Nova took a deep breath and continued, " one normal day when I was six my parents were busy and my little sister, Evie was crying" her breath grew shaky "as most of you know my power is that I can put people to sleep with skin contact". Magpie looked over to Adrian who was standing next to nova, although you couldn't see the slight rosy-ness on his cheeks against his dark skin, she could tell he was blushing. Reverting her attention back to nova, magpie continued listening to nova's speech, " while my dad was finishing up a bracelet he was making, he asked me to put Evie to sleep, I then put her in her nursery" nova closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "We heard noises coming from our apartment, when my parents went to check it out they told me to stay in the room" Adrian put a hand on nova's shoulder and gave her an encouraging nod, " I could hear my parents yelling, then screaming, then, a-a gu-gunshot" nova squeezed out the word, stuttering " then more screams than another gunshot" she managed to say it more confidently this time, "I was terrified, to scared to scream, to scared to cry. On the silence that had suddenly taken me over, I noticed Evie was crying. I just kept telling myself it was going to be fine, that the renegades would come, but that didn't last long. Another gunshot and there was no more crying coming from Evie's nursery".
Nova continued talking but magpie didn't pay attention to the rest. There was something, almost too familiar with that story that nova had told.
