02. Waking Up
I gasp as I sit up, my hand clutching to my chest. My lungs felt heavy and it was a little hard to breathe, but I couldn't remember why. What happened? Where was I?
I furrow my eyebrows as I look around, seeing that I was laying on the side of a river. My eyes dart around when I see an ambulance and a couple of police officers rushing around up on a bridge, but I couldn't remember why. I look down at myself and see that my clothes were soaking wet; along with my hair, which was now laying down flat on my forehead.
I scramble to my feet as I start to run towards the bridge, wanting to know what in the hell was going on. It felt like something terrible happened, but I couldn't place my finger on it. All I could remember was Jade and I driving down the road talking about my ex girlfriend. Everything after that was a blur.
I crawl on my hands and knees up the hill before I reach the bridge, noticing that it was more chaotic than it was from down below. My legs become wobbly as I walk down the bridge, scanning all of the police officers and their vehicles. Something bad happened here, but what?
"Excuse me?" I ask as I walk up to an officer, noticing by his name tag that he was the Sheriff. Sheriff Stilinski to be exact. "What happened here?"
The man doesn't even look at me before walking around me, acting as if he didn't hear me speak a word. I shake my head and furrow my eyebrows before turning to another officer, asking the exact same thing. He walks away from me again, just like the sheriff.
I turn to go ask another officer before something catches my attention. One of the paramedics was rolling a gurney towards the ambulance; the sheet that covered the body was halfway open. My eyes well with tears when I see that it's Jade.
"Jade!" I scream as I run over to her, placing my hands on the side of the gurny. Her face was pale and her lips were a cold blue, her eyes also latched shut. I noticed that her hair was wet and that so were her clothes, and that was when I realized that she must have went over the bridge.
The man pulls the gurny away from me, causing me to run after. "Stop! I'm her friend!"
The man doesn't listen as he loads Jade up on the ambulance, shutting the doors. I look into the window, screaming for them to stop, to see the man take the sheet and cover her face with it.
She was dead.
The ambulance drives off and I stand in the road and cry, not believing what just happened. My best friend died. My one and only friend died below this bridge.
Tears fall down my face as I turn back to the police men, running over and screaming to know what was going on. My blood boiled with rage as I shouted in their faces, none of them even noticing that I was here.
"Hey!" I scream at one of the deputies, who's name tag read as Parrish. "Why won't you listen to me!"
The man doesn't even flinch as I shout at him, myself finally having enough. My hand bawls into a fist as I go to punch the man, who doesn't even notice that I'm standing here. When I go to punch the man, my fist flies right through him, like I was invisible or something.
I back away from the officer, my eyes wide. I stare at my fist, shaking my head. "What the hell..."
"We found another body!" I hear an officer scream. I whip around to see them drag another body from the water, one that made my heart sink.
It was me.
I slowly walk over to my body, noticing my pale skin and dark blue lips. My eyes were wide open in fear and my hair was flopped over in front of my face. Tears stream from my eyes as I kneel beside my body, staring at my lifeless eyes. That was when it hit me.
I was dead.
One of the officers reaches out and closes my eyelids, making me look somewhat at peace. I shake my head as they pick my body up and take me away, disappearing inside another ambulance.
"I'm dead," I say out loud, trying to comprehend this. "I'm dead."
I can't be dead. This must be a dream. Yeah, this all has to be some type of sick nightmare. I laugh at myself and shake my head, knowing that none of this had to be real. I reach up and pinch my arm, trying to make myself wake up.
"Wake up dammit," I say, pinching myself harder. I close my eyes for a moment as well, but I was still here in this nightmare.
It wasn't a dream.
I shake my head before I fall to my knees, my head falling into my hands. I sobbed, not believing that any of this was true. I can't be dead. Jade and I can't be dead.
Jade.
I look up suddenly, wondering where she must be. If I'm dead and I'm here now, shouldn't she be here with me? I have to find her.
"Jade!" I yell as I search the bridge, my eyes scanning every possibility of where she might be. I managed to dodge the officers on the bridge as I look for her, not finding her anywhere. "Jade!"
I look over to see the sheriff talking to some kid, two other teenagers standing at his side. This catches my interest for some reason as I walk over to listen to what they say.
"Dad, what happened?" The buzz headed kid says.
The man sighs. "Two teenagers drove over the bridge about an hour ago. Both of them are reported dead."
The boy widens his eyes as the girl standing beside him scans me up and down, but I knew she must have been looking at something else since she couldn't see me.
"Who was it?" The kid asks his father.
The sheriff holds up a piece of paper in his hands. "It was a Corey Walker and a Jade Garcia. Any of you all recognize those names?"
The three shake their heads as the sheriff sighs. "How'd they wreck?"
"We think it might have been drinking, but at this point we aren't for sure." I roll my eyes and cross my arms, shouting at the sheriff.
"We weren't drinking!" I shout in his face. "A truck was driving in our lane!"
The girl stares at me again before turning back to the sheriff. "What if another car drove them off of the road?"
I stand straight as stare at her, wondering if she actually heard me. "That could be a possibility."
The boy looks back at his father. "What are you three doing out here anyways?"
The other boy answers. "We were out searching for Lydia."
The sheriff sighs. "That's nice of you guys, but you should head on home. It's getting late. Especially you Stiles, you have a test tomorrow."
The boy who I guessed was Stiles sighs. "But dad-"
"Go home. I'm sure Scott and Allison's parents are wondering where they are by now as well."
I look back at the girl, noting that her name was Allison. What a pretty name. No, focus Corey. You just died. You can't be wanting a relationship when you're dead.
Allison scans me up and down again before following after the other two boys, which I found a little odd. Maybe she could see and hear me? I had to find out.
I start to run after the three teenagers, listening in on their conversation as well.
"We can meet up and go look for Lydia tomorrow," Stiles says.
Scott nods. "Yeah, sounds good to me."
"What do you think is the matter with her?" Allison asks, her voice wavering.
Stiles sighs. "Well, she was bitten by an alpha and didn't turn into a werewolf. Who knows what's wrong with her."
I furrow my eyebrows and speak before I even realize it. "Werewolf?"
Allison whips around after I say this, staring at me in the eyes. I cock my head slightly, knowing then that she actually heard me. It appeared that she could see me as well.
"Can you hear me?" I ask as I step forward, Allison furrowing her eyebrows.
"Allison?" Scott asks as the two boys turn towards her. "What are you looking at?"
Allison looks at the two boys before back at me, realizing to herself that she was the only one who could see me. "Nothing. I must be hearing things."
She turns around and walks off with the two boys as I stand there, thinking things over. If she can hear and see me, she might be able to help me find Jade or to even maybe figure out how to bring me back. By the fact that they were talking about werewolves, they might know just a little about the supernatural.
I don't hesitate as I follow after the three teenagers, leaving the wreck and chaos behind me.

Okay so Corey finally meets Allison! I think I've decided that Allison will be the love interest, since she is the only on who can hear and see him. Makes the most sense to me :)
