25. Crumbling
"Sure looks like a party," I say as I stand in front of Lydia's house, which was much larger than Allison's. Honestly, it looked like a freaking mansion compared to my home and hers. Guess that's what you get when you have rich parents.
Allison nods her head, seeming dazed about something. "Yeah, I have a feeling that this party isn't going to go so well."
My eyes flick from the house to her, seeing her jaw clenched. "Allison, you don't have to be here."
"It's for Lydia," Allison says, nodding her head. "I'm here for Lydia."
I glance back at the house in front of us. "That's a good point, but what if Matt comes-"
"Then I guess I'll just have to worry about you, won't I?" she says playfully, looking over at me as if she knew I had something up my sleeve.
I hold my arms out. "What? The guy is stalking you. Of course I'm going to strangle him if he comes near you again."
"Just don't do something you'll regret," Allison says as she starts to walk up the house, her heals clicking on the pavement.
I laugh at her. "I'm dead. Do you really think that I care?"
"Well you sure seemed to care about that kiss," she says, something behind her voice that I could't quite make out.
I furrow my eyebrows. "Of course I care. He's a creep-"
"That was before we found out about the pictures," she says as she turns to me fully, her eyes hovering on my face, trying to read me.
I wasn't sure what to say, since of course I wasn't going to tell her how jealous I actually was. I'm sure she could tell by my face already, so why state the obvious? Instead I looked down at her dress before locking eyes with her once again.
"Look, this is supposed to be a party. Just let yourself go and have a good time, okay?" I say as Allison smiles slightly. "You've gone through too much lately and you deserve this. Don't worry about me or Matt, I'll make sure he stays away from you, and I promise I won't kill him...maybe."
Allison just laughs at me, causing me to go into a world of my own. Time felt frozen as I saw her standing there in that beautiful red dress, laughing again for what seemed to be months since I've seen her laugh like that last. Every moment like this only made me fall more in love with Allison Argent, and I was drowning.
"Yeah, party!" a couple of kids shout as they run up to Lydia's house, causing the two of us to jump at the random loud noise.
Allison laughs as I watch them run inside. "I guess some people might show up tonight, after all."
We both proceed to walk up the house again as Allison raises her eyebrows. "Prepare yourself, Corey. You are about to witness a party thrown by no one other than Lydia Martin, the queen of parties."
"I've been to plenty of parties," I say as a couple of other kids run past us. "I have yet to find someone who can outdo the ones I've been to."
Allison smiles. "Well, I think after tonight your searching will be over."
The corners of my lips stretch wide as Allison stands in front of the door, only for it to be thrown open. Lydia is standing there with a huge grin on her face, wearing a black and white dress while holding a tray of punch.
"You're here!" Lydia squeals as she pulls her friend inside, hugging her. "You have got to try the punch!"
Allison wishes her a happy birthday as the two walk off, Lydia handing Allison a punch before she takes a drink. I sigh as I look around, not seeing anyone else. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do while Allison partied, but that was before I looked over and saw Scott and Stiles talking amongst themselves. Call me a stalker, but I wanted to listen in and see if anything new was going on with Jackson.
"...have you seen Jackson anywhere?" Stiles asks as the two of them walk into another room.
I catch up behind them as Scott shakes his head. "No, have you seen Allison?"
"No, but we should probably tell her what we found," Stiles says as I raise my eyebrows, curious as to what that was all about.
Scott looks confused. "I'm not really sure what we even found."
Typical Scott. "We figured out it has something to do with water; you know, that all of the murders happened to have been on the same swim team...the way the kanima acted around the pool."
"So whoever controls the kanima really hates the swim team?" Scott says as we step outside, looking down and seeing a pool.
"Specifically the 2006 swim team," Stiles says while motioning his hands. "So it could be another teacher...maybe another student back then."
I look up then to see Allison walk up to Scott and Stiles, a blank expression on her face. That was when I was reminded of that fight her and Scott had, which still aggravated me when I thought about it. She had every right to be mad.
"Jackson's not here," Allison says as she messed around with the bracelet on her wrist.
Stiles places his hands on his hips. "Yeah, no one is here."
"Maybe it's just early," Scott says as Stiles scoffs.
"Or maybe no body is coming because Lydia has turned into the town nut job," he says as the other two nod slightly.
