Chapter Four

Percy and Annabeth stood anxiously outside their new apartment door. Annabeth clutching a box and lamp and Percy clutching the keys, they were ready to go in.

"You want to open it?" Annabeth asked timidly.

Percy nodded. "Yeah, yeah. I'm getting to that. Unless you want to."

"No, you're the one with the keys," Annabeth replied. Percy bit his lip and nodded. He was the one with the keys.

After another moment of silence Percy sighed. "This doesn't feel right."

"I know!" Annabeth said. They both smiled at each other. "Why doesn't this feel right?"

"Have we got the right apartment?" Percy asked. Annabeth nodded before pulling out her phone to recheck the addresses.

"This is it."

They both stared at the door, still clutching their items and unable to open it.

"I know," Percy said. He took the box from Annabeth and set down the lamp. Then he unlocked the door and opened it just a crack so they couldn't see inside.

"Percy, what are you doing?" Annabeth asked as he scooped her into his arms. Then she realized. "And why does this feel right?"

Percy smiled. "We're practically an old married couple. Now into our new abode!"

Annabeth kicked open the door and laughed as Percy carried her inside. It was a marriage tradition, but it just felt right for them. As Percy had said, they practically were an old married couple.

Percy set Annabeth down on the counter. "We're home!"

Annabeth quickly jumped down from the counter and rushed out to the hall to collect their stuff before someone spotted it and grabbed it. She set it down on the counter and smiled.

"Shall we have a tour?" she asked. Percy linked arms with her.

"We shall!"

They walked through the apartment in their dorky style.

The kitchen was first on their tour. It had pretty new appliances with an old chipped dining table near a window. They didn't have a need for a dining room, so they didn't find an apartment with one.

The living room was nice and cozy with a few mismatched sofas and chairs. There was a small lamp and television and television stand waiting to be decorated with pictures and knick knacks of theirs.

The spare bedroom was just an office for now as they had no need for it to be anything else. They didn't have many guests and if they did they all lived in range to them.

The master bedroom was gorgeous and the main attraction with its ceiling to floor windows that showed the city. Their bed and mattress was already positioned correctly, all they had to do was place sheets and a quilt on it.

"Shall we test the bed?" Annabeth asked with a suggestive raise of her eyebrow.

"With jumping on the bed?!" Percy asked excitingly. Annabeth rolled her eyes.

"Fine, but only if that concludes a pillow fight!" she yelled and picked up a feathery pillow from the ground. She threw one to Percy and they started fighting intensely.

After a few hours of fighting (they were much equal in skill, so not one could defeat the other) Annabeth pinned Percy down, a pillow aimed at his face.

"Show me mercy!" Percy begged.

"I show no mercy!" Annabeth smiled before shoving the pillow in his face. She pushed her off him and onto the bed.

"You're in for it next time, Chase," Percy said with a sly smile on his face.

"Oh yeah?" she asked and scooped up the pillows off the ground. She readjusted them nicely on the bed. "I think you're scared."

"Scared?" Percy asked. "In your dreams! I'll annihilate you, Chase."

It was hard to believe Percy and Annabeth were in a truly loving and perfect relationship when they spoke to each other like that.

"Yeah, right!" Annabeth said and tackled him into the bed. She pinned him onto the bed and pulled him into a kiss. "I know your only weakness."

"You?" Percy asked sheepishly.

She smiled. "Even better. Tickles!"

She started tickling Percy and he laughed uncontrollably. "No! Stop! I surrender! I surrender!"

"You've already lost, Jackson," she replied. Then she stopped. "Admit I'm the queen of pillow fights."

"You're the queen of pillow fights," Percy said and fake bowed. They both laughed and sat in bed for a few more minutes, calming down.

"Hey, when is Sally getting here?" Annabeth asked as she started picking up the mess from their pillow fight. Percy started helping her.

"Not sure. I think around six," Percy replied. "We should have plenty of time. I mean, it's only four."

