30. Final Stand
I had read over that heading over and over again, the jitteriness in my hands becoming uncontrollable. My heart had picked up the pace the more I read it, trying to understand and grasp every aspect of it. They made it sound so easy, but I had a feeling that was just the book talking.
The plan itself was quite simple, only if certain things were put into play. It read that the person you're bringing back has to be stuck somewhere; a place that is amongst the living and the dead. I had a gut feeling that that's where I was, so I had a chance. I could actually come back to life.
The book stated as well that the one who can see both worlds is the only one who could bring the person back, which was going to be hard for me. I'm sure the past Allison would have done this in a heartbeat, but now...her mind was elsewhere. Plus, there was too much going on now; the problems at hand needed to be resolved before we focused on me.
I pulled my eyes away from the paper finally as I take a step backwards, my mind spinning with all of the possibilities. I could go home again. I could talk to my friends and parents again. I could actually think about my future again.
But then I stopped. I was starting to become lost in my own world, and I knew that Allison and the rest of them needed me right now. I had a gut feeling that something was about to go down, especially after reading about the Kanima being able to evolve, so that's why I rethought about what to do now--not about coming back to life.
I wasn't sure where Allison and the rest of her family had went, but I knew that I needed to find them. My mind was torn between finding Scott and trying to tell him what was coming, or to find Allison, but before I could make my mind up, I had teleported somewhere that I didn't think of.
When I opened my eyes, I was standing in the middle of what looked to be a warehouse. My eyes wandered before I saw Scott, Derek, Isaac, and Chris standing over a body bag, one that contained Jackson. I didn't know what was going on or how I had gotten here, but I had a feeling that it might have been something to do with me wanting to find Scott, so I guess I found him this way.
"Where are they?" Scott says as he looks up at Derek, who was practically standing over Jackson.
Derek looks around. "Who?"
"Lydia and Peter," Scott says as Derek ignores him, bending down and unzipping the body bag. "Hold on a second, you said you knew how to save him-"
"We're past that," Derek says coldly as I take a step closer, my eyes widening at the sight of Jackson.
Scott's temper grows. "What about-"
"Think about it Scott!" Derek roars as he looks back up. "Gerard controls him! He's turned Jackson into his own personal guard dog. He set all of this in motion so that Jackson could get even bigger and more powerful."
Chris' eyes narrow. "No, he wouldn't do that. If Jackson's a dog, he's turning rabid, and my father wouldn't let a rabid dog live."
"Of course not. Anything that dangerous, that out of control...is better off dead."
I turn to see Gerard standing there, everyone else looking as well. He smiles slightly before I turn back to Derek, watching as he brings his claws down on Jackson, but soon Jackson's eyes are flashing open, shoving his own claws into Derek's chest. Blood spews from Derek's mouth before Jackson throws him across the room into the wall, more that likely knocking him out for a good while.
I gasp as Jackson hisses, looking back at Gerard. "Well done to last, Scott. Like the concerned friend you are, you brought Jackson to Derek to save him. You just didn't realize you were also bringing Derek to me."
Anger fills my chest before I hear the sound of an arrow, turning and seeing one fly past Scott's head and into Isaac's chest. Isaac gasps before falling to the ground, Scott popping back up as we both look back behind Gerard, seeing Allison's shadow holding a crossbow before she disappears.
"Allison?" Scott gasps before he's going to help Isaac, picking him up and taking him into another part of the warehouse. I watch Chris shoot at Jackson before I'm running off to find Allison. It doesn't take me long as gunshots ring in my ear, finding her standing behind one of the walls, the crossbow aimed towards the celling.
"Allison, you have to stop this," I say desperately, seeing the anger behind her eyes. "Think about what you're doing."
She turns and looks at me, the first time since her mother died that I saw a little light still inside her. "Corey, Derek is less than 20 feet away from me and I have the chance to put him down. For my mother...and Kate."
She starts to walk away, but I don't give up yet. "Allison! This is all apart of Gerard's plan! He's not here to get revenge from Derek-"
"But I am," she grits as she hides behind another wall. "I'm sorry, Corey. But I have to do this."
The words get caught in my throat as she steps out finally, throwing her crossbow to the side as she pulls out two knives from her boots. She spins them around before walking up behind Isaac, stabbing him in the back deeply as he fell to the ground, moaning in pain. Blood stains the floor as my jaw drops, not believing that she had just done that.
It wasn't like her.
"Allison!" Scott yells to her as she walks forwards, focused on Derek, who was lying on the ground with a major wound. I knew she was about to go finish him off, but that was before I see the Kanima walk up to her and grab her by the throat, knocking the knives from her hands.
My heart drops into my stomach as Allison whimpers. "Allison!"
"Not yet sweetheart," Gerard says as he finally walks out from the shadows, a mysterious look spread across his face.
Allison gasps as her hand goes to her throat. "What are you doing?"
"He's doing what he came here to do," Scott says, his chest heaving huge breaths. Gerard raises his eyebrows at this, looking as if he was surprised by what Scott knew. I wanted nothing more than to beat the living shit out of Gerard, but I knew that whatever he was about to say was worth hearing.
"Then you know?"
"What is he talking about?" Allison begs as Gerard stares at Scott, putting the pieces together.
"It was that night I threatened your mother, wasn't it?" Gerard says. "I knew I saw something in your eyes. You could smell it, couldn't you?"
Isaac looks up, no longer transformed. "He's dying."
My mind spins with this new information. "That's right, I am. I have been for awhile now. Unfortunately, science doesn't have the cure for cancer yet, but the supernatural does."
