Chapter 37

Hey guys. I know I haven't updated all week but something really traumatic happened, and I felt inclined to share it with you. I've been going through a lot of things lately especially with what has just happened.

So, I'm just going to say it:

I had to go back to school. I know, it's a very serious issue. No more late nights reading, or being able to update mostly every day of every week. It's just, hard, you know? Having to go back to a schedule.

Anyway, sorry if I made you think that something actually bad happened to me! In all honesty, I really love school. It's just waking up at 5:45 that's annoying. Anyway, sadly for these next few months until November I have Field Hockey practice everyday after school. By the time I get home and shower, eat, and do my homework I'm going to bed.

So my updating schedule will be on the weekends. I'll try to update After Effects, Stains, and Nightfall at least once over the weekend. Maybe if I have time I'll update more than once. But as of now, expect updates to be on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

I'll try to throw in a tiny update here and there, but don't expect them during the week. By the time Field Hockey is over, I'll be able to probably update during the week.

So yeah, sorry for not updating this week!!! I love you all, thanks for all the support!!! ;)

Dex:

I paced back and forth across my bedroom floor, every once in a while running a hand through my already spiked hair. My thoughts were racing, all over the place but about the same thing; Biana.

I couldn't believe she was--thought--in love with me? How could that be possible? I mean, I'm me?

I sighed as I tore through my hair again. The buzz of my importer interrupted my thoughts. Distracted, I glanced back over as I saw Biana's name flash on the screen, followed by a dozen other unread messages.

I went over to answer, but hesitated. I wasn't ready for that conversation. I didn't even know what I wanted, or thought anymore!

Then Sophie's name flashed across the screen, then Fitz, Tam's, and Linh's.

I guess it was safe to say I've been avoiding everyone for a good two days.

Then Sophie's voice flooded my room.

"Hey Dex, it's me, again. We all are really worried about you, so, just call me? Or Keefe? Fitz? Just--one of us. We miss you, and we're concerned. I just--call me back if you get this? Okay? Stay safe, we love you!

Call me, please?"

I then had a staring contest with my importer.

The importer won, and I may have buried it into the carpet.

Sophie:

"Hey," I heard Keefe whisper as he gave me a hug from behind. He gave me a peck on my cheek. "It's all going to be okay. He just needs some space right now."

"I know, but I can't help but worry about him," I sighed.

Keefe turned me around so I faced him and teased, "This isn't how we should be spending our six month anniversary."

I gave him a pointed look, "I know. But Dex--"

"I know," he said giving me a small smile, kissing my nose, making me scrunch it up and let out a little laugh.

"Come on, lets ring him again."

"Sophie," Keefe complained.

"What?" I asked sharply, hands on my hips.

He gave me a mischievous smirk.

"No," I said stepping away, with a pointed finger.

His smirk grew even wider as he stepped towards me.

"No, no Keefe," I couldn't keep a straight face, and a few giggles left my lips.

He ran towards me and I ended up on the other side of my bed. Keefe would slowly walk one way, and I'd walk the other way.

"Keefe," I laughed, feeling childish.

He didn't respond, except for the fact that his smirk only grew bigger; if possible. He faked left and then met me on the right, picking me up off the ground.

I let out a squeal of shock as I was suddenly hoisted over his shoulder.

"Keefe!" I exclaimed.

He didn't say anything.

"Keefe, if you don't put me down in two seconds, I'll scream for Grady. And then he'll mesmerize you into leaving me alone for the rest of my life," I threatened, trying not to laugh.

"Then that'd be your loss, Miss. Foster," he teased with a wink, and I scoffed.

"More like your loss," I mumbled, then commanded, "Put me down Keefe!"

"I don't think so, I'm not feeling very motivated. Persuade me, Foster," he laughed looking back up at me.

"If you don't put me down, you won't be standing in a few seconds," I threatened.

"Ah, talking about your inflicting abilities, I see. Good point, but if you do do that, you'll fall straight down and hurt yourself," he reasoned.

