Not going to lie, it was a little awkward on the walk down there. We both were very quiet.

"I know you probably don't want to talk about it, but I'm sorry." I said and she looked down.

"It wasn't your fault, I should've have lied, or run away in the first place. I let you down, how am I supposed to live with that?" She asked and I stayed quiet. "Maybe we could forget this all and just go back to being best friends?"

"I'd like that." I said and we walked to the kitchen where there was food already out from whoever was in here last.

We ended up eating the left over pasta they made, then together we talked about what went on in each others life's.

We updated each other on simple things.

"I don't know if you know, but I'm retiring." She blurted out. "Wait, what?" I asked. I felt blindsided.

"It's for the best, everyone else already knows."

"Dani, you're the only reason I became an Avenger. Why are you quitting?"

She looked down and brushed some hair behind her ear. "I've done to much bad, it can't be erased. I think it'll be best if I give up the superhero act."

"Dani,"

"Bucky, I bought an apartment outside of the city, I'm moving out for good." She said.

"So it's already decided." I sighed and she nodded. "But I'll still be here all the time,"

"I just, think you're moving a bit too fast. You are the only reason I moved into this tower and became an Avenger, I don't know what I'll do without you..."

"I don't know either."

"Anything else you're hiding from me?" I asked and she shook her head. "It's what you want Dani, I'll support you." Even if I don't agree with it...

I didn't want her to go, I loved how close we lived to each other.

We took a drive to her new apartment and it was a good half hour away, I already know how this will end, she'll get too tired to come visit and just end up moving even further away.

But, I have to admit, the apartment was beautiful and it suits her. "What do you think?" She asked and I grinned. "I'm trying to find a reason to hate it, but I can't." I said and she hugged me.

I missed this, I forgot her smell and how perfect hugging her was.

"I still need help moving a few things, but I'll definitely be out by the end of next week." She said. "Wow, that's less time than I thought."

"Buck." She said and I sighed. "I have something to show you." She said and lead me out of her apartment and to the roof

The pointed to the Avengers Tower. "If you look really really close you can see it, and it's only a fifteen minute drive with no traffic and-"

"I know, I just like having you around."

"I'm still going to be around, all the time, you'll get sick of me." She laughed.

"I could never get sick of you."

"Plus we can call." She added and I scoffed
"I don't leave messages. If I wanted to talk to a machine, I'd talk to my VCR."

She giggled at me and I smiled. "Let's go to the Tower, it's getting a little late." She said and I nodded. She and I took her car.

I was trying to find something to say to her, but I was coming up dry. I decided to stare at her instead.

"Like what you see?" She teased and I smiled.

"Yes." I answered and she blushed. "You're so pretty." I mumbled and she turned and looked at me, "I'm taking you out for dinner."

"Okay." I didn't argue, I needed to make up for all the time we lost.

"Anywhere in mind?" She asked. "It's your birthday, where do you want to go?" I asked.

"I want you to take me somewhere special." She said and I smiled. "Okay then let's go back to the tower, I need to arrange a few things."

"Really?"

"Yes." I said and texted Steve

Go to the roof and set up a table with some candles and flowers, make it romantic its for Dani. Tell the chef to make her favorite meal we don't have a lot of time.

I texted.

Don't worry I'm on it, please be careful with her and don't "fondue"

Dani was still focused on the road so I examined all her features. "I broke up with Victoria, I don't even know why I started dating her, she is nothing compared to you."

"I'm not mad, you just wanted to move on."

"But I'm sorry."

"I forgive you."

The ride was pretty quiet, I just thought she deserved to know.

Once we arrived at the Tower, Steve winked at me, signaling it was all set up.

"Ready?" I asked and she nodded. I lead her to the elevator and right before the doors opened, I covered her eyes.

I walked her onto the roof. She was smiling.

When I moved my hand she put her hands to her mouth. "Bucky..." She gasped and turned around and hugged me quickly.

There were candles and flowers and everything she loved, Steve really pulled this off nicely.

"I love it."

She and I took our seats and she was looking over the city.

"It's so beautiful."

"Not as beautiful as you."

"Bucky, stop." She said and grinned. "I can't help it, it's your fault you're so beautiful."

"Barnes." She laughed, she was blushing like crazy.

"I just want to make up for all the time I lost with you, is that so wrong?"

"I just don't want you to do anything you'll regret." She said and took a sip of the wine.

"I know what I'm doing." I said.

"Just making sure." She admitted. We ate and once we were finished we were both looking over at the city.

"I'm going to miss this view." She said after a while. "Then don't leave." I said and she turned to me, her hair blowing in the wind.

"I'm not me anymore. I'm not a superhero, and Hydra just has to say those god damned words and I'm their puppet. It's for the best."

"Look, I know how you feel. Constantly frightened and scared, but you convinced me I'm more than some killer. You made me realize how I can use the bad to do some good. I thought I could help you realize you're more than what Hydra made you out to be."

She was speechless after that.

"But, it's so hard," her voice cracked, "every time I look in the mirror I see myself as a killer." She cried.

"Come here." I said and hugged her quick.
