Chapter 7

Gilbert glanced across the room at Ludwig. His little brother was sat on the bed of their hotel room, swinging his legs carefully. Most of the other nations had gone home or were catching flights out of the country. Not them. Ludwig wanted to see places, so they were staying here for a couple of days before going back. They were going to see all of America, even though Alfred said it was impossible to do in three days. It was possible. It was definitely possible.

"So Luddy, where do you want to go first?"

Ludwig looked up, slightly startled and shrugged. "We're in New York."

"We may as well see it now" Gilbert picked up a map from the desk and laughed as Ludwig frowned, shocked, at him. "Yes, the awesome me has a map. You gotta problem with it?"

Ludwig shook his head and went back to staring at his feet. There was a knock at the door and Gilbert dropped the map and ran to open it. "Yes? Who is requiring the awesome me's presence?"

The man at the door had dark brown hair, so dark it was almost black, and a single, thick piece of hair that stuck up from his forehead, annoying Gilbert greatly. Behind him was a woman with long, light brown hair in a dark green uniform. The man swallowed and peered at him.

"Um..." he started.

"Is it you?" the woman interrupted.

Gilbert blinked. "Of course it is the awesome me."

"It's him" the man sighed.

"How dare you scare us like that" the woman hissed, barging past the man and shaking him. "Don't ever, ever, ever scare us like that again you understand? You too Ludwig. Never again?"

Ludwig looked up and stared at her for a second.

"Um... Elizaveta, I think you're going a little over the top" the man muttered, stepping into the room behind her. "Let me explain. I'm not sure how much you remember, but I'm Roderich Edelstein and this is Elizaveta Héderváry. I'm your brother."

Gilbert frowned at him. "But... Ludwig's mine brother."

"There's also Vash and Berwald. I don't think you've re-met them yet" Roderich said as Elizaveta put Gilbert down. He glared at her the second his feet touched the floor and took a couple of steps backwards.

"So... we have family we don't know about?" Ludwig muttered, still staring at the floor and swinging his legs.

"You should have a kind of reunion of some kind" Elizaveta cried. "Get them to know each other!"

Roderich spluttered. "I... um... I don't think that's a very good idea Liz"

"Why not?" Elizaveta glared at him. "We all know that you don't really hate Vash."

Gilbert grinned. "If you hate him then we should definitely do that."

Roderich glared at him and sighed. "You always were determined to make things hard for me weren't you Gil?"

"The awesome me strikes again" Gilbert cried, throwing his arms in the air, his grin widening.

Allistor flopped down in a hard airport chair and glanced across at Arthur. He was staring down at the floor and swinging his legs, which were at least four inches too short to reach the ground. It was a sight he hadn't seen in a long time and it made him laugh.

"What?" Arthur looked up at him and frowned.

Allistor pursed his lips and shook his head. No way was he getting off on a bad start. They had some... difficulties in the past, and he wasn't about to re-create those difficulties. This was a fresh start, preferably not the way he'd have really wanted it, but it worked out. He fumbled in his pocket for his phone and unlocked it, hitting the call button and turning to Arthur.

"Give me a second, I'll be back. Just need to make a call." Arthur nodded and he stood up, wandering over to the window and pressing one finger against his other ear to try and hear better against the noise of the airport.

"Yeah Scottie?" A thick Irish accent crackled into hearing on the other end. "Is he..."

"Alive" Allistor grinned at the window. "They weren't kidding when they said they'd come back."

On the other end, Ronan sighed. "Buíochas le Dia. So, are you coming back now?"

"We're at the airport. Maybe about...six or seven hours until we're back in the Isles."

He heard a rustling at the other end and assumed Ronan was nodding. "We'll be here when you get back."

"Okay" Allistor turned round, went to hang up and stopped, laughing.

"What?" Ronan sighed. "Have you had too much to drink again Scottie?"

"He's talking to Francis" Francis had appeared out of nowhere and was hanging over the back of one of the seats to the back of Arthur's talking to him. Arthur's gaze hadn't left the floor, but he was nodding every so often in acknowledgement. Allistor shook his head and turned back to the window. "And not beating him up."

There was a pause. "Okay, who're you trying to bring home, because it clearly isn't our brother."

Allistor rolled his eyes. "See you in a bit."
