Chapter Sixty-Five

Although Charlie's broken arm wasn't as serious as it could've been, the next few weeks Annabeth could not stop stressing.

"Are you sure we should send him to daycare again?" asked Annabeth as she peered at Charlie.

Percy shrugged and pressed a hand to his forehead. "I don't think he's warm....although I don't trust those people anymore."

Annabeth nodded. "This would just be so much easier if his arm were healed already. We should just prove to Chiron he has powers...."

"There's no way to do that," Percy said as he sat down next to Charlie, who was playing with his food. "Do you feel okay?"

Charlie shrugged and ignored Percy, still playing with his food. "I miss everyone...."

"We've gotta send him back," Annabeth said as she pulled Percy into the hallway. "Look how sad he is!"

Percy sighed and crossed his arms, his gaze still fixed on Charlie. "But what if his arm gets worst there? What if he breaks the other one? Or a leg?"

"I know, but he looks so sad—" Annabeth started. Then her eyes lit up. "Give me a second..."

Percy followed Annabeth into the kitchen where she grabbed a bowl and filled it with water. "Uh...what are you doing? Your expression scares me. That's your going to do something crazy face."

"I don't have one of those," she snapped as she placed the bowl down on the table. "Let's just see if Charlie can do anything to it—"

"Annabeth, no!"

Percy scooped the bowl away and dumped it down the drain, causing Annabeth to narrow her eyes at him.

"But it would make his life so much easier—!" Annabeth protested as Percy led her out into the hall again. "He'd get to see his friends again!"

"I know, Annabeth, but we can't," he said. "What if....what if we don't like the results, huh? What if he's just a mortal? What would happen to him? Would Marina tease him? Would he feel bad and have it be our fault?"

Annabeth frowned. "I....I don't know. I suppose you're right, he's just....Fine, I get it. Let's just let him heal and what happens will happen. I'm fine if he's a mortal or if he has no powers. I'm fine with anything."

Percy nodded, his eyes still fixated on Charlie. "Now I feel bad. What if he is a legacy, though? What if—"

"No," Annabeth decided. "You were right, now let's just take him to daycare and tell him to be extra safe, alright? We can't get worked up over this, no matter how much we want to."

"You're right," Percy admitted as he followed her back into the kitchen.

"Always am."
