty minutes late, and in no way is it my fault!"

"It's not mine!" he protested as he locked their car. "Your the one who insisted you didn't need Google Maps, like you were superior or something, and got lost!"

Her face turned a light shade of pink. "I didn't get lost! Just an....unplanned scenic drive...I wasn't lost, though! And you insisted on having blue pancakes this morning, and they took so long to make!"

"Well, you—!"

"Percabeth, hello!" Leo's familiar voice shouted as he sprinted down the hill, his arms open in greeting. "We were about to send a search party out for you guys!"

Percy flared his nostrils. "Sorry about that, some of us just like to be leisure."

Annabeth hit him playfully as he grabbed her hand and they walked up the hill, Charlie and Marina already ahead of them.

"Uncle Leo!" they cried as they ran up to him.

Leo grinned as he led them over the hill and through camp. "Just wait until you guys see this! It'll be totally epic!"

"I'm surprised you didn't have this at your store," Annabeth commented as Leo grinned. "It's big enough to host it, anyways."

"Well, I thought something else was needed as this is a big anniversary!" Leo said as they neared the end of the cabins.

"Is this the tenth year or something?" Annabeth asked.

He shook his head. "Nah, but every anniversary is special to me. Now keep up, we're almost there!"

As they neared the shore the surprise Leo had been talking about came into view. In the waters of the Long Island Sound sat almost an exact replica of the Argo II.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Leo asked as they reached the beach. "I call it the Argo III!"

All of their eyes widened, clearly amazed by the boat. Leo just stood there and grinned, his hands placed triumphantly on his hips.

"Is the party on the boat?" Percy asked hesitantly as he gained the ability to speak again.

Leo laughed and rolled his eyes. "No way, Percy. It's more of a monument. You wouldn't climb Mount Rushmore, would you? The parties at the Big House."

"And Mr.D and Chiron are allowing this?" Annabeth asked with a laugh.

Leo shook his head as he started off towards the Big House, everyone following him. "It's the Summer Solstice, Annabeth! I'm surprised you didn't remember. Mr.D is at Olympus."

Percy frowned. "And Chiron? And aren't you scared a camper will tell Chiron on you?"

Although they were all adults now, they weren't immune to the fear of Chiron or Mr.D's wrath.

"Do I have to repeat that it's the summer solstice?" he asked, clearly growing annoyed.

"A field trip, every few years they're allowed to go and visit," Annabeth finished, putting it all together. "The campers are all on Mount Olympus and Chiron is there as a chaperone, right?"

"Precisely, Annabeth! You really are smart," he said. "And don't worry, Chiron knows that we're here. I just told him it was a visit."

Annabeth peered at Percy, clearly surprised. "You really are a genius, Leo. So is everyone inside the Big House?"

He nodded as they approached the Big House. "Thank you, Annabeth. I'm married, though. And yes, everyone is waiting for you."

Annabeth rolled her eyes as Leo opened the door to the Big House, revealing Piper, Jason, Hazel, Calypso, Nico, Juniper, Will, Grover, Frank, Reyna, and, surprisingly, Coach Hedge.

"I didn't know Coach Hedge would be here," Percy said as they walked inside.

Coach Hedge glared up at him intimidatingly. "I'm here to make sure you cupcakes don't break any rules, you hear me?"

Percy gulped nervously. "Yes, Coach Hedge."

Marina and Charlie broke away from Percy and Annabeth and made their way over to Romeo, Camellia, Evan, and Daisy, Grover and Juniper's daughter, who were already fawning over Hazel and baby Emily.

"Be careful, you two! Don't tire Auntie Hazel out, okay?" Annabeth warned. The kids all nodded very seriously, including Romeo and Camellia, who she wasn't even talking to.

"You terrify everyone, Annabeth, I can't believe Romeo listens to you," Jason commented. "He won't listen to me at all. But Piper...he does anything she says. And she swears it's not charmspeak..."

"It's not!" Piper protested as she glared at Jason. "I swear!"

After chatting with Piper and Jason for awhile, they found themselves in a conversation with Reyna.

