13. Seeing Red

"Are you sure you're okay?" I ask softly as Allison staggers into her room, already showing signs of fatigue. I helped her get home, but I was deathly nervous of how she was feeling. It was a good thing her parents weren't home, or else they would have asked a lot of questions.

"I'm fine Corey," Allison says, sighing slightly. My heart sinks even further as we both walk into her room, myself watching her carefully as she slips her shoes off and walks towards her bed. "I just need to sleep on it."

"Allison..." I say, fading out.

Allison looks up at me, pain behind her eyes once again, but she was trying her best to hide it. "Corey I promise I'm fine. It was my fault anyways; I wasn't smart enough to bring a weapon."

"None of that was your fault," I say, my temperature rising as I remembered Derek's red eyes. "Derek is going to pay for what he almost did to you. That's not something he'll get away with, I promise you."

Allison sighs. "I guess I need to get used to it if I'm going to be a hunter. Derek wouldn't have done it; he was only using me as leverage."

I clench my fist. "But what if he had, Allison? Your family would have killed you before giving you a chance and then you'd be dead like me. I'll tell you what Allison; being dead is not fun. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like if I didn't have you to talk to. I'd literally go out of my freaking mind."

Allison sighs as she places her hand on her head, staring at the floor. "I-I know Corey. I'm doing everything in my power to bring you back, so don't worry about that please. I just--I just need some sleep."

I instantly feel bad after she says this. I didn't mean to yell at her, I just wanted her to know that she shouldn't take things this lightly. I knew that she shouldn't just go after Derek or anything like that, but I needed to give her a reason to fight. To not give up.

I watch her turn around before I take a step backwards, ready to go sleep downstairs on the couch. "I'll see you in the morning, okay?"

Allison turns around again. "Goodnight Corey."

I smile faintly and nod towards her, looking back at the ground before turning around and walking out of the door. My mind was buzzing with so many thoughts and feelings that I could hardly contain it. The worst part for me was that I couldn't sleep it off, since I was dead.

"Hey Corey," Allison says again, causing me to turn around and face her. She looks like she's about to ask me something important before she shakes her head, looking back at the ground. "Never mind."

I nod towards her one last time before walking out of her room, heading down the hall and back to the couch. Seeing Allison hurt and broken like that was new for me; I mean, I knew that she was tough and was a fighter, but this was different. It was almost as if the whole matter had opened her eyes to something, but I wasn't sure what.

I start to walk down the stairs before I look up, seeing the door open. I furrow my eyebrows as I watch Gerard walk into the house, glancing up the stairs as if he expected to see Allison standing up there. He reaches for his jacket and begins to slip it off before something falls from one of the pockets, landing on the floor with a thud.

I hold my breath as I stare at some type of old looking book, making me wonder what in the world it could be. Gerard quickly picks the book back up before shoving it back into his pocket, looking around as if to make sure no one saw. Seemed fishy to me.

The man slips off his shoes before walking towards his room, acting as if that had never happened. Another reason for me not to like the man. I knew that he was one of the worst hunters ever, but there was something else off about him that made me nervous.

I had a feeling we'd be finding out about it soon enough.

"I can't believe you came to school," I say as I scan the faces in the hallway, keeping my eye out for Erica, Isaac, and Boyd. If any of them were at school or even looked at Allison so help me God I'll make them wish they were dead.

Allison glances at me quickly as she makes sure no one is watching. "I had to Corey. What would my parents think?"

"Who cares," I say before I look up, seeing Scott and Stiles coming towards Allison. Scott was almost at a full run while Stiles was walking at a normal pace.

Scott stops in front of Allison. "How are you doing? Why are you here?"

Allison groans. "Scott I'm fine, I promise. And I just can't miss school because some idiot of werewolf almost bit me."

Scott sighs as Stiles finally catches up. "Just be careful okay? I haven't seen Erica, Isaac, or Boyd yet, but they might show up anytime. I don't want you around them."

Allison nods as she glances at me quickly. "I can take care of myself."

Stiles nods before he gets down to business. "Scott, are you going to ask her?"

"Ask me what?" Allison says, her eyebrows furrowed.

Scott sighs before looking back at Allison. "Earlier Deaton, my boss, was saying that your family keeps some type of book on all of the supernatural creatures. Something called a Bestiality?"

Stiles groans. "He means Beastiary."

Allison shakes her head. "No, I haven't heard of anything like that. What's it look like?"

Stiles gestures his hands. "It's an old brown book; probably bound in leather-"

"I've seen it," I say, not really meaning to say it out loud. "Allison, Gerard has it. I saw him with it last night."

Allison glances over at me as Stiles waits for her to answer. "Yeah, I uh-I've seen Gerard with something like that."

Stiles and Scott's eyebrows raise. "Where does he keep it?"

Allison looks at me, waiting for an answer. "He dropped it out of his coat. That's all I know."

Allison nods slightly before looking back at the boys. "He must keep it in his office."

Stiles nods. "Can you get it?"

I bite my tongue as Allison nods. "I can see."

"You're coming to the Lacrosse game tonight right?" Scott asks Allison, who looks like forgot all about it.

She nods. "Y-Yeah. Gerard and I are coming."

Scott smiles. "Okay, I guess I'll see you there."

Allison smiles and nods before they both walk around Allison, heading towards class. I sigh as I look back at Allison, knowing that she was about to get herself into trouble by getting that book. Don't get me wrong, I knew that we needed to find that book, but I wasn't ready stand by and watch everything unfold.

