08. Hero
"You can shoot a bow?" I say, widening my eyes as Allison and I walked behind a set of buildings.
Allison smiles and nods. "I've been shooting one since before I could walk."
I nod my head. "Must be a hunter gene or something."
Allison laughs as she steps in a puddle of water. "That's what I tell myself."
I laugh with her before she stops in her tracks, listening for a moment. I furrow my eyebrows. "What?"
"Shh!" she tells me, causing me to mentally groan.
"Allison, how do you keep forgetting that I'm dead?" I say as she slowly walks forward. "No one can hear me but you! And Lydia apparently..."
I roll my eyes before I follow after, wondering what she was hearing. I catch up with her as she looks around the corner of the ally, looking at a man walking this way. It was the same man I saw in her hallway that was going to kill Isaac.
"That's him," I say to her as she nods, holding up her compound bow and placing an arrow on the rest. I watch with anticipation as she places her lips on the kisser button, closing one eye and looking through the scope. I had to admit, she looked pretty bad ass.
My heart skips as she lets the arrow fly, the string humming softly as she let go. I follow the arrow as it lands in the man's calf, causing him to yell out in pain. He falls to the pavement as he wraps his hands around the arrow, trying to stop the bleeding.
"That was awesome!" I breathe while laughing. "I honestly thought you were going to kill him though."
Allison shrugs as she smiles. "I'd rather torture him rather than kill him."
I laugh before she looks back at the hunter, who was now crawling towards his car. "Might wanna shoot his other leg so he can't drive."
"I have a better idea," she says as she lifts the bow again, placing a different type of arrow on the rest. The arrowhead seems to flash red for a moment before she lets go, the arrow flying and impacting the cars tire. Not only did it pop the tire, but it also blew up the whole car.
The man watches with wide eyes as the car bursts in flames before he looks over towards Allison and I. Allison hides behind the wall before he can see as she smiles, knowing that she just practically saved Isaac.
"An explosive arrow," I say, laughing. "What else do you guys have?"
Allison shrugs. "Well, we do have these arrows that spark to blind wolves, but it's nothing major."
I smile as I shake my head. "This just keeps getting cooler and cooler."
Allison smiles before her phone dings. She furrows her eyebrows before she pulls it out, seeing that she had received a text. Her face drains for a moment before she looks up at me.
"It's Scott," she says as she shoves her phone back into her pocket. "He's at Isaac's house and the full moon is out."
I widen my eyes. "He's turning?"
Allison nods before turning and walking down the ally way, heading back to her car. "Yeah, and we need to get there to chain him up so he won't kill anyone."
I trail after her as she stomps through a couple of water puddles, somehow not managing to ruin her combat boots she was wearing. She grips the bow in her hand as the quiver on her back bounces when she walks, the arrows inside of it clinking when they made contact. I look up and see her white Toyota parked behind a dumpster, the headlights still on.
"How far away is this kids house?" I ask as we both get into the car. Allison starts the engine before backing out of the ally way.
"Not far," she says before zooming off down the road, not paying attention to the speed limit. In fact, she was going 60 when the speed limit was 40mph. I didn't see any police cars out, so whats it matter?
"What exactly are you planning to chain him up with?" I ask as she takes a right turn.
Allison nods towards the back of the car. "I have a set of chains in the trunk."
I widen my eyes. "Do you just randomly keep torture items in here?"
Allison nods. "Pretty much."
"What happens when someone like Lydia finds them?" I ask.
Allison shrugs. "I'll make an excuse I guess. That's what I usually do."
I roll my eyes. "Are you guys even going to tell Lydia about all of this?"
Allison sighs as she thinks for a moment. "Maybe someday. I want to keep her out of all of this. I know that if the roles were reversed, she'd do the same thing."
I shake my head. "But she's something now, so she practically is already involved. Doesn't she deserve to know?"
Allison closes her eyes for a minute. "Yes, but only when that starts to threaten us or herself. Like I said, I want to keep her safe."
I nodded before she pulls in front of a house, none of the lights on. She quickly gets out of the car before walking around to the trunk and getting out a set of chain and locks, which almost looked brand new to me.
"Go find him," Allison says as she wraps the chain up so she can carry them. "I'll be in there in a minute."
I nod before turning and running to the house, walking through the door like it was air. My eyes have to readjust to the darkness for a moment before I look around the house, seeing that it was a little messy. I slowly walk forward and into what seemed to be the kitchen when I noticed a pile of glass on the floor.
I kneel beside it before examining it, deciding that it must have been a plate at one point. It appeared that someone must have thrown it at the wall, but I didn't know why or for what reason. They must have been pretty angry.
I stand up again as I walk out of the kitchen, heading towards the living room. I didn't see Scott as I scan the room, only noticing a couch, a TV, and a few other random pieces of furniture. I start to turn around to check the other rooms before Allison is standing there, holding up a flashlight on her phone.
"Jesus," I say, gasping. "You scared me half to death."
Allison raises an eyebrow. "But you are dead-"
"Don't rub it in," I say as she rolls her eyes. She turns and walks out of the room before coming across a door in the hall. She looks over at me before opening it slowly, the door creaking as she did so. We both are silent as we stare down at the darkness, not being able to see anything.
Allison nods towards me. "Ladies first."
I narrow my eyes. "First off, I'm not a lady. Second off, what make you think I'll go down there first?"
Allison sighs. "Because you're dead."
I groan before walking down a step, mumbling under my breath. "That doesn't mean I still don't get scared..."
"What was that?" Allison says as she walks behind me.
I look over my shoulder. "Nothing."
Allison shines the flashlight around. "Are you sure? I thought I heard you say-"
"Allison?"