"Thalia sends her love," Reyna told them. "She wishes she could come, but Artemis would only let one of us away."

Annabeth nodded. "Tell her we miss her, too! And I'm sure they'll be another one of these things, too, knowing Leo."

Reyna laughed and peered at Leo from across the room, who was currently going on and on about his store to a more than bored looking Coach Hedge. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure we can count on that."

Then she started talking to Frank about Nee Rome, even though he had stepped down from his role of praetor.

After chatting with nearly everyone about everything, Grover suggested a casual game of Capture the Flag, which caused everyone instantly jump into action.

"You're on my team," Annabeth assured Percy. He rolled his eyes. "Now let's get Piper and Jason, I'm sure they're allied together. And maybe Reyna, if we can manage...."

"What about Grover and Juniper?" Percy asked.

Annabeth peered over at them. They were standing suspiciously close to Nico and Will, and they were all whispering to each other. "Crap, they look like they're already allied! Just go, get Piper and Jason while we can!"

They rushed over to Piper and Jason who were, thankfully, free, and very confused why they were taking this so seriously. At least Jason was.

"It's not like this is war games!" Jason protested as Piper started comparing her plan to Annabeth's.

Piper glared at him angrily. "Ignore him, he's just sad I always kick his ass. Now let's get to planning! Reyna is on our side, but the opposing team has Nico, Will, Grover, Juniper, and Coach Hedge."

"Easy, then we take Hazel and Frank," Percy suggested. "That'd be a perfect team!"

"Lower your voice!" Annabeth whispered. "But I agree."

Jason shook his head. "They opted out since there's no one to watch Emily, and she obviously can't play."

"She can't?" Percy asked. They all glared at him. "What? It's never to early to learn!"

After they assembled their battle plan and collected Marina, Charlie, and Romeo, who were all on their side, they made their way out of the Big House and near the woods.

"Now no violence! Calypso and I will be the judges, so please keep it clean!" Leo shouted. "And Frank will be flying overhead as an eagle, so he can see your every move. That will keep you honest. The flags are already out there, you know where they are. Now, start!"

"Percy, you go by the river and bring Marina with you," Annabeth commanded. "I'll stay with Charlie, we can sneak and get the flag while Jason and Piper pretend to go at it from the front. Reyna, you can stay here and guard, right?"

Reyna nodded. "I think I can handle it. If I need backup I'll call for Percy, he's nearby. Now go win!"

Annabeth nodded as she grabbed Charlie and they ran off, sneaking through the woods and by the riverbank not to be seen.

As she heard the clanking of swords, Annabeth could tell that their plan to distract them had worked. She even heard Piper's charmspeak, that almost made her want to lay down her weapon and let Piper take their flag.

"Annabeth! There she is!" Will yelled as he ran towards her. "Guys, we were right! They staged the Jason and Piper attack! Come quick!"

Grover and Nico quickly ran over to Will's side.

Annabeth sighed as she peered back at Percy, who they hadn't spotted yet. She nodded at him, hoping he knew what to do.

He apparently did as in an instant a giant wave of water came pouring over Will, Nico, and Grover.

"Percy—he's here!" Grover protested as he moved his wet hair out of his face. "Show yourself, Percy!"

Nico shook his head. "I bet he's gone after the flag! I'll go back with Will, stay here, Grover!"

They ran back towards their flag, leaving Grover alone.

"Go bag to our flag," Annabeth whispered in Charlie's ear as he pushed him away. "Hey, there, Grover."

"Where's Percy?" Grover asked as he approached her slowly. "I don't want to hurt you, but I need to know if he's going after the flag."

Annabeth laughed. "Oh, you're not going to hurt me Grover. I won't let you, don't worry. And Percy's whereabouts are none of your business."

"He's at their base!" Nico yelled as he appeared out of a cloud of black mist at Grover's side. "He must've gotten back quick, Marina's with him, too, so it's just us against Annabeth—"

Then another wave poured over Nico and Grover, causing Annabeth to widen her eyes in shock.

"Percy?" she asked while frowning. He wasn't where he had been assigned and was no where near sight.

