Arc 1: The Last Child of the Sun
Tanjiro didn't know how long he had been training for.
The sun is starting to rise. He didn't sleep. Not like he has slept properly ever since his family was murdered by a demon. He feels that if he does, someone might take the last person that's important to him. His demon sister.
They must be close to the village. His next mission is taking place at Gokoyama Village. There have been a few demon sights taking place. It was Tanjiro's job to take care of it.
The village is just as beautiful and tranquil as legend has it. With large fields of rice and people who take care of it. There is mist everywhere, it has cold mornings too. The only thing Tanjiro could think of was if he could sleep during the day. Work at night.
"They sent you?"
"Yes?"
Tanjiro wasn't so sure why the chief of the village didn't look too pleased to see him when he was the one who requested a demon slayer.
The chief looks at Tanjiro up and down with a judging look on his face.
"We requested the Wisteria Princess. But I guess you would do."
The chief is an old man. With wrinkles in his eyes and grey hair. Two young men are sitting next to him. Tanjiro assumed they must be his children. The three have the same eye color.
"My village has been attacked by a demon every night. Killing men and women. The demon enter their homes and attack them," he says. "We've tried to fight back but as you see we are rice farmers, not warriors."
"Wouldn't it be better to put everyone in one place for safety?" Tanjiro asks.
"You aren't very smart are you?" the chief takes a particular interest in Tanjiro's wooden backpack. But he just lets it pass. "If we put everyone in one place and the demon smells us, he will eat us all in one go."
"Right," Tanjiro wanted to facepalm at that moment but opted not to. He already made himself a fool. "My apologies. I will eradicate that demon."
"You better," the chief says. "Lives depend on you."
.
.
.
The sons of the chief guided Tanjiro to his room. He follows and he hears them talk in between the two but their conversation doesn't seem too interesting for him to want to listen.
The house reminds him of his home. It's warm and cozy. It's larger of course. But this small village was very similar to the one he used to sell coal. Even the people look and sound the same.
If he thinks too much about it, he will cry. He decided to tune into the brother's conversation to distract himself.
"If we talk directly to Yuzuru Kazehaya maybe he can help us," one of the brothers says. "Everyone says he is a good man. The bad person is the one who he left in charge of his clan. That woman has been raising up our taxes and if we don't pay-"
"Yes, I know. She will come with an army and take everything," the other brother says. "But Yuzuru Kazehaya hasn't been seen ever since the Silent War and there is no way to contact him."
"Not only do we have to care about some demons, but about people too? What can our village do?"
Feeling sorry for the two brothers and the village, Tanjiro stops in the middle of the hall.
"Maybe, I can help."
.
.
.
It's already afternoon and the brothers decided to eat with Tanjiro while they talked. Tanjiro learned a couple of things. Gakoyama Village is not wealthy compared to others. They rely on the sale of rice to sustain themselves. The village is under the protection of the Kazehaya Clan and they are loyal to them. They were happy under their protection but recently taxes have been ridiculously hard to pay.
"If we don't pay by the end of this month Satsuki and her military men will come and take everything we have," Sato says, he is the older brother. "We've been trying to contact the head of the Kazehaya Clan but nothing."
"Satsuki?" Tanjiro asks as he takes a small sip of his tea.
"She's acting as head of the Kazehaya Clan while Yuzuru Kazehaya is away," Yuta, the youngest sibling, replies. "Apparently, the Ubiyashiki family sent him on a special mission. There has been no word of him since the Silent War."
"The Silent War? But it's been .. two years since then?"
"Kagaya Ubuyashiki requested Yuzuru Kazehaya to go after Muzan himself."
After hearing that name, Tanjiro tenses up. He puts his tea down.
"What?"
"Well, that's what the letter that was sent to us said," Sato looks over to his brother to seek some confirmation. "The one-wing dragon is probably the strongest swordsman on the mainland."
"One wing-dragon?"
"He only has one hand!" Yuta puts his right hand in front of Tanjiro's face in an exaggerated manner. "Everyone calls him that because his family comes from dragons, just like the Rengoku Clan."
"Rengoku Clan?" Tanjiro questions again.
"Don't you know anything about cultural knowledge boy?" Sato crosses his arms in front of his chest. "You didn't go to school?"
"No, I didn't," Tanjiro did go to school but stopped going the year his father passed away. He didn't have time to go since he had to take on his father's responsibilities. "My apologies, but I do know how to read and write!"