I whip around when I see Scott on the ground, looking up at us. He was on his knees and his eyes were shining a vibrant yellow, which were staring at Allison. I stare at him for a moment before Allison runs forward, kneeling beside him.
"Scott, we need to chain you up," Allison says as Scott nods. Allison holds out the chains slightly as Scott shakes his head.
"Those won't hold me," he says before looking behind him. "You need to put me in there."
I look up and see a freezer farther into the basement, old and rusty looking. Allison looks up at it for a moment before she shakes her head. "Scott, I can't put you in there-"
"You have to," Scott says before cringing, almost as if he was fighting off turning. "It's the only way."
Allison's face shows concern. "Maybe we can-"
"No," Scott says as he slowly starts to stand. "I'm going in that freezer."
I watch as Scott walks over to the freezer, lifting the top before staring into it. I walk up behind him and see scratches along the roof of the lid and inside the freezer as well. It appeared that Scott wouldn't be the only one who's been locked inside before.
Scott gets inside of the freezer as Allison walks up next to me, holding the freezer door open for him. The chains in her hand clink together as Scott sits inside the freezer, looking up at Allison with sad eyes.
"Scott, I don't think I can do this-"
"You have to," Scott says as he nods. "You have to lock me up and get out of here."
Allison furrows her eyebrows. "I'm not leaving."
"Yes you are," Scott says. I could see behind his eyes that he didn't want to hurt Allison in any way. "You know what I could do to you."
Allison shakes her head. "I can protect myself."
Scott sighs. "I know you can, but just in case, please?"
Allison is hesitant for a moment before she finally nods, agreeing to leave as soon as the deed was done. Scott smiles faintly before cringing again, his eyes glowing a brighter yellow than before. His mouth widens as canines start to form, still amazing me.
"Hurry," Scott says as Allison nods, slowly shutting the lid to the freezer. Scott watches us as the last few rays of light shine inside before Allison seals the lid. She takes a deep breath before wrapping the chains around the handle, locking it with a pad lock after doing so.
After this is done, Allison turns towards me. "Come on, lets go."
I don't say a word as I nod, knowing that this hurt her to leave her friend here like this. I couldn't even imagine what I would feel like if it were Jade and I in this situation. I wouldn't be able to leave her either.
Allison walks first this time as she walks up the stairs, walking at a faster pace than normal. I run after her as we reach the main floor again, turning and shutting the basement door.
"He'll be fine," I say, trying to make her feel better. "You're doing the right thing."
Allison nods stiffly before a noise in the living room makes my blood run cold. Allison and I glance at each other nervously before I turn around, trying to see through the darkness. However, I couldn't see anything. I turn back and look at Allison.
"I'll check it out. You stay here," I say as she nods. I lick my lips slowly before turning and walking towards the living room, my heart racing in my chest. I knew that I couldn't get hurt or die again, but I was worried for Allison.
"Hello?" I called, mentally cursing at myself again when I remembered they couldn't hear me. Being dead sure did suck.
I slowly walk into the living room, my eyes scanning the darkness. I couldn't see anything before I hear another noise; this time above me. I slowly look up before I see something inhuman; neither werewolf or anything I've ever seen before. It looked almost like a large lizard; yellow glowing eyes and a long tail that was swishing above my head.
"Allison!" I yell before the creature hops down from the celling, hissing as it runs out into the hallway. "Allison, run!"
I hear her scream, causing my stomach to lurch before I run after the creature. I stop in the hall when I see a glimpse of Allison run into the kitchen, the creature at her heels. I don't bother running down the hall as I run through the wall, seeing Allison now standing there with a knife in her hand. She had it pointed at the creature, who was standing on four legs, hissing and spitting.
"Come on," Allison mumbles under her breath, waiting for the creature to make a move. "Come on!"
I don't know what to do as the lizard creature raises on two legs, looking as if it was about to pounce. Allison's face goes from bravery to fear in a snap when the creatures eyes stare into her own, almost mesmerizing her. Anger rises in me as I stare at the creature, hating it for threatening Allison like this. I wanted it dead.
Before I have time think, the creature lunges at Allison. The next thing that happened was almost like pure instinct; like I knew what I was supposed to do. I jump out in front of Allison, acting as if I was going to stop the creature from hurting her. However, I forgot about the fact that I was only a ghost.
Only this time, I feel the creature slam into me, the two of us falling backwards. The creature lands on me as Allison screams, clutching the knife in her hand. I widen my eyes when I realize that the creature was actually on top of me; not in me or through me. I could feel it on top of me. How was this happening?
The lizard thing hisses in confusion as it looks around, seemingly trying to figure out what it slammed into. Allison takes this as her chance as she stabs the creature in the back, causing it to fall off of me. At first, I thought that she might have killed it, but it was far from that.
The creature leaps up again before hissing, reaching behind it and pulling the knife out of its back. I scramble off of the ground as I watch it drop the knife to the ground, turning and hissing at Allison. It looked like it was about to pounce again before a blur flies in front of me, who I soon saw was Scott.
Scott roars at the creature before the lizard turns and runs off, jumping through the window and shattering the glass. I let out a gasp as Scott turns back to Allison, scanning her up and down for any wounds. I shake my head as Allison looks over at me, confusion on all of our faces.
"What in the hell was that thing?" Allison says, directing the question towards me.
"I don't know," Scott says slowly, answering before I can do so. I take a deep breath before looking over at the knife lying on the floor, now stained with blood. That was when I realized what even happened. First Allison's family is declaring war on all werewolves and now this creature is here, which seemed to want to kill Allison.
Just another typical day in Beacon Hills I suppose.
