I walked into the phone repair shop with my father by my side.
It had been 2 weeks since it had broke, but I was never in a rush to get it back. I wasn't that attached to my phone. Devon was stupid enough to leave it on top of his car and drive off. (This legit happened to someone I know)
How does that happen?
Don't ask me, I don't even know .
Long story short, my phone falls off the car, gets run over by another vehicle. Bye bye everything I had saved on there.
Well so I thought.
Dev offered to get it fixed for me. Said he knew a guy who knew a guy. I could trust that, right? We'll he said that he would have it fixed and ready by the 5th...which was like one and a half weeks ago. That is why you can't keep that boys word for shit. If you asked him to help you with something, lets say homework, so you could be ready for a test. He would do it, but just show up 3 weeks after you took and failed it.
I speak from experience.
My dad reaches the help desk before me and starts up a conversation with the man there. I on the other hand, need to pee...bad.
"Excuse me. Where are your restrooms?"
"You just go down that hall way and then make the first left you see." He pointed as he spoke.
"Thanks. I'll be back daddy."
I followed the mans directions, and reached the women's room. It didn't take long for me to be done with my business. Walking out again, I tried to find my way back to where I came from.
Of course, I get lost.
After walking around for about ten minutes, and walking into rooms I had no business being in. I made my way back.
As I got closer, I saw my father holding my Samsung Galaxy S5 in his hands with some type of paper work.
"That's it?" He asked the man.
"Yup." The help desk man replied.
Had I really been gone that long?
Just as I made it right up to my dad he turned to me. Acknowledging my presence. "There you are hun. What took you so long?"
"I got lost." I answered, kind of embarrassed.
"Lost where? In the toilet?" He mocked. I just gave him that it's not that funny glare. "Here you go. Tell Devon next time, he is paying the bill." Once he said that, he handed me my phone.
"Wait, he offered to pay for it."
"Yeah, but I got it. He doesn't have to worry about it."
One of the many reasons I love my dad.
Soon after we left the store and began to head home.
After a while of customizing my phone, most of the information was actually still there. I don't know how that was possible, but I'm not one to complain. I was finally done tweaking up the minor details. And probably for the hundredth time, I decided to call Dev. That jack has been ignoring me since yesterday afternoon.
I punched in his number. As I could've expected...voicemail. I have had just about enough. Jumping off the bed, I got my coat, my house keys, shoes and my wallet.
I would have to do something I absolutely dread.
Take the bus.
My dad had to leave. He works as an EMT, which means he is on call most of the time. Resulting in him being gone the majority of the day.
I took a glance at the clock and it read a quarter past four.
I got this.
I skipped out the house, making sure to lock the door.
...
The ride wasn't as bad as I previously knew it to be.
Said no one, ever in the history of riding public transportation.
There is this woman who sat next to me that reeked if cigarettes. I barely breathed the whole time. One old guy was getting way too touchy feel-y with me, which caused me to decide to just stand. But it gets worse.
There was one moment when the bus came to a sudden stop and I made contact with a greasy, sweaty, fat guy.
Just my luck.
Once I was near my stop, I immediately pulled the string.
This bus can't move any faster?
Once we stopped moving, I jolted out of that boxed up hell. I just couldn't anymore. Reaching the fresh air. I stripped of my jacket, which I was sure I would never wear again. Holding it with only two fingers. It was freaking freezing outside, but in life you must make sacrifices.
The whole distance I walked from the bus stop to Devon's neighborhood, my ass was freezing. Devon better appreciate this sacrifice.
Reaching his front door, I knocked seven times.
He didn't come to the door.
So I knocked again.
I heard someone moving inside of the house.
"I know you're in there Dev. Could you please just open the door, so we could talk this through?"
I stood there, for what felt like hours, and it seemed like the only thing listening to me right now was the crisp August wind, and the stars that were anxiously waiting to come out.
"Goodbye Devon. I guess I'll see you at school, if you decide to come."
Looking at the time, it was already almost eight. I had been standing outside in the fifty-seven degree air for almost two and a half hours now. Without a jacket too.
My skin had past the point of goosebumps, and now had just gone numb.
Well, it was time for me to head home. I didn't care about the bus anymore, I honestly just wanted the happy, carefree, easygoing, Devon back. I will do anything to do just that, but it would be a lot easier,
If only he would stop shutting me out.
