Author's Note
This poem was written when I was in fourth grade (which would make me 10 years old) for a pen pal. I got the idea because I wanted to send her an origami frog that I had recently learned how to make. As I was finishing the poem, I realized that I had created a metaphor; although bad things may be happening in your life, there is always some hope. Valleys will always lead to peaks again.
This wasn't the first poem I wrote (I've been writing poems since the second grade, and I don't remember what the first was, but I do remember being obsessed with writing about sunsets.) but to this day, it is my most famous poem that I have written, and I am still very proud of it today. The original poem only consisted of the first three stanzas, but then in 2015 when someone named Heike Bobert was inspired to write a melody for it, I was inspired to create a second "verse." I am still playing this song on my ocarina, and it means I have a melody to pass on to my children.
