23. Stressed Out

"What are you getting ready for?" I ask as I walk into Allison's room, seeing her applying mascara.

She looks up suddenly. "I thought you knew?"

"Knew what?" I ask again, this time sounding much more interested than the last.

Allison takes a deep breath as she places her mascara back down on the desk, turning in her chair so that she faced me. Her fingers twiddle with one another before she looks up, her brown eyes scanning my face, almost as if she was trying to read my thoughts.

"I'm going to a rave with Matt tonight," she says slowly, raising her eyebrows slightly.

The words gets caught in my throat as my jaw falls. "O-Oh."

Allison stands then, placing her hand on her forehead. "I'm not even sure why I agreed to go, I was just trying to hurry up so he'd leave me alone-"

"It's great Allison," I say as a fake smile spreads across my face. "You deserve to have a little fun."

She shakes her head. "Not when all of this is going on. Tonight isn't even going to be fun-"

"What? Why?" I ask her as I take a step forwards.

She looks back up at me. "My father knows about Jackson and he knows that he's going to be there tonight. They're planning on catching him..."

"Catching him?" I say. "Are you sure that they used the word 'catching'?"

Allison's face goes pale. "Yeah, this night is going to be awful."

"Allison!" I hear someone call, causing both of our heads to turn towards the door. Allison quickly finishes up her make-up before she's walking out of her room and heading downstairs, towards where her father had called her.

I trail along behind her, curious to see what he wanted, following her to the basement. My eyes widen as I look around the large room, seeing nothing but guns galore. There was a huge cabinet on one side of the room, a huge table in the center, along with other shelves and locked cases more than likely filled with objects of torture.

I jump slightly when I hear a gun load, causing me to turn and see Mr. Argent standing there sticking a gun into his holster. There were a lot of other men down here as well; many I didn't know, but I did know one of them: Gerard.

"Alright, the party is inside of a warehouse just outside the industrial sector," Mr. Argent shouts to everyone in the room. "Allison has informed me that Jackson will be there tonight, picking his next target out of the crowd. We're still a little clueless about just how strong he is, so we need to be extremely cautious. When Allison has his location and is at an optimum point where we can take him down, she'll signal me. Optimum meaning as far away from the crowd as possible. There will be no collateral damage tonight."

Allison nods her head as her father stares at her, a hard look in his eyes. Allison seems stern and willing before Mr. Argent shoos her out of the room, but I decided to stay down here and see what else this pep talk was going to be about.

"As willing as she is, your little protégé there seems to be under the impression that we're planning a trap," Gerard says coldly as he throws some pills into his mouth.

Mr. Argent sticks another gun into his holster. "She doesn't need to know anymore than that."

"The rest of us then, let's be perfectly clear," Gerard says as he picks up a knife. "You don't trap a creature this dangerous; you kill it."

---------

"You know, I used to be a party person," I say as I step into the rave, squinting my eyes at the bright flashing lights. "But raves were never really my thing."

Allison glances around at the huge party, looking at bodies dancing and grinding on one another. Everyone had some type of glow stick or were wearing white, which caused the black light to make it glow. It literally looked like a rainbow threw up in here, but I've got to admit, it did look like a good time.

"Do you see Matt anywhere?" Allison asks over the music, which was pounding against my ear drums.

I stand on my tip toes as I scan the crowd, not seeing the creeper anywhere. "Nope. Maybe he didn't show and we can just go home."

Allison turns to me as gives me a pathetic look. "Corey, no matter what, I have to stay to make sure this plan doesn't turn to hell. I might not always agree with my father, but I have to at least make sure he stays safe."

I nod my head. "I understand what you mean, which is why you should try and convince them to call it off. You heard what they said; they're going to kill him-"

"They wouldn't abandon this plan even if the world was ending," she says, continuing to glance around. "In their eyes, they only see a murderer who can't stop killing people, not a teenage boy who doesn't have control over his own body. They'll stop at nothing to protect everyone."

My stomach knots at this, Allison putting everything that made me stressed out into words. She was right; this party was going to suck. "What do you want me to do?"

"Make sure everything goes okay," she says, as she turns to me, nodding her head slightly. "If even the slightest thing goes wrong, you come back to me and tell me. Got it?"

I shake my head yes. "I promise, only if you promise me something as well."

She furrows her eyebrows, not used to hearing me say stuff like this. "What?"

"If Matt does anything weird at all, and I mean anything," I say as I look up, picking out his face in the crowd finally. "You get the hell out of here. Don't worry about anything else; just make sure you get away from him. Something is off about him and I'm not sure what. I hate to leave you here with him."

Allison smiles faintly. "I can protect myself."

"I know you can," I agree with her, my eyes flicking back down to her brown ones. "Just promise me that if anything goes wrong, you'll run the other way."

She pauses for a moment as she stares at me, a smile still spread across her face. "I promise."

"Allison?" Matt says as he finally makes his way through the crowd, reaching her. He smiles as Allison turns around, greeting him and thanking him for buying her the ticket to this party. I was about to get out of here and go find her father, since no way in hell did I want to watch this "date", but before I teleport away, I catch a glimpse of Scott out of the corner of my eye.

