Elaine's POV;

Tonight was finally going to be the engagement party. The whole week went by pretty fast. This party was huge. My father has a huge social circle and apparently Atlas has a lot of people he knows too. The party is being held at his mother's house. So my parents had decided to go on ahead there at around 6:30pm. Atlas will come pick me up at 7pm.

It is 3:30 pm and I still have a lot of time to get ready. Ah, who am I kidding? Even if I have a whole day, that still wouldn't be enough time.
I took a bath and change clothes. My dress was a strapless royal blue cocktail dress that I absolutely love! I decided to put a bit heavy makeup on to match with my outfit. I was about to start with the makeup when the bell rang and I open the door to find Atlas there. Oh shit! It was already seven and I still had to do my hair, put on my jewellery and heels.

"Just wait. It'll only take five minutes max!" I said to him as I ran back up to my room to get ready. After a while, when I was just curling the ends of my hair, I hear a knock on the door.

"Enter." I said as Atlas comes into my room

"It's been thirty minutes! How long does it take to get ready?" He asked as he was annoyed

"I'm almost done." I replied. If only he knew that it takes so long to get a perfect eyeliner and get all your makeup done. Along with, you must have perfect hair. And I even forgot to pick out which jewellery to wear, the night before, so that took a lot of time.

"I'm leaving without you."  He said

"Just wait. I'm coming!" I said as I quickly put on my heels

"Whatever." He said as he left

"Hey! You can't just leave without me! Who goes to their own engagement party without their fiancé?" I shouted at him as I then hear the door being shut.

I quickly grab my jewellery and my purse and I go out after him, but he's gone. That jerk! He actually did leave me here! Arg! I then get a taxi and go to the party. On the way, I wear my jewellery.

As I arrive there, I find him standing outside.

"Oh finally, you are here. I was planning on going in without you if you were going to be late one more minute." He said

"You left me! Couldn't you have waited just one more minute?" I said as I glared at him

"Nope. I hate people who are late and I don't wanna be one of them." He replied as he grabs my hand, "Come on. Let's go inside."

"Let go of my hand." I said even though I know that he was just doing this as part of an act

"Where's the ring?" He asked, ignoring what I just said to him

"Oh my god! Where's the ring? I swear I put it in my purse!" I said as I go through the things in my purse looking for the ring

"Don't tell me you forgot!" He said as he glares at me

"Hey don't look at me! This wouldn't have happened if you wouldn't have left me behind!" I replied as I again go through the things in my purse and finally find the ring! Oh yes! Thank god! I quickly wear the ring back.

"You're lucky it was in your purse." He said as we go inside

"And you're lucky you're still alive." I replied sarcastically

As I went inside, I found the place to be packed. I knew that his mother's garden was huge, but the garden looked small in all these people. There are so many people, that I couldn't even keep up with their names or who was who.

I introduce Atlas to my friends and family along with my father's friends. And he introduces me to his side of the family and friends. Most of them were famous business owners. I was surprised. He knows a lot of famous people. I even spotted a few models and celebrities. 

After meeting everyone and eating dinner, I was tired. A lot! Wearing these high heels was a wrong choice. But still I've got to admit, they do look good! I sat down on a chair as I watch everyone. Most of them were dancing to the music, and the rest of them were talking. I looked around when I saw Atlas standing with his group of friends. Tyler, Mike, Zach and a few others. He was laughing and looks like he is having fun. He was wearing a grey suit with a black tie. His hair was in a slick back hairstyle. Although by now a few strands were loose and were now in front of his forehead. He still looked handsome in that. Even if he does look nice, I am still not going to forgive him for leaving me behind.

Just then a girl comes over to him and kiss him on his cheeks. And then they both started coming towards me. This girl is gorgeous. She has long straight beautiful blonde hair with ocean blue eyes. And she is wearing such a pretty dress.

"Elaine, meet Leila. Leila meet Elaine, my fiancé." Atlas introduced us to each other as I got up and he stands next to me.

"Nice to meet you." She said as he she shakes my hand.

"It's nice to meet you too. Thanks for coming." I replied. She is so polite.

