Chapter Seven

Annabeth checked her phone for a new message every minute. She hadn't been able to sleep last night, her fear of waking up from a nightmare without Percy terrified her, so she brewed herself some coffee and watched the stars.

The only flaw in her plan-Percy. She couldn't stop thinking about him and his dorky grin and gorgeous eyes. She didn't even like star watching.

After sipping her coffee slowly she heard a buzz from her phone. She quickly dropped the mug, spilling it all over her kitchen counter. That didn't matter.

She quickly scooped the phone from the coffee mess and read the message. Her heart sank as she read it.

{Piper}-Hey ladies! Care to join me for a quick bite at a cute coffee shop?

Annabeth sighed and ignored the text. She, instead, cleaned the coffee off her counters and floors. Then her phone buzzed again.

{Hazel}-Of course! I'm a bit jet lagged from flying here but I'll meet you there, just text the address

Annabeth realized that both Hazel and Piper were jet lagged, as it was around six in the morning and they sounded fully awake and not as exhausted as she was.

{Calypso}-why r you guys texting?? It's six in the freaking morning! It's bad enough my shift starts in an hour...

{Piper}-So I'm taking that as a no. Anna?

Annaebeth set down the coffee mug and started typing her reply. She knew they'd just nag her into going and, since she had nothing else to do, she decided to attend.

{Annabeth}-Text the address, I'll meet you guys there. See you soon!

Annabeth quickly made her way to her bedroom and slipped on the nearest clothes she could find. Then she grabbed her bag and her phone. Piper had texted her the address.

She slid into a cab and alerted the driver on where she needed to be. They nodded and sped to the small but cozy coffee shop Piper had recommended.

"Thanks, keep the change," Annabeth said after she paid the cabbie for driving her. She entered the coffee shop where Piper and Hazel were already sipping hot drinks.

"Annabeth!" Hazel greeted, a warm smile on her face. "I'm glad you could make it."

"How did you two get here so fast?" Annabeth asked. "Are you two the new freaking flashes?"

Piper chuckled. "No, silly, our hotel is just down the street."

Annabeth nodded and sat down on the empty seat chair reserved for her. She quickly ordered before delving into their conversation.

"So, what's new?" Piper asked. "Uh, Leo kinda told me about Percy and the fight."

"How does Leo know?" Annabeth asked, a frown plastered on her face.

Hazel shrugged. "I'd assume since that's where Percy's staying."

"I just wish he'd come home," Annabeth said. "I miss him, but I know if I see him I'll completely cave!"

"Why don't you want kids?" Piper asked.

Annabeth sighed and planted her face in her palms. "I don't want to get into it."

"No, I'm serious," Piper said. "Uh, Jason and I are kind deciding if we want to be, mm, super serious and stuff. That means a proposal would be on the table. And, uh, I don't even know if I want kids. I want your advice, Annie. Let me see your perspective."

"Fine, Pipes," Annabeth said and rolled her eyes. "I've never really wanted kids. I mean, I'm a demigod. They'd be in danger constantly."

"And you don't think you and Percy could protect them?" Piper asked.

"I'm not here to be persuaded, Piper," Annabeth snapped. "Did Percy put you up to this?"

Piper turned bright red and sipped her coffee slowly.

"What did he give you?" I asked. "And how did you take whatever bribe he gave you? I thought we were friends, Pipes!"

"Hey! I took no bribes," Piper said proudly. "I just want you two to have kids, they would be totally adorable!"

Annabeth sighed. "I need to talk to Percy about this, not you guys. I'm sorry."

Annabeth paid her portion of the bill, grabbed her bag, and made her way to the front of the building. She started power walking to Leo's apartment, ready to drag Percy back to theirs and actually have a real talk.

Then a sickening scream filled her ears. She turned to see dozens of mortals yelling and pointing at a large monster-the Minotaur.

"Look at that bull!" a mortal yelled. "It must have stumbled here from a farm or something!"

Annabeth rolled her eyes. This was no ordinary bull, this was only half bull, the other half human.

Annabeth could tell the Minotaur smelled her as he was rampaging towards her. She quickly pulled her dagger out of her bag and readied herself for battle.

Please let Piper and Hazel notice, Annabeth prayed as she eyed up the restaurant window. She wasn't too far from it.

Then the Minotaur spotted her. He roared in agony and stomped his back feet. She swallowed back her fear and prepared to dodge his attack.

The first lunge she missed just barely. He landed on the sidewalk and his body made a horrific cracking noise. That only enraged him more.

"Piper! Hazel!" Annabeth yelled, drawing the minotaur's attention towards her. He growled and charged, this time falling into a window of a nearby store.

"Is everyone okay?!" Annabeth yelled into the store. It appeared to be empty, and yelling was a huge mistake. The Minotaur lunged at her and this time he didn't miss.

Annabeth screamed and quickly threw her dagger with full force. The dagger hit the Minotaur and the instant it hit him he turned to dust.

Piper and Hazel both ran to Annabeth, both wielding their weapons.

"Are you alright?" Hazel asked Annabeth as she helped her up.

Annabeth frowned. "I-I think I'm alright, just a little shaken up."

Piper handed Annabeth her dagger and the Minotaur horns-her battle spoil.

"Ewww," Hazel said as Annabeth placed the horns in her bag. "Those are gross."

"Where's Percy?" Annabeth asked quietly. "I-I need to find him."

"Leo's apartment, didn't we already tell you?" Piper asked.

Annabeth nodded and remained her past speed to get to Leo's apartment. She was only stopped by Hazel, pulling her back to them.

"Hey, you were just in a battle. We need to make sure you're okay," Hazel said.

Annabeth brushed Hazel's arms off of her and continued walking. "I'm fine, I swear. I just need Percy."

Hazel and Piper gave up after trying to stop her a few more times. Annabeth made her way into a taxi. She told the driver the address and soon she arrived.

She quickly paid the driver before running up to the apartment. She knocked on the door hastily before it swung open to reveal Percy.

Annabeth immediately pulled him into a deep kiss. He was shocked, but quickly returned the kiss.

"I missed you," he said after they pulled apart. "What made you come here?"

"I was attacked," Annabeth answered vaguely. Percy's eyes widened, "by the Minotaur. But I'm okay. Let's never fight again..."

"Agreed," Percy said. After a moment of peace he spoke. "But what about the issue?"

"I still don't want kids," Annabeth said. "Right now. But...I think I will in the future."

"How long?" Percy asked.

"I don't know."

He nodded and took her hand. "Let's go back home."

"And plan our wedding," Annabeth replied. "I can't think of not being married to you for another second."