"It's four?!" Annabeth shrieked. Percy nodded. "We need to start dinner, make the place look more presentable, get ready, clean up this mess-"

Percy's eyes widened. "Hey, it'll be alright."

She nodded. "Yeah, you're right."

Then Percy's phone buzzed. He located it in the mess and read the screen.

"Actually, I'm wrong. My mom wants to come early, at five," Percy said. Annabeth's jaw dropped. "I need you to go into hyper mode."

"How hyper?" she asked.

Percy thought. "You know that time you asked everyone at the deli what time they'd arrived and how long they'd been waiting and made them get in a line based on that since their ticket machine had broken?"

Annabeth nodded.

"More."

She gulped. "Are we really up for that?"

Percy nodded. "Make a plan! Go!"

Annabeth smiled. "Alright. You start dinner while I quickly clean. Then I make dinner while you get ready. Then I get ready while you watch the food. I set the table and then we switch and you'll be ready to greet our guests."

"I like it," Percy said with a grin. He loved Annabeth's crazy plans.

"Move it! Move it!" Annabeth yelled and dashed out to the living room. Percy chuckled to himself.

A knock at the door alerted them that the time was here. Annabeth quickly finished adjusting the food on the plates while Percy ran his fingers through his hair.

"Coming!" Percy yelled as he approached the door. He opened it to see Sally, Paul, and Estelle's smiling faces.

Sally immediately pulled Percy into a hug. "I'm so proud of you!"

Percy blushed and scratched his head. His mom's approval meant a lot from him. "Thanks, mom."

Estelle immediately ran to hug Annabeth. She smiled as she pulled her into a hug.

"Annabeth!" Sally said and hugged Annabeth. "How's moving?"

"Great," Annabeth said and smiled sarcastically. "I think we did a pretty good job for our first day, though."

Sally nodded as she examined the apartment. "It looks great! Could we get a tour?"

Annabeth nodded and her and Percy showed them around. They all commented on how nice it was before smelling the food.

"Did you two cook?" Paul asked.

They nodded.

"That's great! I'm exited to taste it," Sally commented. They quickly led them to their dining table with metal fold up chairs.

"We'll go get the food," Annabeth said. "You guys make yourself comfortable."

They scrambled to the kitchen where they collected the pasta dish they'd been making. They set it down in the middle of the table and immediately everyone breathed it in.

"Mmm, smells yummy!" Estelle said. Percy and Annabeth shared a smile at Estelle's cute comment as everyone dug into the food.

"This is amazing! I had no clue how great of chefs you two are," Sally said with a slight grin and an arched eyebrow of suspicion on her face.

"Thanks," Percy replied. "It was Annabeth, really. She helped me, a lot."

"Don't discredit yourself," Annabeth said with a grin. "He was an eager student and helped equally. I'd say we know an even amount of cooking, I'm just less clumsy."

Percy nodded. "The woman's right."

They all laughed. They chatted casually for the rest of the dinner. Sally casually slipped in future plans, Estelle asked Percy about a cartoon show they both watched, and Paul and Annabeth had an intellectual conversation, all in the span of one dinner.

Towards the end of the night everyone was feeling sleepy and full.

"We should head out," Paul said as he scooped an asleep Estelle off their sofa.

Annabeth nodded understandably. "Perhaps someday we'll have a proper guest room."

"We look forwards to that," Sally said as she placed a hand on Paul's shoulder. "Thanks for having us. And the meal was delicious."

"I agree," Paul said. "And I'm certain Estelle would too if she weren't asleep."

"Well, Goodnight. Call me when you guys get home," Percy said and they nodded.

As they left Percy couldn't help but feel his heart swell with pride. He'd finally done it. He had a successful life. Not fully, not yet, anyways. He had an apartment, he'd been to college, he had an amazing girlfriend, and an amazing family.

That night Percy felt on top of the world.
