epilogue.

Three months later, Cedric sat on the exam table in his doctor's office, leaning back slightly as the physician looked over his chart with a pleased expression. The room was warm, sunlight filtering through the blinds, but Cedric felt an anxious anticipation settle over him.

"Mr. Pierre, your healing is going pretty well, perfect even," the doctor said with a reassuring smile. "You should be fully recovered by the next month. Just keep up with the physical therapy and avoid overexerting yourself."

Cedric let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. "Fully recovered, huh?" His voice was calm, but Billie, seated in the chair beside him, could sense the relief in his tone.

"Finally," she chimed in with a grin, reaching over to squeeze his hand. "I was starting to think you'd milk this whole 'wounded hero' thing forever."

Cedric smirked, his green eyes flicking to her. "You think I wanted to be walking around with a cane?"

"It had its charm," she teased, leaning back in her chair. "You're like a British, modern-day Mr. Darcy. Except hotter. And less grumpy."

Cedric shook his head, amused. "You're ridiculous."

As the doctor left the room, Billie stood, smoothing her oversized sweater over her growing bump. She had her style down to an art, rocking a chunky knit sweater paired with a long skirt featuring a modest slit up one side. Black Uggs completed her effortlessly chic look, and Cedric couldn't help but notice how radiant she seemed. Pregnancy looked good on her, but it also brought a quiet strength to her that he found himself admiring daily.

Once Cedric had his jacket on, they headed out for what would be the highlight of their day: finding out the gender of their baby at a surprise baby shower Zoe had insisted on throwing for them.

The party was held at Zoe's house, the backyard decorated in pastel pinks and blues, with balloons, streamers, and a massive sign that read "Baby Pierre: Boy or Girl?" Billie and Cedric were greeted by her tight-knit circle of friends-Quen, Odessa, Zara, and the rest-who immediately began fussing over Billie's bump.

"You're glowing, Billie," Zara said, handing her a mocktail as soon as she stepped into the yard. "I'm jealous. You look annoyingly perfect."

"Tell that to my swollen ankles," Billie retorted, though she smiled, her hand instinctively resting on her belly.

Cedric hung back at first, letting Billie enjoy her moment in the spotlight, but Zoe wasn't having it. She grabbed him by the arm and dragged him toward a table where a large glow stick sat at the center.

"Alright, Mr. Quiet Giant," she said with a grin. "We're all dying to know. You get the honors."

Cedric raised an eyebrow as Billie joined him, looking equally intrigued. "What am I supposed to do with this?" he asked, picking up the lengthy glow stick.

"Crack it," Zoe said, clapping her hands together. "And when it glows, we'll all know if it's a boy or a girl!"

Billie stood beside him, biting her lip as she watched Cedric inspect the glow stick like it was a piece of military equipment. The crowd of friends grew quiet, anticipation building.

"Alright," Cedric said finally, his deep voice cutting through the silence. He held the large glow stick up and cracked it with a loud snap. For a second, nothing happened, and then-

A bright pink glow spread through the stick, illuminating Cedric's face. The yard erupted into cheers and applause as Billie gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.

"A girl," Cedric said softly, staring at the glowing pink stick in his hand. He turned to Billie, his green eyes shining with emotion. "We're having a girl."

Billie nodded as she threw her arms around him. "A girl," she whispered into his shoulder.

Cedric hugged her back, his grip firm but gentle, as though he were holding the entire world in his arms.

Later that night, after the excitement of the shower had died down, Billie had another surprise in store. She had made a reservation at one of Cedric's favorite restaurants-a small, intimate spot tucked away in the heart of the city.

"Alright, what's this about?" Cedric asked as they were led to a secluded table near the back.

"Just wanted to spoil you a little," Billie said with a sly smile.

Cedric chuckled, shaking his head. "You've been spoiling me since I moved into your place. What's the catch?"

"No catch," she said innocently, though her heart raced as she thought about what she had planned.

The evening passed in a haze of laughter and quiet conversation, the kind of easy, intimate moments that had become the cornerstone of their relationship. Cedric had just finished his dessert-a decadent chocolate mousse-when Billie reached into her bag and pulled out a small velvet box.

"Cedric," she said, her voice steady but her hands trembling slightly.

He looked up from his plate, his brows furrowing in confusion. "What's that?"

"Just... let me talk," she said quickly, her cheeks flushing as she took a deep breath. "I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I know it's not exactly traditional, but I don't care about tradition. I care about you. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, Cedric. You've been my protector, my rock, and now... now you're going to be the father of my child. I can't imagine my life without you, and I don't want to imagine it without you."

She opened the box, revealing a sleek platinum band. "Cedric Pierre, will you marry me?"

For a moment, Cedric just stared at her, his expression unreadable. Billie's heart pounded in her chest, her nerves threatening to get the best of her. But then, to her surprise, he laughed-a deep, warm laugh that made her stomach flip.

"What's so funny?" she asked, her cheeks burning.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box of his own. "I had the same idea," he said, his voice filled with amusement and affection.

Billie's eyes widened as he opened the box to reveal a delicate diamond ring.

"Billie O'Connell," he said, his voice soft but steady. "I've loved you from the moment you cursed me out for the first time. You're stubborn, brilliant, and completely unpredictable, and I wouldn't change a single thing about you. I wanted to wait until the perfect moment to ask you this, but I guess you beat me to it."

He slid the ring across the table, his green eyes locking onto hers. "So, what do you say? Will you marry me?"

Billie stared at him, her heart feeling like it might burst from her chest. Then, with a laugh, she reached across the table and took his hand. "Only if you say yes to me first," she teased.

"Yes," Cedric said without hesitation, his voice filled with certainty. "Yes, Billie, I'll marry you."

She grinned, slipping the band onto his finger before holding out her hand for him to do the same. As he slid the ring onto her finger, she felt a wave of emotion wash over her-joy, relief, and an overwhelming sense of rightness.

"Looks like we're both stuck with each other," she said, her voice light but filled with love.

"Couldn't imagine it any other way," Cedric replied, leaning across the table to kiss her.