Allison looks over at Lydia, who was standing across the pool, looking as if she was wondering where everyone was. "Well we have to do something, we've practically ignored her for the past two weeks."
"She's completely ignored Stiles the past 10 years," Scott says as Stiles bites his lip, taking a little offense to that.
"I like to think of it as not being on her radar," he says before looking back over at her, practically drooling.
Scott looks back at Allison. "We don't owe her a party."
I narrow my eyes as Allison looks a little offended. "What about the chance to get her back to normal?"
"Normal?"
"She wouldn't be the town nut job if it wasn't for us," Allison says, having a valid point. She had told me what had actually happened to Lydia that night.
Scott sighs, finally feeling bad. "I guess I could use my co-captain status to get the team here."
"Yeah, I also know some people that could get this party started," Stiles says as we all turn to him, surprised to hear him say that. "Like really going."
"Who?" Scott and Allison say at the same time.
Stiles nods. "I met them the other night. Let's just say they know how to party."
---------
"I can't believe Stiles got them here," I say as I look across the pool, seeing a couple of cross dressers. "He was right, they're the life of the party."
"They're pretty nice," Allison says while looking with me. "I'm glad that Stiles called them here. Lydia needed this."
I nod my head, changing the subject on accident. "So, did Scott ever apologize for..."
"No," Allison says, shaking her head. "It's not a big deal, though. I couldn't care less if he apologized to me. It was partially my fault anyways."
"He still shouldn't have yelled at you like that," I say, remembering everything vividly. "No one should ever yell at you like that."
Allison takes another drink of her punch before she looks back towards the door, her eyes widening. I furrow my eyebrows before I turn to look myself, seeing Jackson and Matt walk in. Talk about double trouble.
"I can't believe he actually came here," I say as I stare at Matt, only seeing red.
Allison gulps. "Yeah, I wonder why Jackson would want to come here anyways. I don't think there'd be anyone here he'd want to kill."
I look back at her. "I'll keep an eye on him."
Allison nods her head before her eyes fall away from mine, causing me to turn once again and see Matt walk up to her. Allison takes a step back as I glare at him, wondering what in the hell he wanted with Allison.
"Can we talk?" he says, looking as if he was about to explode. "Alone?"
Allison thinks for a moment before she nods her head stiffly. "You get two minutes."
Matt nods before Allison walks around him, heading towards the stairs inside. I follow close behind her as I keep my eyes on Matt, making sure he didn't do something while her back was turned. I glance back at Allison. "Why are you even giving him a chance to explain?"
"I enjoy hearing excuses," Allison whispers to me before she turns and walks into a room, Matt right behind her. He grabs the door to shut it before Allison gives him a stern look, making him let go of the door and leave it wide open.
Matt stares at his hands as I cross my arms, curious to see how he'll play this one off. "So, um, okay, I know I took some pictures of you, but is it really that bad that I think you're beautiful...that you should be the subject of a perfect photograph."
I take a step forward. "I'm going to kill him-"
"Um, Matt," Allison says as she steps to the side slightly, making sure to block me off from him. "I'm not even sure how you took some of those pictures."
Matt shrugs. "I have a good lens, I mean come on Allison. Photographers call them candidates," Matt says a little too cocky for my taste, causing my blood to boil.
Allison fake laughs. "Huh, well police call it stalking."
Matt's face goes straight as he glares at Allison, turning cold. "Stalking...so I'm a stalker now? You think my bedroom walls are covered in pictures of you; you think I'm the kind of guy who would say something like 'if I can't have you, no one can?'. Well, you know what, get over yourself. There's another pretty girl walking into the room every five minutes."
Allison stares at him coldly as I look at her, grinding my teeth. "Can I please beat him up now?"
"Well all you have to do is wait another three minutes," Allison says before walking around him, not listening to his pleas of forgiveness. She glances back at me before nodding her head, causing me to pop my knuckles.
Matt reaches out for Allison's arm as I focus on my trigger, feeling my hand grip his arm tightly. He gasps, wondering what was happening before I twist his arm behind his back, pressing him firmly against the floor. His eyes wander the room nervously as he pleas for Allison to come back, but she just smiles at me and shuts the door.