Sato looks at his brother who returns the look. They both feel ashamed for treating the boy as they did. Tanjiro's genuine smile did not help their guilt go away either.
"Alright, a quick history lesson about the five main clans on the mainland," Sato says happily as to try to help the young Demon Slayer. "Let's start with the Sakurai family."
"They don't own much land but they do own every single wisteria tree on the mainland," Yuta points at a painting on the wall that coincidently was a drawing of a wisteria tree. Tanjiro listens carefully.
"Wisteria trees cannot be planted nor be natured without someone from the Sakurai family. It was their ancestors who planted and raised every single wisteria tree in the country.
"It was recently announced that the heir of the Sakurai Clan and the heir of the Rengoku Clan will-"
"AAH!"
Tanjiro quickly stands up and picks up his sword. He looks outside and notices that it is dark already, the moon is up. Turning around, he looks at the two brothers.
"Please stay here, and if you can look over my wooden box," he goes towards the window, seeing that it was the closest exit. "Thank you so much in advance!"
The brothers couldn't even move as Tanjiro quickly left to fulfill his duty.
.
.
.
He is the main street where most of the businesses and houses are located. Thanks to his nose, Tanjiro can tell that a demon is around.
He spots it quickly and charges towards it. However, the demon noticed this. As soon as Tanjiro unleashes his sword, the demon puts his arm up, impacting it against the katana. There is no damage to his skin. It's as if the demon was made out of metal.
The demon has a cocky smile. The type that lets Tanjiro know he is in deep trouble. He jumps a few steps back, he can't get paranoid now. The young Demon Slayer takes a few moments to analyze his enemy.
Black hair, yellow eyes and sharp teeth. He wears blue loose pants, the ones used by martial artists. A white loose shirt that is tainted with red because of the blood.
Tanjiro can't tell much just by looking at him. He doesn't seem to use any weapons.
"Ah, a Demon Slayer," the demon says. "It's been a while since I've eaten one."
"Well, I hope I am the last one," Tanjiro puts a hand on his sword, ready to unleash it if the demon decides to attack.
"I doubt it, I've eaten many before you. What makes you think you will be any different?" His voice sounds mocking, a greedy smile decorates his face. This angers the demon slayer who quickly unleashes his black sword from the sheath.
"Don't underestimate me!" He is not too angry at the demon for questioning his skills but rather at the thought of him eating and killing many of his colleagues.
"Oh young boy, I am not," the demon starts to walk towards him, not a hint of fear but the contrary. "A good demon slayer would have attacked me by now. You are just wasting time, trying to see if I have any weak points."
The time is done. Now Tanjiro underestimated the demon, he is smart and he played along. Although Tanjiro had wished to have more time to analyze the demon, he had to do that while fighting.
"But guess what? I don't," the demon stops walking and smiles. "So will you come? Or should I come to you?"
They stare at each other's eyes for a few seconds and without any other plan or hesitation Tanjiro attacks.
Tanjiro lands an attack at the Demon's arm but it's like clashing with metal. It's something he had never encountered before. Usually, he is able to cut skin and the demon regenerates. But this time, nothing. He can't cut.
Suddenly, he feels a hand being put on his face. The demon's hand grabbed him and threw him across the street. He landed on his back on the road made of rocks. His back hurts but he quickly stands up.
He is already out of breath. Worst of all he didn't know what to do. Tanjiro tried to take a sniff and see if he could smell any sign of weakness. Nothing.
There is only one way he could win this battle and that's to wait until the sun comes out. Yes, it's already late enough, maybe one hour until sunrise. However, that won't solve the problem. The demon will probably see the sun and quickly run away and he will be too tired to run after him. Leaving him to hide and come back the next night. That's if the demon doesn't kill him sooner.
The demon quickly runs towards Tanjiro and once again throws a punch at him. Tanjiro moved his sword in front of his face to protect it but the impact was so strong that it made the katana slip out of his hands and fly away. Landing a few meters away from him.
He feels how the demon grabs his uniform's collar and with one movement he finds himself in the air and smack into the ground.
The demon slayer spits blood, something is probably broken. Breathing hurts.
"Now, what will you do?" the demon looks over at Tanjiro who slowly moves his head to look at his katana, so far away. Impossible to reach. The demon follows the direction he was looking.