"You look so pretty. Congratulations on your engagement!" She said as she smiles

"Thank you." I replied

"So this is the girl you left Sophie for. I thought you were joking when daddy told me about your engagement. Why have you kept her a secret?" She said as she gets closer to Atlas and he moves a bit back, towards me.

"I just like to keep my personal life private." He replied as he smiles.

"Oh! That's cool! Speaking of which, why haven't you answered any of my calls lately?..." she said as she keeps talking to Atlas while ignoring me. Atlas doesn't reply much as he only tries to tell her off. But it isn't working. This girl is stubborn. I could see Atlas was irritated. 

"Oh! I love that song! Let's dance!" She said as she grabs his arm

Atlas pulled his arm back and came closer to me and said, "Sorry, I promised Elaine that I'd only dance with her." He lied. I could tell he said that so she would go away. Just then something came into my mind. I smirked as I then said, "Oh, it's okay. I don't mind. You two can go dance." I smiled.

"Okay so that's it. Let's go!" Leila said as she grabbed Atlas's arm and started pulling him to the dance floor. Atlas glared at me as he said something. I couldn't hear him properly but I'm pretty sure he said something about hating me or whatever. Well he deserved that. It was payback for leaving without me. I smiled and waved at him. "Have fun!" I said as I again sat down. I watched both of them dance and I could see Leila talking about something and Atlas being annoyed. I laughed a bit as I watched them. Just then I hear someone call out to me. I stand up and turn around to see John standing there.

"John! What are you doing here?" I asked

"Are you happy to see me? I'm back! I told you I will be!" He replied as he hugged me

"It's nice to see you. But what are you doing here? I thought you had gone abroad." I asked as I pulled myself back from the hug

"I did go abroad. But I only went to take care of somethings. I didn't move there yet." He replied

"I see." I said

"You look so stunning, Elaine!" He said as he moved a bit closer to me

"Thanks." I replied as I moved a bit back

"This is not fair, Elaine. You really hurt my feelings. Just love me. It isn't too late. You can end this engagement." He said

"John, no. I'm happy." I replied.

"You really have changed. What's really so bad in me that you hate me?" He said. I felt sad for him. I never hated him.

"I don't hate you, John. You're a really nice guy, but..." I said as he cut me off by saying, "But! There's always a but! What have I done to deserve this? Is this my punishment for loving you?!" He said angrily. I had never seen him like this before. I never meant to hurt him.

"No, John. It's nothing like that. You did nothing wrong. It's me, I'm the one who's rejecting you. Because I don't love you in that way. Please don't say those things." I replied

"Why? Because you feel hurt for rejecting me? Well you should! And then I'm sure you will come back to me!" He said as I was about to reply but Atlas came to us.

"Hey, you! I need to talk to you." He said to me. I looked at him and then turn around to look at John, but he was gone. He wasn't there.

"Where did he go?" I said as I looked around

"Who?" Atlas asked

"Never mind. What is it?" I asked

"Why did you do that before?" He asked

"You mean let you dance with her? Why? What was wrong with that? She seemed like a sweet girl. Besides, it was payback." I replied

"Listen to me, I don't like that girl at all. She's annoying. So I'd like it if you don't do that anymore." He said

"Sure." I replied without even looking at him. I was still thinking about what John said. I've really hurt him. I've hurt my friend.

"You....are you..." Atlas was about to say something when he didn't. We stood there watching everyone else.

"My feet ache." I complained as I didn't want to think about anything else.

"So?" He said as he was using his phone

"I shouldn't have worn these heels." I said. I knew he wasn't listening but I was getting bored.

"Your fault." He replied. Well at least he was replying. Usually when he's using his phone, he barely replies.

"So, who's Sophie? I've met her. But who is she?" I asked. I was getting bored. Everyone was mostly dancing. And I had no one to do that with. So I started making up a conversation.

"......The one whom I don't want to marry." He replied after a short pause.

"Oh, why? Are you blind? She's so pretty!" I said. And I was telling the truth. That girl was a model!

"I could say the same to you about that guy whom you don't want to marry. Besides, I have my own choices and I like them." He replied

"Fair enough." I said. I understand what he meant.
