20. Night Out

"Allison!" I scream as the kanima jumps onto Scott, knocking him to the ground. Scott's eyes flash golden before his claws are lunging towards Jackson, making contact across his scaly chest. Blood splatters up onto the trees beside them as we all stare in shock, not really sure what to do.

Allison backs away and stares wide eyed as I stand in front of her, acting as if I would be able to protect her. I wanted nothing more than to be alive right now; only so I could actually do something to help protect her. I hated not being able to do anything and it made me feel worthless. I know I've said that a million times, but moments like these are when I really did feel like crap.

The kanima hisses as Scott pushes it off of him, causing Jackson to go flying back into one of the trees. Scott jumps back onto his feet, now fully transformed. His eyes burn yellow as he looks over at Stiles and Allison, his canines poking out slightly.

"Get out of here!" he says, only wanting to help protect his friends.

Allison shakes her head. "I'm not leaving-"

"Yes you are," I say as I grab her hand, pulling her towards the van that Jackson had escaped from moments ago. She grunts as I pull her along, clearly angry that I was pulling her away from a fight and from her friend. However, I knew Scott could protect himself, and he wanted Allison away from the scene as much as I did. Another thing we had in common.

"Let me go, Corey!" Allison says as she looks over her shoulder, watching as the Kanima hissed at Scott. "I have to help!"

"Scott can protect himself," I say to her, trying to keep her calm. "Trust me, he'll be fine."

Allison shakes her head. "But what if-"

Her voice cuts off as her hand disappears from my own, causing my face to go white. My head whips around to see what had happened to her, finding what I had feared to see. Jackson had now pinned Allison to the ground, his claws hovering just a few inches above her throat.

"Don't you dare touch her!" Scott screams as he runs over, but stops in his place as soon as he sees the claws against her throat. Allison stares up at Jackson wide eyed, her face white as can be. I've never seen her look so terrified, other than when Derek had almost turned her back at the ice skating rink.

My hands bawl into fists as I focus on my trigger, throwing my hands towards Jackson, but for some reason not making contact. My hands go flying right on through, causing me to grow even more angrier at myself. I really was worthless.

A sob escapes Allison's throat as Jackson's head makes a snake-like motion, looking as if he was debating whether or not to kill her. My chest heaves huge breaths as I scream at myself, knowing that I had to do this. I had to help, or else I could lose her. I could lose Allison.

A huge weight is lifted off of my shoulders as Jackson backs away from Allison slowly, hissing at all of us before darting off into the woods, disappearing. I run to Allison's side as she breathes again, not really sure how to respond to that situation. She appeared to be a little shaky, but she somehow managed to act like everything was okay.

"I'm fine," she says as I help her sit up, Scott now at her side as well. Stiles was there too, but he wasn't kneeling. "We need to go find him, before he kills someone."

"He about killed you!" Stiles yells, flailing his arms. "This is why we just need to kill him. It's the only option-"

"No Stiles!" Scott yells once again. At this point, I thought that killing Jackson was a good option. If he was going to threaten Allison's life, then we needed to end his.

Allison sits up. "We aren't killing him, alright? Can we...can we just focus on finding him, please?"

Stiles and Scott both are quiet as they nod their heads, helping Allison on her feet. She glances over at me and nods her head, silently thanking me for trying my best to help, even though I failed yet again. I needed to learn how to get a better grip on this. I need to figure out how to turn it on and off.

"We need to tell your dad," Scott says to Stiles, Allison staring down at her feet.

Stiles shakes his head. "We can't tell him-"

"People are dying Stiles!" Scott yells, clearly frustrated. "He needs to know what's happening."

"So does my father," Allison mumbles to herself, still a little fazed about what just happened. "We can't do this alone, you guys. We need help."

I'm quiet as they both stare at Stiles, waiting for his approval. Finally he kicks at the leaves under his feet, clearly not wanting to give an answer. "He's not going to believe me."

"I'll go with you," Scott says as his eyes flash gold. "I can show him."

Stiles takes a deep breath. "Are you guys sure this is the best option?"

"It's the only move we have left," Allison says, knowing that they were losing. People were dying and Jackson more than likely was out killing someone right now. And neither them or myself could do anything about it without getting hurt.

Stiles nods his head. "Well, if we're going to be telling them the whole truth, then we need to be honest with each other too."

They all scan one another before Scott and Stiles both land on Allison, knowing that she had something hidden. She gets choked up as she tries to come up with a logical explanation, but she didn't have one. "I swear I'll tell you guys soon, okay? Right now just isn't the best time."

"What do you mean the best time?" Scott says. "When do we ever even have time?"

Allison presses her hands to her head, clearly starting to get a headache. "Please just-trust me, okay? It's nothing bad, I swear. I just can't think straight right now and I can't deal with this."

Scott is finally quiet as he stares at Allison with concerned eyes, knowing that she was starting to break down slowly. I've noticed this from her as well, and it made me feel even worse. To see her have to deal with this kind of stuff everyday blew my mind, and it amazes me that she's kept it together for this long. She was going to lose it soon, and I'll be here to help her through it.

I'll always be here.

"What are you doing in here, Lydia?" Allison says as she walks into her room, finding the strawberry blonde sitting on her bed as if she was waiting for her.