"Swordmen rely too much on their swords," the demon says. "Take that away and they are nothing. I guess Akaza was right."
The demon sighs.
"What a disappointing fight," the demon steps on Tanjiro's chest, stopping him from moving although he is trying to break free. "I will never get to Akaza's level if I don't fight better foes."
The demon looks over at the horizon, the sun is coming out
"Shit, I didn't get to eat well," the demon then looks down at Tanjiro. "But I guess you will do."
The demon forms his hand into a fist and puts it up in the air. Taking a deep breath, he looks at Tanjiro's chest. He plans for this punch to end his life.
Hoping for his body to be strong enough, Tanjiro closes his eyes as he prepares for the impact.
But nothing happens. Instead, he feels something on his face. Tanjiro opens his eyes. The demon's hand is no longer there. Just blood pouring out of his arm. The demon looks as confused as him.
Tanjiro looks to the side and he finds a sword.
A sword that has a peculiar edge, made of what looks to be glass. It's transparent. A white handle with purple decorations. The sword pierced through a wood wall of a nearby house and along with it, the hand of the demon.
Tanjiro then picks up a scent.
Wisteria.
A woman came out of the woods. With a white haori, the ends of the fabric were cut so it looked like petals. Long hair, tied with a ribbon on the tips but not a single hair was out of place.
The demon slightly opens his mouth and as if forgetting about Tanjiro, he goes towards the woman. He attacks her and throws a blow into her face but the woman stops it with one hand.
She throws him into the ground.
The demon quickly looks up and finds the woman doing a familiar stand. Her feet are apart, a strong squat. Back straight. A hand is extended towards him. The perfect posture.
Akaza's form.
He feels fear for the first time but in his fear, he finds the courage to speak.
"Who are you?"
"Your skin is impossible to cut but you get weaker as the sun comes out," the woman relaxes and walks towards Tanjiro, ignoring the demon's question. "Once you get cut, you can't regenerate. That's your weakness. Were you aware of that?"
Tanjiro feels the woman's presence. He feels safe as when he is under a wisteria tree. He feels the woman's eyes on him, checking to see if he has any fatal injuries.
She then walks away and goes towards her sword. She takes it out from the wooden wall and looks at the demon again. He is now standing, still bleeding.
"Of course you did. That's why you don't use any weapons and rely on hand-to-hand combat," the woman then looks up. The sun will overtake the sky soon. "Not that it matters anymore. Die by my hand or by the sun. You can decide."
The demon smiles.
"I would love to fight you," the demon says. "But I can't win against the sun."
He turns around and quickly runs away at an incredible speed. As he thought he was safe from the woman, he felt something pierce his chest.
The demon falls to the ground, his body is paralyzed and it's a type of pain he can't describe.
He hears steps coming towards him and that's not what scared him but the wisteria scent that follows closely.
The sword is pulled out from his body and the demon turns to look at the woman who will kill him. The sun is now above her head. Complimenting one and the other.
"He wouldn't run away from the sun," the woman says.
The demon feels how his body slowly disappears. It's the end.
"You are right," the demon lets out one last smile. "He wouldn't run."
From far away, Tanjiro couldn't hear but saw a small conversation between the demon slayer and the demon. Almost too humane. After the demon's body disintegrates, the woman walks back towards him.
She bathes in the sunlight as her white haori moves with the wind. Her long hair is so beautiful that it shines with the light. She's elegant when she walks.
Just like a princess.
.
.
.
Tanjiro quickly opens his eyes as he hears his sister laugh. He finds himself in the same room he was with Sato and Yuta the night before.
His body hurts but it's not unbearable. Most importantly, he is more concerned about what or who had his sister's attention.
Nezuko was very comfortable playing with the woman who had saved his life. The woman looks like a princess and it's a demon slayer.
"Did you sleep well?" she asks. "You slept the whole day. Thankfully you didn't have any fatal injuries."
Tanjiro doesn't answer, too stunned to speak. He would think that the demon slayer would have attacked his sister by now. Instead, Nezuko was happily on the woman's lap.
"I apologize for my bad manners," the woman tries again. Without realizing that Tanjiro has now paid her attention, aware of her existence. "My name is-"
"The Wisteria Princess!" he speaks loudly, not hiding his excitement. Not like he knew much about her. Actually, he didn't know anything about her. But Nezuko liked her and she is nice to Nezuko, that's all that mattered.
