12. Close Calls

"What did you see this time?" Allison asks me as we walk down the school hallway. "You know, in your vision."

I walk beside her. "I'm not entirely sure. It was hard to see like last time, but I did see Jade again."

"Really?" Allison says, glancing over at me. "What was she doing?"

My mind flips back to the vision. "She was sitting up against the wall holding her arm, which was bleeding. She was crying and saying things..."

Allison raises an eyebrow. "What was she saying?"

I lick my lips. "She said that something was all her fault; that she was sorry."

Allison sighs. "I wonder what that means."

I shake my head. "It probably doesn't mean anything. They're just visions after all."

Allison scoffs. "Well, you're in Beacon Hills now, and you take everything seriously. Even something as simple as a vision."

I smile faintly. "Yeah, but I mean, Jade is dead. I watched her die, Allison."

"I know, but whatever you're seeing has to mean something. Especially since you've only seen Jade so far," Allison says.

I shrug. "Well, I have seen her and two other people too."

"But Jade was there too," Allison says before stopping, turning and facing me. "You may think these visions don't mean anything, but just be wary, okay?"

I nod my head slowly. "Sure, as long as you're wary about this whole situation with your grandpa."

Allison sighs. "I know, Corey. It's just a complicated situation."

I raise my eyebrows. "Complicated situation? It's more than that."

"I know," Allison says, fading out. "With that going on, that creature lurking about, and trying to figure out how to bring you back has just been stressing me out."

I shake my head. "Don't worry about me, Allison. You have a lot to deal with right now so you don't need to be trying to help me."

Allison shakes her head. "Corey, I'm going to figure out how to bring you back, I promise. It might just take longer than expected."

I nod my head, totally understanding. "I'm not going anywhere, so you can take your time."

Allison smiles at me as I smile down at her. She's silent for a moment before her expression changes; almost as if she had remembered something.

"Corey, you never got to finish your sentence last night before Lydia screamed," she says, her eyes wide with curiosity.

My throat becomes dry as I laugh, but it sounded completely fake. "Huh? I didn't? Are you sure?"

Allison nods. "I'm positive."

I shake my head while rubbing the back of my neck. "I'm pretty sure I told you."

Allison looks suspicious. "Well, tell me again."

I gulp as my face grows hot. "What are we talking about again?"

Allison gives me a pathetic look. "Corey-"

"Who's Corey?" I hear someone say before I whip around, seeing Scott and Stiles standing there. They both had backpacks on their backs and had their eyebrows raised.

Allison's eyes widen before she shakes her head. "Corey? I didn't say anything about a Corey."

Stiles points towards her. "I just heard you-"

"Really? You must have misheard," Allison says, gulping. Scott and Stiles exchange a glance before they shrug it off, deciding that they just heard her wrong. "So, what did you guys need?"

Scott nods down the hallway. "Well, we just came from the lunchroom and might have figured out who Derek is after next."

I look down at Allison. "What? Who?"

Scott stares at Allison. "Boyd."

"Boyd?" Allison says, shaking her head. "The kid that sits alone every day at lunch?"

Stiles nods. "Yeah, that kid."

Allison starts to take a step down the hall. "We need to go stop Derek-"

Allison gets pulled back after Stiles grabs her arm gently. I furrow my eyebrows before Allison stands up straight again, waiting for Stiles to explain himself.

Stiles looks at the ground. "What if this isn't so bad?"

"What?" Scott and Allison say at the same time.

Stiles sighs. "I mean, Derek is giving them a choice. You gotta admit, Erica does look pretty good. You know, the word sensational comes to mind."

Scott scoffs. "How will she look with a wolfsbane bullet in her head?"

Stiles shakes his head. "I guess what I'm saying is that this isn't really up to us."

Allison shakes her head. "No, but if we let it get out of hand, then it is up to us."

Stiles nods after she says this. "Alright, come on. Let's go find Boyd."

The three of them start to walk down the hall as I trail behind, like I always have been doing ever since the day I died. I mean, I didn't really care that I was sort of left out since I was practically invisible, but not being able to eat or sleep has really been getting on my nerves lately.