Grover frowned. "Stop it, I don't like being attacked with water! And drop the act, we know Percy's here!"

"Impossible, I was just at their base!" Nico protested. "Wait, give me a second."

He disappeared in black mist and reappeared a second later, Percy with him this time and fighting to get away.

"How—you shadow travelled me! No wonder I feel sick now....let me go!" he yelled. He quickly freed himself and ran towards Annabeth.

"Wait, you weren't just underwater?" she asked. "I thought you just splashed them!"

He shook his head, concern on his expression. "I haven't splashed them all night, the first one must've been Marina but she's at base now, so I have no clue who—"

Percy was interrupted by another huge splash over Grover and Nico.

"Would you stop that?!" Nico shouted. "It was you all along! I knew it!"

Percy shook his head. "That wasn't me, I swear! But it was a little funny. Marina must be nearby...."

Then, in a instant, more water came up, this time only ankle level.

"Seriously, Percy, stop it," Grover said. "And drop the act, Annabeth. We know it's him. Although you should win a Grammy with that acting."

Annabeth narrowed her eyes. "I'm not acting, and Grammy's are for singing! An Oscar, Grover!"

He shrugged. "I'm just saying, you—"

Another wave of water rolled over them as Charlie rushed over to them from the woods near the river.

"Did you—did you just do that?!" Percy asked as he scooped Charlie up off the ground.

Charlie nodded. "Mommy told me to help, and Uncle Grover was being annoying."

"He's got one thing right," Annabeth muttered not so quietly.

"Hey!" Grover protested. Charlie frowned and with the flick of his wrist another wave of water rolled over them.

"Leave me out of this! That was all Grover!" Nico said as he shook his head, water dropping off of it.

"Ugh, don't shake like that! You're getting me all wet!" Annabeth protested. "Ugh, and of course you two are still dry...."

Grover grinned maliciously as he started to shake off. "Oh, really, Annabeth? We're terribly sorry!"

Annabeth screeched as she placed her hands up over her face. "Spray them again, you two!"

"I've got the flag, I've got the flag!"

All their eyes turned towards Piper, who was rushing past them, a flag in her hands. Grover and Nico instantly ran after her, but were quickly stopped by Percy and Annabeth.

After one more wave of water, this time intentional by Percy, Piper was able to bring the flag back to their base, where it instantly matched the color of their flag.

"How did you do it?" Annabeth asked.

Piper grinned. "I may have sacrificed Jason, but he's alright now!"

"Barely," Jason murmured as he rubbed his face, a bruise appearing on his forehead. "Who knew Coach Hedge could be so brutal..."

"We all knew that," Reyna protested. "You probably have that bruise because you underestimated him."

Jason nodded and winced. "I still can't believe you used me as a distraction, though, Pipes."

"We still won, and your face will heal," she said indifferently. "Also, Percy, good job with the water. Grover told me all about it, now that was hilarious!"

"I only did it once, though," he protested. "The rest was all Charlie."

Piper grinned and high fived Charlie. "Great job, I always knew there was greatness in you. Now let's go gloat!"

She ran off, Jason stumbling behind her, to go see the other team. The rest of them soon followed, leaving Percy and Annabeth alone.

"So, he has powers...." Percy said as he leaned against Zeus's fist, which they had been using as a base to place their flag on.

Annabeth nodded as she sat next to him. "I'm not sure if that complicates or simplify our lives."

"You know his planning face looks exactly like yours," Percy said, causing Annabeth to blush. "He does that cute little frown thing, just like you. And I guess you were right."

Annabeth nodded triumphantly. "I knew he had powers! I could just tell! I just hope he doesn't overuse them."

Percy laughed as he grabbed her hand. "Well, we'll be okay. Although maybe we should start bringing Marina and Charlie here. After all, the Mist can only do so much."

"Yeah, and I'm growing sick of getting calls from Marina's teachers and having to replace water fountains..." Annabeth said.

"Like haven't broken a water fountain in your day," Percy murmured, a smirk appearing on your face.

"You're truly something else, seaweed brain."

"I know, wise girl."