"Well, not really but many call me that," she says. She smiles awkwardly, not really understanding how or when exactly people started calling her that. Maybe around a year ago. "I am sorry for getting here late. I was busy with another mission."
Nezuko cuddles into her lap even more as she plays with her hair.
"I was expecting to fight a demon but I was certainly not expecting to find such a cute one!"
The Wisteria Princess continues to play with little Nezuko and Tanjiro smiles at the warm scene.
"Are you not concerned?" Tanjiro asks, still surprised that a demon slayer was acting so kindly towards his sister.
"Mmm, I do have a lot of questions but she doesn't seem to have an interest in eating humans," she raises her arm and Nezuko hangs from it, moving back and forth as if it was a swing.
"I don't know if it's because of the high levels of wisteria in my skin."
Nezuko then lets go and goes running toward her older brother who embraces her.
"But then again she would want to eat you but she looks to care for you instead."
Tanjiro caresses his sister's hair and with shame, he looks at the Wisteria Princess.
"... Can you please not tell anyone else?"
"The Ubayashiki family will find out eventually," she says immediately and in a very professional manner.
"But until that happens, I'll try not to say anything. When they find out, I'll back you up. I am not a Hashira so I am not much of an influence but I do know a couple that can help."
"Thank you!" Tanjiro bows, showing his respect. "You are so understanding! Most would just agree to kill my sister."
"... Not all demons are evil," the Wisteria Princess says as she looks out the window. Its night time again and the moon is still beautiful. "Well, at least not entirely. I think."
Tanjiro looks at her. Her smell is pleasant, she smells like a safe place. But at the moment there is something sad about her he can't describe. A kind of sad she doesn't even know about.
"My apologies, I think I have overstayed my stay," she stands up and bows, an action Tanjiro found confusing. "I have a mission to complete."
"So soon? Don't you have a couple of days to rest?" He asks. "After all it was you who defeated the demon."
"I wasn't supposed to, I was just passing by and it was mere luck I arrived at the right time."
"... If it wasn't because of you, I would have failed."
The Wisteria Princess stops by the doors as she notices the young demon slayer look at the floor with disappointment.
"Hey, it's not bad to get help from others," she says. She's not the best at comforting or giving words of encouragement. There was a certain Hashira who could do better.
"It may be hard but it's good to rely on others and let others rely on you. We are all a team after all."
"You are right, thank you Ms ... Umm Ms?" Tanjiro stumbles a bit, which indicates The Wisteria Princess to step in.
"Oh, nice to meet you," you say. "My name is (Y/N)."
.
.
.
Weeks passed after that meeting. Tanjiro had met Muzan for the second time. He had fought what he thought was Lower Rank Five, the Spider-boy and his spider family. Now he has been taken into custody along with Nezuko and chaos had broken right in the Ubayashiki Estate.
Tanjiro is being held down by the Wind Hashira. He tries to break free but the strength of this man is something he can't fight against.
"Please don't hurt Nezuko! She hasn't hurt anyone nor ever will!"
"Shut up! Don't dare speak so loud in the house of The Master!" The Wind Hashira, Sanaemi Shinazugawa, leaves Tanjiro on the ground and walks towards the wooden box where Nezuko is inside. "There's only one way to prove what you say is true."
Sanemi Shinazugawa doesn't hesitate. He stabs the box. Tanjiro and everyone see blood coming out of it. Perplexed, Tanjiro can't speak. He waits for the box to be open and as Sanemi opens the door he finds a bleeding Nezuko
"Please stop! I can prove she's good!" Tanjiro pleads, desperate to save his sister who although is not fatally hurt, nothing can be guaranteed. "If you don't believe me ask the Wisteria Princess!"
Everyone stays quiet as they hear your nickname. Trying very hard not to look at Rengoku even when that's all they wanted to do.
"(Y/N) knew about this?" Sanemi asks. "She should be punished too!"
At that moment, Kagaya Ubayashiki walks outside of his premises, with his wife next to him. Everyone stops what they are doing and bow at his presence, on their knees.
Tanjiro feels at peace with his presence, something similar to yours. He smiles at him and then sits on his porch.
"Young Kamado, please do not hold any grudges against her but it was her duty to inform me," the head of the Ubuyashiki has a calm voice, matching his personality. "And because she told me to give your sister a chance ... that's why we are here."
