Kyubey is absent thereafter. Perhaps it has sacrificed itself or disappeared. The last time anyone glimpsed it or saw any Incubator was when Kyōko kicked it out of the garden. She tells everyone that it is sealed inside something that appears like a spinning top.

    Madoka turns into Madokami, bringing both halves of her together. She quickly takes Mami and Sayaka away by the Law of Cycles, with Kyōko and Nagisa's help. Madokami returns alone.

    This time she doesn't reach out her hand to Homura, but embraces the demon. Homura lets out a scream and visibly tears up, attempting to resist yet again. However, she fails to notice that 14 of her familiars are being held by the last one, that missing link called love. All the familiars disappear together as Homura heaves a sigh of relief. She calms down, until only one last tear rolls down her face.

    Homura's wish to be Madoka's protector still remains unfulfilled. Madokami knows what is to come. A pink gem from Homura's earring returns to its original owner and rests on her neck.

    Madokami picks out the earring which only has a purplish diamond left. It appears to be purifying itself, surprising both of them. 

    Homura finally speaks.

"I couldn't protect you again. I'm sorry. It's no use, even going through all of this. I wish you can forgive me, if that's even an option. You can do whatever you like, but let me help you once at least. I won't mind going in peace after that."

    Madoka gives her an answer.

"I'll make you my bodyguard. Then you can protect me and your wish will work right?. The only problem is that you'll have to go through one more cycle. Are you fine with that?"

    Homura is ecstatic. She agrees and her time turner appears. It attaches to her left hand and she moves it, just like always.

    Time resets again. Homura goes into human form, her gem missing. She is stripped of her powers, albeit temporarily. Homura lands on earth, where it is the 16th. She is adopted by a couple with a younger son. It hits her that she now lives as a member of Madoka's family.
 
    She doesn't meet Madoka ever, but retains the memories of her, even as Tatsuya grows out of his 'imaginary' friend. A few words she chooses to heed this time, that she is never alone, that someone is out there for her. And thus she gets a chance at a normal life.

Epilogue

      Homura dies a human saving a total stranger in a road accident. She is all but 27 when the hospital declares her demise. For Homura, the surroundings change as her pain disappears. She is now somewhere in space floating among the stars. Homura  finds herself on the moon, which has only recovered a couple years back. She is dressed back in the school uniform, complete with twin braids. Madoka turns up, not as some powerful force, but as a Magical Girl. She comes to her side and shoots an arrow into the air. A portal is opened.

    Madokami appears from inside. She holds Madoka's hand and they turn into one.

"Let me give you back what is yours."

    Madokami/Madoka puts the Soul Gem earring on Homura. Before she can do or say anything, Homura also changes form.

    She now wears an embellished dress, with a black base. There are white ribbons at the front and the back, linked with thin red streaks, part of the design. It sparkles, much like the stars do. Madoka snaps Homura out of her trance.

"Let's go. I have some places to show you before we can start with duty."

    She winks at her and they go to Magical Girl Heaven together. One can only imagine what happens next as the curtains come to a close.
