Chapter 5
Jason's POV
Blair's alarm woke us up. After pretty slow morning routine we make our way outside. I don't know which is worse: the fact that I want to go to that fucking house and find nothing or the fact that I forgot about her death this morning.
I mean, she was always around, always teasing me about Blair or forcing us to get ready faster or do proper training. It was as if I couldn't even think about the fact that one day she could disappear from our lives.
She was there with us drinking and laughing. Sometimes clinging into Ace more than usual. She had plenty of time to talk to us, to maybe explain the situation to us that night.
It was the only way of doing it.
That's what she said in her last-and possibly first- letter. Chance's way of acting, her mind, her personality has always been a mystery for me. I wanted to figure her out solve this goddamned puzzle.
But maybe some mysteries were not made to be solved. They could only be admired from the side they could be examined, or used in many fields. But solving it would take all the magic away.
I sighed as we got out and sun shone brightly upon us.
Go away sun, we need clouds and winds and whole damned depressive weather crew.
I started the car as Blair opened her phone to check if there is any updates on the current situation. Most of channels have stationed one of their crews on the streets. Everyone was waiting on the updates of this situation.
On one of online forums few people said that it was impossible for her to die. Some even started coming up with conspiracy theories after Felix's body was bought to the hospital. Psychos denied the fact that she was dead. Normal people wished for her to be dead. While we, at this point, just wanted to honor her memory by getting her body away from the police.
"Jason, take a right here. We will go on foot from there. Roads are closed at that street." Blair looked through her GPS and also was trying to access the street cameras nearby.
"Most of the news van have driven after police cars. There still few guards around the house to stop reporters from getting inside." Blair informed me as I pulled on the hood of my jacket. Blair fixed her sunglasses.
We were on the back street we needed to cross over a house yard and then we would be at the back of the 'incident' house.
I glanced at both sides before jumping over the fence and soundlessly landing on the backyard of someone. Breaking in to the house was really similar to crossing the road.
Looking left, looking right and then you run to the other side of fence. Check your surroundings right left and duck behind the tree.
Blair's pace was slower than mine but it wasn't that important. Main things is to not attract attention. Especially now as we were closer to our target and slight buzzing and sounds of Cop's walkie talkies could be heard really clearly.
I didn't move any farther, not risking it when the cop was too close but Blair took her chance and run to the fence separating us from the house. She ducked behind it and waited, in case someone heard or seen her.
Buzzing sound was getting farther, we nodded at each other and made our way to cross the fence. We climbed over it and as I wanted to move farther fence made a creaking noise and I stopped dead on my track.
Blair was already at the other side, while I was only halfway through. She moved to the side making a space for me to jump I jumped and fence creaked again together with me landing face down to the grass.
"Hang on, I think I heard something in there." Someone from the front said and me and Blair exchanged the fearful looks. Blair quickly helped me to get up and crossed to the other yard because the fence was mostly destroyed and it was like stepping over slightly big rock.
I went to that yard too. Though the fence wasn't serving as a hideout place. It was too small. I scanned the territory and saw Blair ducking near the garden. As I wanted to make my way towards her cop's footsteps got closer. I lied down near the fence and hoped that he would be too lazy to check in here.
I couldn't see Blair from where I was standing or laying in this case. As Cop made his way towards where I was, I tried to remember some prayer to say but couldn't come up with any so I made one up.
Please, dear universal power, keep me hidden.
Footsteps came towards me, they were getting closer when suddenly sound of window breaking could be heard from distance. Cop stopped and turned around to search for the source of the sound.
He moved to the other side to get his colleague's attention and I sighed thankfully. I stood up and started to move towards the place were Blair was hiding.
"It is clear, get out." I whispered as I got closer to the small garden which she was using as a disguise. I looked at the back of it and found no one there.
"Blair?" I called out, louder this time. I looked towards the house and didn't see her there either. I was getting worried now.
I moved forward and was blinded by the sun. I put my hand over my eyes and saw Blair standing near the road with some rock on her hand.
So, she was the one who broke the window.
I moved closer to her. "Blair? Are you alright?" She was standing like she was paralyzed. She turned to look at me and she was both horrified and relieved at the same time. "Jason, do you see what I see?" She said softly.
I followed her gaze and saw a girl with one bandaged arm trying to throw the trash out but she wasn't really doing it because the trash can was closed and she couldn't open it with her broken arm.
Her movement, her shape, it all looked so familiar. Her short black hair moved to the front of her face covering it from my view. But I swear, I knew what was hidden before them without even looking. Though it couldn't have been true.
"UGH FOR FUCKS SAKE." She yelled and threw the trash to the ground.
With her now free hand she moved her hair back and looked up I saw her face. We made eye contact and I nearly fainted.
Standing in front of me was the girl for whom I came here. But I was planning to take her corpse away when I found her standing at the opposite side of the street.