Ubuyashiki then looks at Sanemi and he feels his eyes on him.
"So please, let's try to solve this in a non-violent way."
"I'll vouch for Nezuko."
Tanjiro quickly looks at his side, it was Mr. Tomioka who suddenly spoke.
"If she harms a single person, I'll give my life in exchange."
"Well, now I hope she harms someone," Sanemi says as he rolls his eyes. He never liked Tomioka.
"Sanaemi!" Shinobu calls him out while on her side Tengen laughs at the interaction.
"Very well, young Tanjiro, I'll allow your sister to accompany you in your mission," Ubuyashiki paused as he bowed and Tanjiro felt ashamed for screaming so loud in his presence. "Please make sure she uses her strength to protect others."
"I will!" Tanjiro screams out of excitement. "Thank you!"
"Well, now that that's settled, I would like to discuss a different matter," Ubuyashiki speaks again although his tone of voice now sounds a bit more serious. Tanjiro tries his best to sit while being tied down. He then sees a Kakushi close the box's door, keeping Nezuko safe inside.
"As all of you may know, I sent Yuzuru Kazehaya to locate Muzan. It's a job he has done ever since the end of the Silent War and we had kept steady communication. However, a couple of months ago, all letters stopped."
The Hashira look at each other in surprise, they haven't heard of Yuzuru in a while.
"Due to this and because I know of (Y/N) and Yuzuru's close relationship, I sent her to look for him. And I am afraid that she has gone missing too."
Everyone except Sanemi, tries their hardest not to look at Rengoku. Sanemi, just stares, looking for a reaction.
"The One Wing Dragon and the Wisteria Princess?" Tokito this time is the one to break the awkward silence. "Now that's unusual."
"Master, do you think Muzan might be involved in this?" Mitsuri asks.
"What do you think Tanjiro?" Kagaya Ubuyashiki turns to look at Tanjiro who sits on the ground. Still tied by his hands. "You have been the only one who has seen him in person, maybe you have some intel that can help us?"
"I don't know. There were a lot of people when I saw him and I couldn't do anything," Tanjiro remembers the time he saw Muzan, that time in Asakusa. "But Ms (y/n) was the first one to believe in Nezuko, so if you allow me, I would like to look for her and Mr. Kazehaya too!"
"If Muzan is involved in this, then are you prepared to die?" the Master asks. "You are strong Young Kamado but I don't think you are ready to face him alone."
"But-"
"And that's why I'll assign a Hashira to go with you," the Master takes a quick look at his subordinates and without much thinking, he knows who to ask. "Kyojuro, would you take on this mission along with young Kamado?"
"Yes Master, if that's what you wish," he quickly responds, no emotion in his voice.
"But do you wish to?"
"Yes."
"Very well then," Kagaya Ubuyashiki smiles, deep down he has other intentions. "You shall leave tomorrow morning and please write to me."
.
.
.
Tanjiro was sleeping peacefully in the guest room of the Ubuyashiki Estate.
Until he hears three knocks on his door. He sits on his bed and he sees how his door is being slid open. Two figures appear, holding a candle. Tanjiro recognizes them as the Sound and Insect Hashira.
"Yo Kamado!" The Sound Hashira comes in first and closes the door behind them after the Insect Hashira steps in. "Are you awake?"
"I am now," he says. "Is there something wrong, um Mr and Mrs?."
"I am Tengen Uzui, the Sound Hashira, and Protector of the Ninja Clans of the West and East" Tengen replies. "And this Shinobu Kochho, she's just the Insenct Hashira and doctor from time to time."
Shinobu really wanted to kick Tengen for her poor introduction but decided to leave that for next time.
"There's nothing wrong," Shinobu says as she places the candle on the floor. She sits on the tatami as Tengen follows. "We just wanted to ask you for a favor."
"How can I help you?" Tanjiro asks. He is not too fond of the Hashira at the moment, mostly for the way they wanted to kill Nezuko. Nonetheless, he knows it's better to keep them on his good side. If he can do them a favor, it will get him extra points with them.
"Well, Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, and (Y/N) have an interesting story together," Shinobu sounds kind, Tanjiro is more inclined towards her compared to the rest of the Hashira. Except for Mr. Tomioka. "We just wanted to ask you if you could keep us informed if you see anything umm ..."
