At First Sight

MILO POV'S

-Don't cry sweetheart... Everything'll be fine.

And with those apparently calm words she deposits a warm kiss on the baby's cheek. It was a different kiss than all, since he came to live, has received. A farewell kiss, since something was telling her that will be the last. That will be the end.

What would have said that a happy intimate moment could be destroyed just in seconds? A couple of minutes ago they were celebrating with smiles and applause the first "baby's" steps. An step... Then other... He fell... What was the matter? It'll be a thousand falls in life but the important is to stand up and continue. And that was what he did. With effort he achieved crossing the small room that, for them, was a living room, a kitchen and a dining room at the same time.

He didn't know, his short age didn't let him understand. His family was in a financial crisis. Food wasn't enough, the services were going to be cancelled, his father was fired and his mother couldn't find a job since she wasn't able to finish school because of her pregnancy. If he were older, he'd have thought his family financial status was all his fault; but instead, with this innocent spirit he simply devoted himself to smile and that way make his parent's day lighter and brighter. And that's that with all the necessities they had was necessary to get a loan. Other burden for the little family.

Their bank credit at the Atenas city bank was terrible. They didn't  have the chance to request a new loan with them. Were his apparent father's friends who made as creditors. Without other exit, he accepted. The interests were really high but, it was needed to subsist.

It was pouring with rain. The rain drops resounded on the washed-out sheet that served as roof. Some blows were heard at the door along with yells calling the his father. Who were they and why this late at night? It had been more than five months of debt, the interests kept increasing and the creditors weren't happy. They were furious.

His father asked his wife to take the baby and get out of the home as quick as possible by the back door, bringing just a few docs with her. He knew really well his "friends". He knew they no longer are what he though, or they actually never were. With a last embrace he said goodbye, forever; he knew, to the love of his life and the child of his dreams. He was going to die that night, he knew.

And there were they again. Under the pouring rain. She soaked and he warm covered by cotton sheets. And so she left him carefully at the front door of that enormous house in which ceiling can be read "Atenas orphanage", putting the documents on the child's chest. Dedicating a last sight, a last kiss.

-Don't cry sweetheart... Everything'll be fine.

After those words as farewell, she rang the doorbell and then got lost in the storm. Her son was safe. Her husband probably dead. What was going to happen to her?

She heard some steps behind her, a gunshot and on her last breath she pronounces her beloved son's name: "Milo".

I never knew about my parents, nothing more than the fact that they died in an accident for which there's not much information about. I was just a baby and my mother brought me to the orphanage to protect me from the destiny they had. My childhood was the same as a normal child. The orphanage principal was a mother for me, she received me that rainy night and took good care me; all my orphan housemates were like my siblings, we cared of each other and we delivered to each other the love our parents never gave us. The janitor was a really good person, he always gave me his advice on how to deal with life. He was like a father for me. Once he told me, the stars predicted my destiny, my future. It'd be a good one, I'd be adopted by a very happy couple and grow as a exceptional child. I'd fall in love, true love, and I'd be a successful man.

And so, it began to become true. I was adopted by a couple to whom Zeus didn't give a child. When they arrived to the orphanage they chose me immediately, the stars predicted it in such way. One of the documents I had with me that stormy night was my birth certificate, and that was the reason I was able to know I was born a November eighth. However, when Degel and Kardia adopted me, they chose my second birthday in this new chance life gave me was going to be that they we met. So, we celebrate my birthday twice in a year.

It's the first day of classes at the Sanctuary Private Atenas school. It was a blessing and a really good gift to see my classmates and my best friend Aioria. As all the years, on first day, my parents get up early to bring me breakfast to bed. Otherwise they know I'll never get out of bed. When I'm done, I dress up at great speed, picking up my schoolbag. Before I leave and say goodbye to my parents, I take an apple from the basket that's on the table.

-Take care, sweetie!

My mom shouts from the second floor.

-Roger! I love you both!

I arrive to the same my place for before classes, the bench in front of the fountain in the school's park. Here, we always wait for the bell to ring giving the entrance to the building. I receive greetings from all my classmates and other people I know from different courses. Can be said Aioria and I are the most popular at school, all thanks to the fact that we've been students here for our entire students life.