"I'll go to Boyd's house," Stiles says while walking ahead of Scott and Allison.

Scott nods. "I'll go to the ice rink and see if he's working."

Allison looks up at Scott. "I'll go with Scott."

Scott looks down at Allison. "Are you sure you want to come with us?"

Allison raises an eyebrow. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"I mean, I don't want you getting hurt and I know you don't really like Derek," Scott says.

"No one really likes Derek," Stiles mumbles to himself before Allison speaks.

"I can protect myself Scott," she says, determination in her tone. She looks over her shoulder at me for a moment, staring into my eyes. "Trust me."

"I don't like this," I say as we walk into the ice skating rink. I scan the room we were in; which was almost pitch black. I could hear something really loud in the ice skating rink as well; sounding like some type of running machine. The place we were at only yesterday seemed to of gotten way creepier.

Allison looks back at me as Scott walks forward slowly, heading towards the rink. Allison whispers, "It's fine."

Scott glances over his shoulder at Allison, hearing her whisper but didn't think much of it. I shake my head as we walk forward, heading towards the sound. "Why do I have a bad feeling?"

Allison doesn't answer me as we all step onto the ice, seeing Boyd riding one of those machines that smoothened the ice. I raise an eyebrow as Scott walks forwards, Allison and I staying behind.

"Boyd!" Scott calls, earning a look from Boyd. He just glances at him before turning away, ignoring him. "I just want to talk. Come on Boyd, please. Did Derek tell you everything? And I don't mean just going out of control on the full moon; I mean everything."

Boyd sighs before turning off the machine, turning and looking at Scott. "He told me about the hunters; especially about the one standing over there."

He looks up at Allison, almost giving her a rude glance. I narrow my eyes as I step forward for some reason, almost as if I was trying to protect her. Boyd looks away from Allison before back down at Scott.

"And that wasn't enough for you to say no?" Scott says, his hands in the pockets of his black jacket. Boyd is silent. "Boyd, there's other ways to get what you want-"

"I just want to not eat lunch alone every day," Boyd says, his voice rising.

Scott nods. "If you're looking for friends, you can do a lot better then Derek."

"That really hurt, Scott."

I whip around before I see Derek standing there, a half smirk on his face. Standing to his side was Isaac and Erica, who looked totally unamused. Allison walks backwards away from them, a panicked look on her face. Erica laughs as Allison stumbles for a moment, Isaac picking at his nails as she does so.

"I mean, if you're going to review me, at least take a consensus," Derek says, his hands behind his back. He looks over at Erica and Isaac. "Erica, how's life been for you since we've met?"

Erica flips her hair off of her shoulder, smirking as her eyes scan Allison's face. "Hmm, in one word...transformative."

Canines extend from her teeth as she roars, a grin on her face. Derek nods his head. "What about you Isaac?"

Isaac shrugs. "Well, I'm a little bummed about being a fugitive but other than that, I'm great."

Scott shakes his head. "Hold on, this isn't exactly a fair fight."

Derek raises his eyebrows as he glances over at Allison. "Then go home, Scott."

Scott holds his ground as Allison glances up at me, knowing that something was about to go down. My eyes scan Derek and the two teens at his side before he nods towards them, causing them to walk forward and head towards Scott.

"Stop this!" Allison yells, causing Erica and Isaac to stop and look at her. "You don't see what's happening here, do you?"

Erica shakes her head. "Oh sweetheart, I see exactly what's happening, and that's me ripping your throat out."

I bawl my hands into fists as Erica roars at Allison, causing her to take a step back. I knew that Allison wasn't afraid- I knew that she could take this bitch down in two seconds flat-but I did know that she knew she was outnumbered; plus she didn't have a weapon.

"Erica," Derek says to her, causing her to stop and turn to face him. Derek raises his head for a moment, almost having a look of hesitation before he nods. "Bring her to me."