I just wished I wasn't dead.

"Is that thing even a teenager!" I hear the school Coach scream, pointing towards the freak of nature on the lacrosse field. "I want to see a birth certificate!"

I laugh slightly as I sit next to Allison, Gerard at her side. I felt uncomfortable with Gerard here, but no way was I going to leave Allison by herself with this guy. It made me feel nervous.

Allison grabs her arms. "Man, I knew I should have grabbed another jacket."

Gerard looks up. "You're cold? Here, take mine."

I watch as Gerard takes off his black coat, handing it to Allison. She nods and smiles as she stands and puts it on, glancing down at me before sitting back down. I stay quiet as I watch her reach into the pocket, her face frowning when she feels that it's empty. She moves her hand to the other pocket before smiling, grabbing a set of keys.

"Bingo," I say, causing Allison to smile. We both turn back towards the Lacrosse Field and watch as that guy knocks down another kid, smiling with pride. I had to admit, that guy was a freak of nature, unless he was a werewolf of some sort. The kid seriously was huge.

I look down when I see Stiles walk beside the bleachers, looking up at Allison. She clutches the keys before handing them down to him, causing him to grab them and run off towards the school. I stay seated as Allison turns towards me, whispering quietly.

"Follow him," she says so quietly that only I can hear.

I shake my head. "I'm not leaving you Allison-"

"Please," she begs. "If something happens come and get me."

I sigh, not wanting to leave Allison but also knowing that me following Stiles was the best move. Since no one could see or hear me, I could sneak in there and get out easily and be a messenger. I also could tell by Allison's voice that she was desperate, which also led me to listen to her.

"Okay," I say, standing up slowly. "But I swear if anything happens-"

"I'll be fine," Allison says again, nodding towards the school. "Go."

I nod stiffly before I jump down from the bleachers, listening to the crowd screaming in anger as I headed towards the parking lot. The dew from the grass rubs up against my shoes as the air seems to be growing colder and colder by the minute, making even me shiver slightly.

I look up when I see Stiles standing by a car, talking to someone inside. I furrow my eyebrows as I walk over, only hearing that last part of the conversation.

"It'll only be five minutes," Stiles says, beginning to walk away. "I'll be right back. I promise."

I hear a sniffle and a faint "mhm" before Stiles takes off towards the school, leaving me behind. I glance into the car and see Lydia there; crying up a storm. I wished I could have stayed and talked to her, but I needed to watch after Stiles.

I groan before taking off towards Stiles, running through the school doors and finding him walking into Gerard's office. I run after him before I step into the office, watching as he rummaged through the drawers and other nooks and crannies. I watch him for a moment before he sits back, sighing that he had found nothing.

He pulls out his phone and begins to text someone before I hear something behind me, causing me to turn and see Erica standing there. I narrow my eyes as she grins at Stiles, causing him to look up with pure panic on his face.

I go to punch Erica in the face once again, but my fist just goes right on through her. I groan in frustration as she steps towards Stiles, her fist clenched.

"Shit..." Stiles mutters before Erica steps forwards, grabbing him and dragging him out into the hallway. My blood boils as I try to decide what to do; go get Allison, or follow Stiles and Erica. I decide to follow after Stiles and make sure he'll be okay, since that's what Allison would have wanted.

"Ow!" Stiles whines as Erica holds him by the ear, dragging him to where the pool was. My fist clenches when I see Derek standing there, holding a basketball.

Erica lets go of Stiles as he stares at Derek. "Well this is just great."

If I wasn't dead right now, I would stab Derek's eyes out. He deserved to pay for what he did to Allison, yet he is still as cocky as ever. I hated his guts.

"So I heard you saw the creature the other night Stiles," Derek says. "What did it look like?"

Stiles sigh. "I didn't really see it."

Derek's claws extend as he pops the basketball, the thing deflating in a matter of seconds. "Is that your final answer?"

Stiles mutters some more curse words before he spills his guts. "Okay look, it had scales, it had these yellow eyes, it had some type of long claws, and it had this type of gross goo."

"Goo?" Derek says as Erica stands next to him. All I could see was red as I stared at the two of them.

Stiles nods. "Yes goo, Derek. Do you know what that is? It's like a sticky substance-"

"Uh," Erica says as she looks upwards, causing me to furrow my eyebrows. "I think I know what he's talking about."

Stiles' eyes brighten. "What? You've seen it too?"

Erica nods. "Y-Yeah."

I watch as she points a trembling finger upwards, causing my eyes to follow and see the same creature that had attacked Allison the other night. I take a step backwards as Stiles and the rest of them do as well, terrified of the thing. I didn't blame them.

"Run!" Derek says as he pushes Stiles behind him, but the creature is already coming at them. It jumps down and grabs Erica before throwing her into the wall, knocking her out cold. The thing then scratches Derek on the back of the neck before backing away, waiting for the scene to unfold.

I'm frozen in place as Derek falls into Stiles, seeming to be paralyzed. Stiles panics as he drags Derek beside him, trying to get out his phone and call for help, but ends up dropping it beside the pool. He goes to pick it back up, but instead drops Derek into the pool.

My feet begin to work as I start to back up, knowing that I needed to go get help. All I see is Stiles dive into the pool after Derek as I turn and bolt down the hallway, hearing nothing but my heartbeat and that creature's hissing.

I knew something was going to go wrong tonight.