A small smirk forms on my face before I lift him back up, grabbing him and pushing him so that his head was sticking out of the open window. His eyes budge as he stares at the ground below, unsure as to what was happening. I just laugh as he tries to throw punches, but he just hits air, of course.
"Find another damn candidate," I mumble before I finish the deed, pushing him completely out of the window. I watch as he tumbles across the roof before rolling off the side of the house, mumbling something as soon as he hits the ground. I didn't care if he was hurt however; why should I?
I shut the window before turning around and walking back to the door, feeling better that he at least got something in return for what he did to Allison. No way was I done with him yet, but I'll give him a little break before he gets his final beating.
I walk through the door as I scan the people's faces for Allison, not finding her anywhere. "Allison?" I call, but I don't hear her reply. She must have went back downstairs to keep an eye on Jackson.
I quickly make my way downstairs to see her not down there either, it making me grow worried. At first I worried that Jackson hurt her, but he was standing over there across the pool, drinking some more of that punch. In fact, everyone at the party seemed as if they got a hit of the crazies. Some were jumping into the pool and others were actually making out with a few of the potted plants. What the hell?
I was about to go search for Allison again before I got a weird feeling; almost as if something was terribly wrong. My gut was telling me that something happened to Allison, but I didn't know what. I started to grow more panicked before I walked past Lydia, hearing her talking to someone. I don't see that it's Matt before I turn and look.
"-I'm pretty sure she had to go to the hospital or something," Lydia says, talking in that peppy voice she always does. "Why do you need to talk to her?"
"Something happened," Matt says, a scowl on his face. I could tell that there were a couple of scratches on his face from where I had thrown him off of the roof. "You wouldn't understand."
He stomps off before I realize that they were talking about Allison. Why would she be at the hospital though? I didn't have time to ask myself any more questions before I'm teleporting myself out of Lydia's house, going to the hospital. I only knew where it was at because a little while after I had died, I had went to the morgue to search for Jade. Of course, I had no luck, but now was the time when I was glad that I knew where it was.
When I open my eyes again, I'm standing in the middle of the hall, scanning the doctors and nurses walking by. It didn't take me long to find Allison; only because I could hear her sobs and screams. I furrow my eyebrows at this, confused and feeling broken to hear her so upset. What happened?
I follow the sound before I turn the corner, seeing her standing there sobbing into her father's shoulder. She beats on his chest as she cries, looking up every now again at the blue covered sheet in another room. "What happened? What happened!"
My jaw falls open as I take a step forwards, feeling a burning feeling forming in my throat and behind my eyes. I hated to see Allison like this, especially since tonight was the night when she was supposed to let herself go. I didn't even know the reason why she was crying, but I didn't need to know in order to be devastated by her appearance.
I can't do anything but stand there and watch her before she finally looks up, making eye contact with me. A tear falls from my eye when I see her face, her mascara more than smeared and her eyes puffy and red. She takes a step away from her father before she comes down the hall towards me, looking as if she had to ask me a million questions. I tried to mutter out something--anything, but the words were caught in my throat. I'm frozen as she walks past me and into the restroom, continuing to hear her sobs.
I could tell that she was only crying in there, but I glanced down the hall back at her father to see him staring at the sheet, and that was when it clicked for me. Allison's mother must have died.
My heart breaks once again before I decide to talk to Allison, only to see if she wanted her space. When people die, they either need someone to talk to, or they push everyone away. I wasn't sure how Allison was going to be, so I needed to see for myself.
I step into the restroom, seeing her bent over the sink, crying. She shakes her head before she looks up in the mirror, seeing me standing in there with her. She whips around then quickly, her bloodshot eyes meeting my own. There was something behind them that I couldn't explain...it tore me up inside.
"C-Can you see her?" Allison says calmly at first. I don't understand what she means, but then she screams it again at me. "Can you see her!"
I take a step back, finally realizing that she was talking about her mother. I shake my head. "I-No, Allison."
Her face wrinkles up again, another wave of sobs wracking her body. Her eyes fall to the floor then, her legs seeming to become wobbly. I didn't know what to do other than to wrap my arms around her, pulling her in close as she cried on my shoulder. Another tear falls from my eye as she wraps her arms around me, breaking me more and more with every sob that escaped her throat.
"I didn't get to see her," Allison mutters into my shoulder. "I didn't get to say goodbye."
---------
Well this chapter has officially broken me.