I hold my breath as Erica nods, a smirk plastered on her face. Allison's eyes narrow as Erica runs towards her, Scott yelling over the sound of roars. "Don't you dare touch her!"

Before Scott is able to come help Allison, Isaac is attacking him, throwing his claws at his face. I don't know what to do as Erica slams into Allison, knocking her to the ice below. Allison yells as I stand there, screaming even though it was pointless.

I needed to find my trigger. Now.

"Get off of me!" Allison yells before Erica pins her down, running one of her claws down the side of her cheek.

"You really are a pretty girl Allison," she says, her eyes turning yellow. "I wonder what you'd look like with claw marks across your face."

After Erica says this, anger rises in me, making my hands grow hot. I don't know what I was thinking, but I raise my leg and kick it towards Erica's side. At first I thought that it was just going to go right through, but instead I actually made contact. Erica yelps as she flies off of Allison, sliding across the ice before she digs her claws into it.

"What the hell," she says before getting back up on her feet, looking over and seeing Scott farther away than she had originally thought. Allison scampers back onto her feet as I walk forward, deciding to try again if I could hit her.

I raise my fist this time before landing it on her cheek, making contact once again. Some type of courage rises in me after I do this, seeing that it really hurt Erica. She looked utterly confused as to what was happening before she stands up straight again, looking around for the source. I decide to punch her again as I do so, causing her to double over in pain. As she does this, I decided to hit her one last time; this time right smack in the jaw.

I clench my fist before throwing it upwards, hitting her jaw from underneath. She screams once again before her head flies upwards, her body collapsing to the ice below. I grin as she lays there completely still, dazed as to what even just happened.

That's what she deserves for touching Allison.

After I do this, I hear another yelp from behind me. I whip around and see Derek standing there, holding onto Allison. She struggles in his grasp as I hold my breath, seeing that he had her sleeve pulled back. His eyes were a glowing red and his teeth were extended as well, and that was when I knew what he was planning.

"Choose Scott," Derek growls as Allison shakes her head, tears forming in her eyes. "Who's it going to be? The guy you barely know or your high school crush?"

Scott stands up then, and that was when I saw that he was covered in cuts and blood. Isaac was also lying at his feet, passed out cold just like Erica. Scott shakes his head as he steps forward, seeing a tear fall down Allison's cheek.

"Derek, let her go," Scott says, his voice cautious. "You don't have to do this."

Derek nods while gripping Allison's wrist. "Yes I do Scott. Like you said, I work with threes and I need one more beta. Now choose or else I will for you."

Scott shakes his head, completely speechless. I was frozen in my place as Allison looks over at me, pure pain and sadness behind her eyes. She looks away from me and up at Derek before closing her eyes, knowing what was coming next.

Derek widens his mouth as he moves closer to Allison's wrist, deathly close to biting her. I scream as I finally snap into motion, running towards Derek in desperation to stop him. I knew that Allison didn't want to be a wolf; let alone be Derek's beta. I also knew that her family wouldn't allow it. They would kill her before the next full moon.

"Wait Derek!" Scott yells finally, causing Derek to stop in his tracks. He looks up at Scott as Allison opens her eyes, mascara now starting to stream down her cheeks.

Derek laughs then, looking over at Boyd. "See Boyd? I told you this was how it would play out. He doesn't care about you."

After he says this, he throws Allison to the ground, acting as if she was some type of doll. I run to her side before helping her sit up, hearing soft sobs escape her throat.

Scott looks hurt after what Derek did. "What are you talking about?"

Derek nods towards Boyd. "Show him yourself."

I look up and see Boyd lift up his jacket sleeve, revealing that he was already bitten. I shake my head as Allison watches Boyd step off of the machine, walking towards Derek and his two betas that were now finally recovered. Scott shakes his head as they all walk out of the rink, leaving the three of us alone.

Allison holds her breath as she looks up at me, tears still in her eyes. "I thought he was going to do it. I thought he was going to turn me."

I shake my head before pulling her closer, staring off at where Derek walked off. "Don't worry Allison. We're going to make him pay."

Corey and Allison are so cute I just can't <3
