16. Suicide Squad

"Derek is outside waiting for Lydia," Scott says as we walk into some office, myself only following Allison. But what was new there?

Allison and Stiles walk into the room as Scott shuts the door, Allison turning around and looking at Scott. "Waiting to kill her?"

Scott sighs as he glances at the floor. "If he thinks Lydia is the Kanima, then yes. Especially after what happened at the pool-"

"It's not her," Stiles says, confident in his words. I had respect towards him for having faith in Lydia, but all signs were pointing towards her. She had to be the Kanima.

Scott shakes his head. "She didn't pass the test, man. It's gotta be her..."

"It can't be her," Stiles says again sternly. I sigh as I glance back at Allison, who was looking up at the celling.

"It doesn't matter because Derek thinks it's her," Allison says, stress behind her words. "So either we can convince him it's not her, or we've got to figure out a way to protect her."

Scott nods. "I really don't think he'll do anything here; not at school."

"What about after school?" Allison says, deep concern for her friend. I knew that I probably should be out keeping an eye on Lydia now, but I needed to hear what the game plan was. Plus, I wasn't going to break my promise to Lydia.

Scott sighs as Allison's head falls in her hands. The room is quiet before I speak to Allison. "What if we can prove Derek's wrong?"

Allison looks up at me before she repeats my words. "What if we can figure out how to prove Derek is wrong?"

"What before three o'clock?" Stiles says, his sarcasm showing.

Allison seems frustrated. "There might be something in the Bestiary-"

"Oh yeah? The book that's in Archaic Latin and that none of us know how to translate? Good luck with that." Stiles says, his eyes wide.

Allison thinks for a moment. "Actually, I think I might know someone who could translate it."

Scott nods. "I can try and talk to Derek, if he'll listen...but guys, if anything happens, let me handle it. Got it?"

Allison furrows her eyebrows. "What does that mean?"

"You can't heal like I do," Scott says, staring down at Allison. I could tell that his little crush on Allison was beginning to show. "I just don't want you getting hurt."

Allison gives him a pathetic look before she stands up and grabs her bag, unzipping it as we all watched closely. My heart pounds before she pulls out a crossbow, it unfolding as she lowers it by her side. She glances over at me before smirking slightly, turning back to Scott.

"I can protect myself."

I smile faintly at Allison, glad that she knows how to defend herself, but worried of something going wrong. What if Derek were to get to her and bite her this time? What if Isaac or Erica severely hurt her? I couldn't imagine what I would do to anyone if they ever hurt Allison. I might be dead, but I'll make sure they wake up on the other side with me.

"What?" Allison says as Scott stares at her, confused as to why he was looking at her that way. "Did something happen?"

"I just don't want either of you getting hurt," Scott says, the room almost completely silent. "Seriously, if anything happens, call me, okay? I don't care what your parents do to me. Call, text, scream, yell; I'll get there as fast as I can. I couldn't imagine losing either of you two."

Allison seems flustered for a moment, but she quickly nods her head as she stares at the floor. A part of me felt jealous of Scott, but for the most part I was relieved. I was glad that someone like Scott was there to protect Allison when I wasn't. He was a werewolf and was alive, unlike me. I trusted him to keep her safe.

"We've got until three," Scott finally says before turning around, heading towards the door. I let out a long breath before I hear the crossbow fire, causing me to whip around and face the direction it came from. I watch as an arrow flies from the bow, flying right through me and heading straight for Scott. Scott turns around before catching it quickly, his eyes wide.

"My bad," Stiles says as he lowered the crossbow, Allison turning around and taking it from his hands. "It's got a sensitive trigger."

I roll my eyes before Allison shoves the bow back into her bag, zipping it up all the way. Stiles and Scott both walk out of the office as Allison and I stay, myself needing to tell her a few things.

"Scott's right you know," I say, walking up behind Allison. "I know that you can defend yourself, but sometimes you can't all of the time. I don't want to see you getting hurt either."

"I'll be fine," she says while throwing the bag over her shoulder. "I'll call him if I need him."

I nod. "Good. So what do you want me doing, since I usually don't get a say in it anyways."

Allison thinks for a moment before looking back at me. "Stay with me this time. I need you to watch after Lydia and to be our eyes and ears."

My heart races after Allison says this, glad that she actually wants me with her for a change. "Got it."

"Now I need to go talk to Ms. Morrel," Allison says, sighing. "Hopefully she can translate some of the Bestiary and give us some good news."

I scoff slightly. "We're dealing with a person who looks like a snake. Do you really think there will be any good news?"

Allison shrugs her shoulders at me, understanding my point. She doesn't say anything else before she walks out of the office, leaving me behind. My mind races for a moment as I stand there and think; trying to process what all has went down in the past couple of hours. I knew that a lot has happened, but I also knew that there was more soon to come.

And I don't think I'm prepared.

--------

"What did she say?" I ask Allison as we walk down the hall, walking at a fast pace. We were going to meet up with Stiles, Jackson, and Lydia; since Stiles had convinced them that they were coming over for a study group. Well, more like convinced Lydia, since Jackson is kind of already in the know about this stuff.

Allison thinks for a moment as she shakes her head. "She said that the Kanima's power is at it's peak on the night of the full moon, but that wasn't the strange part. The weird part was that she read that the Kanima seeks a friend; whatever that's supposed to mean."

