Chapter 25

"What's wrong with you?" I ask my huffing best friend who just threw herself into the couch next to me.

"Friends, Meghan?" She asks. "You agreed to be friends with him?"

"I thought you liked Isaiah?" I think back to all the times she tried to talk about Isaiah and I's breakup being a misunderstanding. Yeah, she was definitely team Isaiah.

"I did." She says. "Until he found out you were having HIS baby and he walked away. And then he wants to act like everything is okay." She scowls. "Like he's not abandoning you or HIS child."

I cringe at how furious she sounds. "About that..." Her scowl turns into a frown.

"What...?" She questions slowly.

"I may or may not have left out the fact that a baby is his..." I squeeze my eyes shut and wait for her to respond. After a minute, I feel her jump of the couch.

"I thought you said he didn't want kids?" She whispers harshly.

My eyes snap open, I see her looking at me angrily and my eyes start to fill up with tears.

"He doesn't." I cry. "He doesn't want kids, that's why I didn't tell him!"

"Maybe he never thought about it." She says. "Maybe if he knows about this baby he'll open his mind to being a father. And maybe he won't, but that doesn't give you the right to not tell him."

She doesn't get it and I don't know how to show her. "What am I supposed to tell my child, that his father knew about him but didn't want him?" My voice breaks.

"Yes, Meghan, if that's the truth." I look away from her and wipe the tears falling down my cheeks. "Are you planning on telling your child that you never told his father about him?"

When I don't answer she scoffs.

"Well, please remember this conversion when this whole thing blows up in your face." She walks out of the room and I'm left alone with my thoughts.

———

"Students," Mrs. Adams announces. "When you hear your name please take a seat next to your parter. Alice McKinley with Troy Mercer. Clair Eamon with Nadia Athie. Amelia Evans with Ryan Bell.

I frown at Mia when she stands up, she frowns back and gathers up her books.

I zone out listening as Mrs. Adams continues announcing partners. I'm snapped back into reality when I hear my name. "-with Isaiah Hunt." Her finger points behind me. I turn and make eye contact with the dark haired boy behind me.

When I stand, he moves his bag from the seat next to him to the floor, giving me a place to sit.

Isaiah Hunt, our schools next up and coming basketball star. It's only his freshman year and there's already talk of him being captain by his junior- according to Johnathan. I don't know much about him, I've never talked to him; but, I have caught him looking at Mia and I a few times...

From the corner of my eye I see him start to write something, I can't help but watch as his bicep flexes.

"-Thursday?" My eyes find his and I realize he's waiting for an answer.

I blink. "I'm sorry, what?"

He chuckles. "I asked if you were available to meet on Thursday? For the project? It's the only day I'm out of practice early."

"Oh," His eyes watch as a tuck a piece of hair behind my ear. "Yeah, that works."

He blinks twice before clearing his throat. "Great, give me your number and we can work out the details later? I have to get to practice."

I take the pen he's holding out and write my number down in his notebook.

"I'll text you later." He says getting up, grabbing his notebook, and rushing out of the room.

*Thursday*

"Miss. Meghan," Our maid Marta walks into the kitchen. "I've shown the boy to the living room."

"Thanks Marta. You can go home now." I tell her, knowing it's her sons birthday. "I'll probably just order pizza for dinner."

"Are you sure?" She questions hesitantly.

"Yup, I'll see you tomorrow." I smile at her and head towards the living room.

Isaiah's standing there looking around.

"Hey."

He jumps, almost knocking over one of the vases my mom bought in France.

"Sorry," I cringe. "I didn't mean to scare you."

"You didn't scare me." He says, continuing to look around the room. "Your house is huge..."

"A huge house for one person." I mutter. It was something I never understood. Why did we need such a big house if I was pretty much the only person here?

"One person?" He questions. I hadn't meant for him to hear me. "What about your siblings? Parents?"

"I'm an only child. And I would actually be worried something was wrong if my parents were here for longer than a day."

Isaiah looks deep in thought for a minute before he asks me, "Are you will to go somewhere a twenty minute walk from here?"

"Um," I hesitate following a stranger to an unknown place. "I guess."

"Great," He smiles. "Grab your shoes."

Twenty minutes and a silent walk later were standing in front of a small house.

"Whose house is this?" I ask as we walk toward the front door.

"I don't know he shrugs and opens the front door. "I just like going into random people's houses."

I roll my eyes. " This is your house, isn't it?"

"Yup."  He walks through the front door and motions for me to follow. "Mom!" He shouts.

"Kitchen!" A feminine voice calls back.

"Come on." He grabs my hand and starts dragging me towards where I assume the kitchen is.

"Isaiah, honey, I thought you had to work on homework at your friends house?" When we walk into the kitchen were greeted by a woman's back and a heavenly scent.

"Yeah, I brought her over for dinner."

The woman spins around. "Oh!" She wipes her hands on a yellow apron. "Hi there, I'm Rita."

"Hi, I'm Meghan." I smile at her.

"Meghan?" She questions slowly and from the corner of my eye I see Isaiah stiffen.

"Yes?"

"Oh!" She blinks. "It's a pretty name."

I never really thought so... "Thank you?"

She glances at Isaiah quickly before looking at me. "Do you like tacos?"

"I love them!" I tell her.

"Great!" She turns back to what she's cooking in the stove.

"Isaiah brought a girl home!!!" A young boys voice rings and he runs through the kitchen. He looks like a small version of Isaiah.

"Isaiah and...." The boy, who looks to be a little younger than ten, pauses. "What's your name?"

Rita answers before I can. "It's Meghan."

"Oh!" He resumes running around the tiny kitchen. "Isaiah and Meghan sitting in a tree!"

"Okay, Ty, that's enough." Isaiah interrupts him as my cheeks start to heat up.

"-ing first comes love!"

Isaiah suddenly snatched the boy, threw him over his shoulder, and started jumping up and down. "I said enough!" The boy, Ty, starts laughing and Isaiah has a smile on her face.

"Brothers." Rita looks at me and laughs.

'This must be what family looks like.' I thought as I watched Rita stare loving at her two sons.

So this chapter was supposed to be up a few days ago but my stupid self deleted accidentally deleted it....

This chapter gives us a bit of a background on the start of Isaiah and Meghan's relationship.

What do we think? I'm not that big a fan of the ending, but I'm tired so this is what we're going with for now.
