Pride Month
[Emlyn's pov]
"So it's pride month, you already know that, but you may not know that our school is celebrating it. Everyday is another gender or sexuality to celebrate. Today is lesbian pride day, and I just wanted-"
"I can't say that!" I groaned, cutting myself off. I have been working on this coming out speech for half an hour. I'm never going to get it done.
Maybe I'm overthinking it. I should just say it. Or maybe I'll bake a cake. Or-no, now you're overthinking it again. Just say it during dinner.
"Emlyn, dear, it's time for dinner" I heard Dad (that's Patton) yell. Great timing, Dad.
"I'm coming" I yelled, (get your mind out of the gutter) walking to the dining room. All four of my parents already there.
What if they think middle school is too young to know? Maybe I should turn tail and run. Or just not say anything at all. I can come out another day. No, no I can't do that. I can't keep her secret any longer.
I smile and sit down at my spot. Dad handing me my plate like it's any other night. We all start eating like it's any other night. Conversations happen like it's any other night. It's not any other goddamn night!
Calm down, Emlyn. It will be okay. What if they don't accept me though? What if they're disappointed with me? What if they don't believe me? What if they don't accept my girlfriend? What if they disapprove of everything?
"Emlyn!" Virgil said loudly, snapping his fingers in my face. That's one way to snap me out of my thoughts.
"Are you okay?" Roman asked me. I'm bit surprised he's asking me this considering I space out all the time.
"I'm okay, just spaced out" I answered. It's partially true, and he seems to accept it.
"So anyone got anything to share?"Dad asked. I wasn't sure if was trying to get attention away from me or change the topic, but he did, and I'm thankful.
Virgil shared an interesting incident at work, Logan complained about someone, Roman also complained about someone, and now it's my turn.
"Okay um, I have something really important to say. Like really, really important. I want to tell you guys that...I'm gay!"
Oh my lord, I actually did it. I came out. Why are there liquids falling out of my eyeballs?
I felt someone wipe them away and four pairs of arms wrapped around me. I think this means they're okay with it.
"So, got a girlfriend yet?" Virgil asked after the hug was over and everyone returned to their seats.
"Yeah, her name is Elise"
This two part series is determined to have no straight characters lol. Not that I have anything against straight people.