"Scott?" I say as I look over at him, confused as to why he was here. He was watching Allison with close eyes, almost as if he was making sure she didn't do anything tonight that she would regret later. Allison must have noticed him as well, because she soon tells Matt to give her a minute before she's walking towards him, a confused look on her face.

"What are you doing here?" Scott asks, shaking his head.

Allison furrows her eyebrows. "What do you mean? I'm at a party."

"Not here," Scott says, more so talking to himself. "You don't get it; we have a plan."

Allison's eyebrows raise as I cross my arms. "You have a plan? Okay, um, my father and Gerard are coming here-"

"What did you tell them?" Scott says, his voice starting to rise. I bite my tongue as I stare at him, ready to step in if I needed to.

Allison can't get the words out of her mouth. "I-I t-told the-them-"

"Allison!" Scott yells at her, his expression showing anger.

Allison's eyes are teary. "I had to tell them, Scott."

"Oh my God," Scott says as something clicks behind his eyes. "They know it's Jackson."

"People are dying, Scott. What am I supposed to do?" Allison says, her voice now raising as well.

Scott looks back at her. "You're supposed to trust me!"

"I trust you!" Allison yells back at him. "You're one of my best friends, of course I trust you!"

Scott looks at the ground, thinking to himself. "We had a plan..."

"So do they."

"This isn't going to work," Scott says, sounding pissed off. It made me narrow my eyes.

Allison shakes her head. "What do you want me to do? I can fix it-please Scott, just tell me, I can fix it."

"Stay out of the way," Scott says coldly as he walks away from Allison, shaking his head as he stared at the floor.

Allison shakes her head. "Scott!"

"Just stay out of the way!"

Allison stands there and watches Scott walk out of the building as I notice her eyes welling with tears; I didn't blame her. She's been trying to satisfy both her friends and family this whole time, and when she has one slip up, Scott is there to yell at her.

I reach out to her. "Allison-"

"I'm fine," she grits as she pulls her arm away. My heart aches as she begins to walk away from me. "Just go find my father."

--------

I felt alone again as I teleport myself outside, standing where Allison and I had entered a few minutes ago. There wasn't anyone outside other than myself; only hearing the sound of the music coming from inside. I glance around the outside of the building before I conclude that Mr. Argent wasn't here.

I start to make my way around the building to find him before I hear almost the sound of sand falling; like it was coming from a funnel. I glance around the corner before I see Stiles there, carrying a garbage bag that was leaking out a black powder. He continues to walk around the outside of the building, surrounding it with the mysterious black powder.

"What are you doing Stiles..." I say to myself as I walk in front of him, watching him stop in front of his Jeep. He empties the last of the powder into his hands as he looks up, noticing that the other end of the barrier was at least 50 feet away from him. He didn't have enough to finish it off.

"Oh hell," he says to himself as he shake his head. "This can't be happening right now."

I raise my eyebrow, still confused as to what he was doing. I watch as he pulls out his phone and dials a number before pressing it to his ear, tapping his foot as he waited for an answer. Unluckily for him, there wasn't one.

"Scott, you better answer you're damn phone right now," he says, glancing around the alley. "I've got at least 50 feet left and I'm out of mountain ash, not to mention that I'm standing here like a freaking idiot holding magic fairy dust. I heard wolves and a gun fight and I'm just standing here, wasting time. Call me back!"

Stiles shoves his phone back into his pocket before he closes his eyes, talking to himself. "You've got to believe, Stiles. Do what Deaton said. Imagination can go a long way."

What in the world...

I take a step back as I watch him walk towards the other end of the barrier, dropping what remained of the ash from his hand. For a moment I knew that he wouldn't make it all of the way across, but he soon proved me wrong. I stare in amazement as he opens his eyes again, looking down to see that the barrier was sealed.

"Woohoo!" he whoops as he fist bumps the air, jumping around as if he had just won the lottery. I roll my eyes as he jumps on a random car, causing the alarm to go off. What an idiot.

I finally decided to leave Stiles and to go find Mr. Argent like Allison had told me. I go to step over the ash barrier and head down the alley when some type of force pushes me backwards; almost as if I had just walked straight into glass.

I stare at the barrier. "What the hell?"

My hand lifts slowly from my side as I press it against the barrier, seeing a bright blue light emitting from it. I only see it for a moment before my hand goes flying back, indicating that I wasn't getting out anytime soon.

And with my luck, that's when the gun shots and shouting started happening.

--------

Next chapter should be more eventful, I promise. Things are going to start heating up here, and I'm so excited about it. It's literally all I can think about in class anymore. I have the ending mapped out pretty well, so hopefully it plays out right.

But can we talk about how rude Scott was to Allison in this episode. I didn't really realize it as much until I re-watched the episode right now. I understand that he was frustrated, but seriously? She's been defending her friends for so long and the one time she helps her family, she gets scolded, smh.

And before you ask: yes, the title is referring to Twenty One Pilots. <3