"This can't be happening," I say to myself quietly, glancing back over at Allison to see a tear fall down her face.
Chris glares at his father, watching Jackson tighten his grip on Allison. "You monster."
"Not yet," Gerard snaps back, a small smile on his face.
Allison sucks in a deep breath. "What are you doing!"
"You'd kill her too?" Chris says, holding himself back.
Gerard looks over at him. "When it comes to survival, I'd kill my own son."
I shake my head in disgust, not knowing what to do. I needed to do something, but I felt that whatever move I came up with would just end in someone dying, and the only person I wanted dead was Gerard. But all of the outcomes didn't end with him dying.
"Scott?" Gerard says as Scott grunts, knowing that his hands were tied. It was either give Gerard what he wanted, or lose Allison. There wasn't much choice there.
Scott walks slowly over to Derek before lifting him off of the ground, taking him over to Gerard. "Scott-don't. He's just going to kill me afterwards. He'll be an alpha."
"That's true," Gerard says, smiling. "But I think he already knows that, don't you, Scott? He knows that deciding between you and the one he cares about isn't that hard of a decision. You're the piece that doesn't fit, Derek."
My eyes widen as Scott flips Derek's head back, his canines somehow reflecting whatever small amount of light there was. I feel frozen in place as I watch Gerard slip his coat off, extending his arm as he walked over to Derek. I shake my head as he lowers his arm, Derek biting him as his eyes drained from their deep red.
Gerard yells out in pain, but soon it sounds like triumph. He raises his arm into the air as a wide smile spreads across his face, knowing that he had won. My eyes narrowed however when I saw blood start to drip down from the bite mark, it even turning black. I've never been bitten before, but I had a pretty good feeling that that wasn't supposed to happen.
"What is this," Gerard roars as he looks down at his arm. "What did you do!"
Scott smiles slightly as he looks down at Derek. "Everyone said that Gerard always had a plan. I had a plan too."
Gerard's face goes pale as he pulls something out, it being his little pill container. A small little smile forms on my face when I see Gerard completely panic, staring at the pills in his hand. He crushes them with one swift motion as his face turns into pure anger.
"Mountain ash!" He roars before he falls to his knees, blood seeping from his nose and ears. My nose scrunches up slightly at how gross it really was, but that wasn't even the worst part. Suddenly, he vomits up black blood that goes everywhere, causing everyone to practically take five steps backwards.
He falls on his side then, and that's when I knew we had won. Gerard was dead, and we had actually won. Scott's brilliant plan had actually worked.
All of a sudden however, Gerard looked up the angriest face I've ever seen plastered onto his face. "Kill them all!"
I panic as I remember Jackson having his claws to Allison's throat, so I turn and run at him quickly, thinking about my trigger as I slammed into him. He falls down with me, confused about what just happened, but Allison just looked down at me with relief on her face. She quickly grabs her knives before backing up, ready to defend herself if needed to.
I quickly stand as well in case she needed help, but soon something was slamming through the wall of the warehouse, along with slamming into Jackson himself. A wide grin shows on my face when I see it's the Jeep, Stiles sitting in the drivers seat with Lydia, who looked more calm about this than Stiles did.
"Did I get him?" Stiles says, his face scrunched up. Jackson is leaping onto the Jeep just then causing Stiles to flail his arms around as if he was personally being attacked. Lydia gets out of the car quickly before she holds something out, the light reflecting off of it for me to see that it's a key.
Jackson raises his claws, prepared to end Lydia, but soon he stops as he stares at the key. I lick my lips slowly as I cock my head to the side, seeing the wheels spinning behind his eyes. That key meant something, and I had a feeling it was bringing him back.
And I was right.
Jackson slowly turns back into himself as he takes the key, staring at Lydia with soft eyes. Tears roll down her face as Jackson nods his head, stepping backwards and lifting his arms in the air. He was offering himself; he was prepared to die.
Derek practically leaps off of the ground as he runs towards Jackson, another person doing so as well. I'm not sure who it is, but Derek and him both press their claws into him and lift him off of the ground. Jackson spits up blood as he groans, obviously feeling pain. When Derek and the other guy drop him again, I felt utterly sorry that Lydia had to watch all of that.
Lydia runs forwards then, catching Jackson before he fell to the ground. She sobs as she wraps her arms around him, knowing that this was the last chance she could speak to him again.
"Do you-" Jackson mutters out, almost sounding like a mumble. "Do you-"
"I do," Lydia says, her face wrinkling up as she sobbed. "I do still love you."
If I wouldn't have known better, it looked like the faintest little smile appeared on Jackson's lips, but I wasn't sure. It didn't matter however; he then slowly closed his eyes as his head fell onto Lydia's shoulder, his heart finally stopping. The key falls with a clatter, the only sound I tried to focus on other than the sound of Lydia's crying.
I feel Allison walk up beside me then, her bottom lip curled from crying. So much had happened in the past couple of minutes, and I hated seeing her like this. Without thinking, I reach out and grab her hand, causing her to look at me as I nodded my head. She leans her head on my shoulder as mascara ran down her face, the two of us watching Lydia mourn over her now dead boyfriend.
"I'm sorry," Allison whispers to me, but I didn't say anything in return. It wasn't because I didn't want to, but it was because Jackson was moving; he was actually standing.
Everyone watches in awe as he rises, his eyes burning a bright blue. I knew then that he was now a wolf, and I could tell that everyone else knew it too. He roars before Lydia runs into his arms, sobs raking her body. But this time, they were tears of joy.
We did it.