When directing my gaze to the fountain, I see someone in the crowd. Who's he? The dude next to the fountain showing his back to me, is someone I've never seen here before. His reddish hair, light skin, very very pale.  He's not Greek, definitely; very thin, fragile,  delicate. I can tell at first sight. He feels my glance and turn around to see me. The first time I was able to disguise I was staring at him, I guess. He sits at the corner of the fountain. He's alone. shall I talk to him? I notice he has thin but not -that- thin delineated lips. At first sight, it's a very uncommon boy and truly handsome. Shit! He turned again to face me, he discovered this time. Our glances cross and at that moment is when I can observe his eyes, a similar color than his hair but, despite of his eyes his gaze is totally the different. Cold. How is it possible that someone so beautiful, so refined can have a very cold gaze? Still, there's a sparkle on them that makes them mysterious.

-Pst, Aioria. Seems there's a newbie. - I tell to my  absent-minded friend.

Aioria would have turned if I didn't stop him. Strangely, I'm really nervous. Which course would he be in? I would love to get to meet him. Maybe, get to be his friend.

-Have you gone berserk? - I've never raised my voice to my best friend before but his proposal was totally insane and I'm too nervous now.

-I meant to say what I said, you should talk to him. The great Milo, friend of all new dudes! Go for it, man! You ain't doin' anything here, anyway. I mean, we can see each other on class, I'm not excuse and Natalie... You don't even care 'bout her. Everyone knows it. - I hate him when he's right.

-Alright, that's fine. I guess...

Here I go. Getting closer to the new guy. the mysterious new guy. I'd be pleased just by knowing what his name is, maybe his age or in which course he's going to. For the rest of the information I have an entire year.

The bell rings putting an end at my attempt of talking to him seeing that he started to take is belongings and heads to the building entrance. I try to follow him but he gets out of my view. Everything would indicate he's escaping from me, which provides me fun. He should have been scared by my appearance. Everyone says so, I look like a bad guy. My look puts a tag on me. If I were to describe my new no-friend by his attire I could say he's conservative and very matured for his age. Who shouldn't say that of someone with a white plain formal shirt, gray cardigan, tight Levi's and gray formal sneakers? People our age prefer more exotic trends or something that involve their favorite band.

Although, I don't remember who said once "don't judge a book by it's cover", perhaps this newbie will bring surprises with him. And is that, apart from Aioria, people at this school start to be boring. Can't be denied have a good time with some other classmate or acquaintance; on sport clubs or shared assignations, but there's nothing bad on having someone new to bring a more interesting vibe to my days.

-Sup man? Didn't got it, heh? -Aioria lays his hand on my shoulder and I get chills. He caught me off guard.

- No, I actually just wanted to know what course he's in. I think he's kinda interesting.

-So, Milo's fallen in love at first sight... - the tone he uses irritates me, too mellow for me. I know it bothers me and somehow I like it. I blush a little and lower my face.

-Yeah, sure. Since when did we begin with the homo humor? - Whisper to dissimulate I follow the conversation flow.

Once in the classroom, there's nothing new. My classmates are the same as always, I've been with them from previous years. As always, I take the last row sit, near the window. At my right is Aioria and in front, Natalie. I don't know what that girl gets by following me, It only annoys me. Last year she confessed her feelings and I was really clear to tell her I couldn't and will never see her the same way. That's how love is, that's what I've heard. Inexplicable and insistent.

Somehow I get sad by knowing that guy isn't on this class. I should have known, he was too matured. He might be on the last year of secondary school or maybe first year of high school. I will have to find out later.

The head teacher enters the class. I have seen him before but never had a course with him. As proper, he introduces himself to the class. Where are you now? Why can't I stop thinking of you if I just met you? This way I won't pay any attention to what the teacher's saying, thought I don't actually care, not today. Most likely he'll only ask our names, read us the school regulation, set up some coexistence rules and doing so the day will be gone. It's always like that.

-Can we enter? - That voice gets me out of my thoughts. It's the school principal. What's she doing here? I've not done anything yet, that I know of.

I direct my view to her but she's not alone. No. Is this possible? It's him. He's here, in my class. And so, an unexpected smirk is drawn on my face.