"Maybe it's lonely," I say, but that was when I realized that that was another sign pointing towards Lydia.

Allison nods sternly. "Maybe...maybe like a teenager."

"Allison!" Stiles yells down the hall, Lydia and Jackson standing behind him. Lydia was standing there picking at her nails while Jackson had an annoyed look on his face; but I could tell that that was a normal expression for him.

Allison catches up with Stiles before the two share a few words. "I'm going to take them to Scott's house, so just play along with it, alright?"

Allison glances back at me. "Got it."

Stiles nods before turning around and walking back towards Jackson and Lydia, placing his hands on each of their shoulders. Both of them hum in disapproval before shaking Stiles' hands away, but they both continue to walk towards the door. I trail behind Allison as we follow after the three of them, curious as to how this night was going to go.

"Did you find Scott?" Allison says to me as we step outside.

I nod my head. "Yeah, and Derek didn't give in. He still is positive that it's Lydia and he wants to kill her."

Allison groans as she closes her eyes for a moment, upset that Derek was coming after her best friend. "Thank you for telling me."

I could sense that something was off about Allison, but that was easily explained with what was happening. It was strange though; it was like she was only focusing on one thing rather than the whole picture. It worried me a little bit, but I wasn't going to say anything. I didn't want to start a fight.

It doesn't take us long before we reach Scott's house; which wasn't very far away from Allison's house actually. The car ride had been pretty silent; myself included. I wasn't going to say anything to Allison when Lydia was around, since she could hear me and I didn't want to break my promise to her. I didn't want to make her go more insane than what she already was.

"If we're studying at Scott's house, where is Scott?" Lydia asks as we all walk up to Scott's house, stopping in front of the door.

"He's coming here later," Stiles recovers, urging Lydia along faster for the fear that Derek might show up and attack her here and now. We all walk inside of the house before Stiles shuts the door, grabbing the lock and locking the door. He also twists the lock shut before peeping out of the window, leaving Lydia very confused and worried.

"What are you doing?" Lydia asks, pursing her lips.

Stiles opens his mouth, nothing coming out for a moment. "Uh, there's been a few break-ins around the neighborhood."

Lydia nods, understanding Stiles before he reaches around her and grabs a chair, propping it up against the door knob. Lydia stares at this as well before Stiles trying to safe himself. "And a murder...it was very bad."

Everyone stands there in awkward silence before Jackson looks up, staring at Lydia. "Lydia, I need to talk to you for a minute."

Lydia seems annoyed before she walks off down the hall, her heels clicking with every step. Jackson gives Stiles and Allison a "you owe me" kind of glance before following after Lydia, the two of them disappearing into one of the rooms down the hall. I debated whether or not to go after them and see what was happening, but I knew I probably didn't want to know; since more than likely it would end with a make-out session.

Allison stares at me for a moment before she turns and looks out of the window, along with Stiles. "Uh, well this isn't good."

I look over Stiles' shoulder as I see Derek, Erica, Isaac, and Boyd standing outside; looking at the house as the sun started to set. A huge knot forms in my stomach as I back away from the window, looking over at Allison.

"Call Scott, Allison," I say, not caring whether or not she called another boy. All I cared about was her safety. "Please Allison."

Allison hesitates, but she soon pulls out her phone and dials Scott. "Scott, they're here. They're not doing anything, but they're here-"

Allison is silent for a moment as she listens on the other line, soon hanging up and shoving her phone back into her pocket. "He's on his way."

I take a deep breath before Allison turns around and grabs her bag off of the table, unzipping it to pull out her crossbow. She unfolds it before walking back over to the window, looking out at Derek and the rest of them again. It stays like this for a moment before the tension grows too strong, making Allison pull her phone out again.

"What are you doing?" Stiles asks, myself curious as well.

Allison shakes her head. "I-I think I need to call my dad."

"But he'll-" Stiles starts to say, but gets cut off by Allison.

"I don't care," she says, her voice stern. "They're not here to sell girl scout cookies, okay? They're here to kill Lydia. What are we supposed to do?"

My heart aches as Stiles is silent, not sure what to do either. I didn't want Allison to have to call her dad, but I also didn't want Lydia to die or for anyone to get hurt. I felt so useless.

"I have an idea," Stiles says, sounding confident. I didn't like where this was going. "Why don't you shoot one of them?"

"Are you serious?" Allison and I both say at the same time.

Stiles nods his head. "Scott told us to protect ourselves, so let's do it, alright? Let's just give it a shot."

Allison is quiet for a moment. "Alright."

"They don't think we're going to fight. So if one of them gets hit, I guarantee to you that they'll go running scared," Stiles says, but I wasn't all for this plan at all. "So just shoot one of them."

Allison peeps through the window again. "Which one?"

"Hmm, Derek. Definitely Derek. Preferably in the head," Stiles says, the tone in his voice showing how terrified he really was.

"Scott was able to catch an arrow so Derek could too," Allison says, taking a deep breath.

Stiles closes his eyes for a moment. "It doesn't matter then. Shoot one of the three of them."

"You mean two," Allison says, making my heart stop.

Stiles furrows his eyebrows. "No, I mean three."

Stiles rips the curtain open as I look out as well, seeing that there were only two. "Where in the hell is Isaac?"

My question was answered as I watch Isaac come up from behind us, his eyes glowing yellow.