"Peculiar," Tengen says and he has a burlesque voice, a confident one. It's very recognizable "Whatever you see between the two ... Please, make sure to send us a letter."
The request wasn't complicated but it implied many things. Tanjiro would be like a spy, he had to lie. More than anything, he can't comprehend the reasoning behind this request.
"Is Mr. Rengoku alright with this?" he asks as he rubs his right eye. His eyes are barely adjusting to the candlelight.
"Well, he is not supposed to know," Tengen throws a quick smile, hoping that it will help calm the situation.
"I don't know how I feel about that," Tanjiro now rubs his neck and Shinobu can quickly tell about his discomfort.
"We won't force you if you don't want to but-"
"You will see," Tengen interrupts and he stands up. He is too confident and Tanjiro doesn't know how to feel about it. Scared? Excited? How is Mr. Tengen so sure that he will do the job?
"And we know you will write to us."
"So just go and do what you have to do," Shinobu quickly stands up and follows Tengen. "Please find (y/n) and Yuzuru for us."
.
.
.
Tanjiro had woken up early and gotten ready for the mission.
"Young Kamado! I am Kyojuro Rengoku! I am excited to work alongside you!"
He had finally got to meet Rengoku Kyojuro, Second of his name, Heir to the Rengoku Clan and the Flame Hashira. Tanjiro didn't know much about him but about the things he heard from the Kakushi and the helpers in the kitchen. The Kakushi spoke about his strength and others talked about his kindness. Overall, he was well-respected by everyone.
"Let's work together and bring (Y/N) and Kazehaya back!"
The Flame Hashira is like the sun. His personality and even appearance remind Tanjiro about how good is to be good. He is easy to love and respect. But even so, with all that enthusiasm... Tanjiro can't help but feel that there is something sad about him. Deep deep down, he is surpresing that feeling. Tanjiro knows because he feels the same.
"Yes sir!" Tanjiro says with Nezuko on his wooden backpack. "I'll be in your care!"
After saying their goodbyes to everyone. Especially, Rengoku to the other Hashiras. They walk outside the Ubuyashiki Estate. Rengoku leads the way as Tanjiro walks behind him.
Only a few minutes had passed until Rengoku spoke up.
"So, you met (y/n)?" Rengoku asks. "It is said that the Wisteria Princess trained for three years at Mount Fujikasane, where demon slayers have their final selection. Trying to survive everyday and under an unknown teacher, she created her own breathing style. Did you get to see her fight?"
Rengoku suddenly brings you up. Tanjiro is behind him, watching him walk in front of him, he can't see his face. Even like that, he can tell it took courage to ask that question.
"Uh, yes, I did," Tanjiro responds. "But she didn't even use her sword. She used her strength alone to fight the demon."
"... How did she look like?" He asks again, his voice stumbles a little. "And I am asking because I haven't seen her in a very long time! And it's necessary for me to know so I can be on the lookout!"
Tanjiro did not understand why he was over-explaining. It wasn't necessary but he did not want to question it.
"She um, was wearing a white and purple haori. Black uniform, long hair-"
"Long hair?" Rengoku asks. There is excitement in his voice, a genuine tune. Not like the tune he uses to pretend he is happy. "How long?"
"Very long," Tanjiro responds, he finds his excitement to be heart-warming.
"Beautiful?"
"Like the moon."
Tanjiro takes a moment to look at the man in front of him. Tanjiro did not know much about the Flame Hashira but he made a few assumptions just by the way he talks and acts. He looks to be strong and proud. Such a confident man, so sure of himself.
"Did she by any chance ... talk about me?"
The question took Tanjiro by surprise.
"I am sorry?"
"Nothing!" Rengoku looks back at him and Tanjiro can see the embarrassment in his eyes. "My apologies, let's continue on the path ahead of us."
And just like that, for a second, Tanjiro sees the right hand of the Flame Hashira tremble. Was he scared? Anxious? No, he was nervous. The proud man, Rengoku Kyojuro was nervous to meet you once again.
"Mr. Rengoku, Do you have ... a particular interest in Ms. (Y/N)?"
Rengoku keeps walking in silence and for a moment Tanjiro thinks that he has successfully made The Flame Hashira angry or at least annoyed.
But then he hears Rengoku laugh, loudly and without shame.
"Me? Having an interest in (y/n)?" Rengoku asks sarcastically. "Please boy ... I am an engaged man."