Lydia raises her eyebrows. "I needed to talk to you."

"Well, I'm sorry, but can it wait until morning?" Allison says groggy as she places her bag on the floor beside her chair, rubbing her eyes slightly.

Lydia stands up as she walks over to Allison's computer. "No actually, it can't. You asked me to help you translate this, and I thought I'd help you out."

"What did you get translated?" Allison asks as she walks over behind Lydia, who was now sitting in the computer chair. I raise my eyebrows as I walk over to them as well, my eyes skimming over the brightly lit computer screen. There were a bunch of archaic latin words and a picture of a wolf on the screen, but I wasn't sure what any of it meant.

Lydia points towards one of the highlighted words. "This word right here--it means master."

"Master?" Allison says as her eyebrows furrow. "Are you sure?"

Lydia nods, confident. "Yeah. I'm positive."

"Mrs. Morrell said that it meant friend," Allison says as Lydia stands from the chair, raising her eyebrows higher.

"Well, she's wrong. It clearly says that the Kanima seeks a master," the strawberry blonde remarks as she slips on her black leather boots, getting ready to walk out of the door. "Is that important or something?"

Allison breathes as she glances up at me, the gears spinning behind her eyes. "Yeah, actually. Thank you."

Lydia gives Allison a faint wave before walking out of the door. "Glad to help."

After she was finally gone, Allison looks up at me with wide eyes, looking as if she finally had put the pieces together. "Someone isn't protecting Jackson; someone is controlling him."

I nod my head. "That makes sense actually."

"It explains why he only goes after certain people," Allison says as she begins to pace back and forth. "It explains why it didn't kill me today, kill Stiles in the mechanics shop, and kill-"

I place my hands on Allison's shoulders. "It's good that we've figured that part out, but you need some rest, alright? Today was a long day."

Allison yawns slightly. "Yeah, you're right. And I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be even worse."

"More than likely," I remark. "So get some sleep."

Allison starts to walk towards her bed, her feet shuffling as she walked. I stayed in place however, causing her to look back at me. "What are you doing?"

As much as I wanted to lie in bed with her, I needed to figure out some other things first. "I just gotta run a few errands. Don't worry, I'll be fine."

"Errands?" Allison says while placing her hand on her hip. "Ever since we met you've followed me around everywhere; and you're just now staring to go off on your own? What's really going on?"

I sigh. "I'm just going to figure out a few things about me and...wherever the hell I am."

"Be careful," she says softly. "Don't push your limits."

I nod my head towards her. "I'll be fine. Just get some sleep."

Allison's mouth stretches into a yawn again as she turns around to go to bed, giving me my cue. I turn and walk out of Allison's room as I make my way down the hall, knowing what I was going to do tonight. There were three things on my list, one of those being to work on my trigger. The other two consisting of looking for Jade and figuring out what else I can do here. If I can find a way to touch objects in the real world, I've got to have some other powers too, right?

After I make my way outside, I quickly glance up into Allison's window to see the light shut off, which was a good sign. The wind brushes against my skin as I walk out to the street, seeing only a couple of street lamps that were flicking above the deserted street. I stand there for a moment as I wait for a car to come along, one finally coming after ten minutes of waiting.

I step out into the middle of the street as I stare at the oncoming car, trying my best to focus on my trigger. The only way for me to try my best at this was if it was quick thinking; which is when I really needed to use my trigger. An oncoming car was one way to help me think fast, and I didn't really care if I got hit by it in the process. It's not like it would hurt.

I close my eyes as I think hard, listening to the rubber against the road as the car sped towards me. My heart starts to race in my chest, my nerves out of control. Instinct told me to jump out of the way, but I knew I couldn't. I needed to figure this out.

After a couple of moments of waiting, I finally open my eyes to see that the car was gone. My head whips around as I see that they car had already gone through me; meaning that I had failed. I groan in anger as I shake my head, imagining that I was in front of that car again; that I had another chance to focus on my trigger.

In the blink of an eye, something changed around me. When I had opened my eyes again, I was facing the car again, it still racing towards me. I didn't get the chance to focus as the car zoomed on past me, still not slowing down any. I gasp as I look around, seeing that I was no longer standing where I had been a few moments ago. It was like I had imagined where to go and I was there; like I had teleported somehow.

"What the hell," I mumble to myself, knowing that there had to of been something else I could do on this side. I guess teleporting was one of them. But I needed to try it again, just to make sure that it wasn't a coincidence.

So that's why I closed my eyes and imagined myself in Allison's room, remembering the way it was arranged almost perfectly. All of those days and nights I've been in there, not being able to sleep, just caused me to take note on my surroundings. Those things being the little lamp on her desk, the photos in the little basket next to her laptop, and the little chip in the woods on her closet door.

To my surprise, when I had opened my eyes again, that was where I had stood. The first thing I had seen when I opened my eyes was Allison, who was already fast asleep in bed. I breathe heavily as I look around the room, making sure that I wasn't hallucinating or something. It amazed me that I could do this; but mostly it made me mad that I had just now figured it out. After all, it's not like there weren't countless times this could have been helpful.

But at least I'll be more of use now.