"I'll take my chances," I said, giving him a look.

He laughed but dropped me, and I landed on my bed bouncing twice from impact. I looked up and saw his playful blue eyes analyzing my face, making me grow hot.

"What are you doing?" I asked squirming under his gaze.

He gave me a cheesy smile and winked, "Memorizing a masterpiece."

I rolled my eyes and turned over. Then Keefe's arms encircled around my waist and flipped me back over.

I didn't fight back as he held my hands in his.

"I love you Sophie," he whispered, making my heart skip a beat.

"I love you too," I whispered as Keefe leaned in. I tilted my head forward, and my importer rang. Which caused Keefe and I to spring away from each other.

I ran over and saw Dex's name flash across the screen. Glancing back at Keefe, he nodded his head and I answered.

"Hey Sophie," he said giving me an awkward wave.

"You jerk! You really scared me! Are you okay? What's going on? How can I help? Do you still like--"

"Now I'm regretting hailing you," he teased.

"Dex," I warned, raising an eyebrow.

"I know, I know. I'm just, going through a lot right now. I don't know what to do or what to believe, and--" he stopped mid-sentence when Keefe walked over and sat by me. "And it's your six month anniversary. I'm so sorry! Gosh, Keefe's probably done something terrific and I'm completely ruining the mood! I'm a--"

"Good person," Keefe finished giving Dex a warm smile. "Hey, we all go through stuff, and we need you Dex. You won't believe how worried this one--" he paused pinching my side playfully causing me to swat his hand away, "was when she didn't see you in school."

"I was worried," I said defensively.

"I know, and it's one of the things I love about you," he said, kissing the top of my head.

"I should go--" Dex mumbled.

"NO!" Keefe and I both shouted at the same time. Dex's eyes widened in surprise.

"So, how's the whole Biana thing?" Keefe asked.

"Stressful. I overheard--"

"Her say that she loves you, Sophie told me," Keefe said.

"Does everyone--"

"Have to cut you off? Yes," I laughed, causing Dex to give me a joking glare.

"The more you hang out with him, the more you become the female version," he mumbled.

Keefe let out a chuckle, and I leaned back against his chest.

"Anyway, so spill the tea," I urged.

"Well, things have been stressful. I don't know if she's ready for a commitment, and I'm not sure I want to be involved with her again. She really destroyed my confidence. I just, I don't know if I can do it again. If I open back up, this time I won't be able to stop myself from falling in love with her. She'd completely destroy me, and not just my confidence. I don't think I could come out of that alive," he whispered.

"Dex--"

"He's right," Keefe spoke suddenly.

"What do you mean?" I asked incredulously.

"Well, if you take into consideration the fact that Dex gave part of himself to Biana and she completely destroyed that part because of other people's opinions, it makes sense to be afraid. Sophie, it's like how I love you. I love you enough to let you go, but the more I'm with you the more I fall in love with you. Which makes it harder for me to protect myself. In any moment you have the power to completely break my heart, and that's what Biana has already done. And probably would end up doing again if Dex isn't absolutely positive she can handle a relationship," he reasoned.

"Wait a second, this is a two way street. I gave you my heart, and you could just as easily destroy mine. I don't get your point," I said.

"I couldn't possibly break your heart Sophie," Keefe said.

I scoffed, "Wow. Say that to the boy who betrayed me to join the Neverseen, and then left me because you didn't want me to be 'tarnished' by society or whatever."

"That was different--"

"How so? It still hurt, and it broke me," I shrugged.

"Um guys--" Dex started.

"It was out of love," Keefe defended.

"Maybe Biana had her reasons to stay away from Dex. Maybe someone was threatening her or something," I said.

"Sophie, I would never do anything to hurt you, and Dex would never do anything to hurt Biana. However--"

"This whole thing is a two way street Keefe! You can't just say that only one of them screwed up! They both had to have done something to terminate things," I shouted, exasperated.

"Sophie, do you honestly think--"

"No, do you honestly think Dex didn't say something he shouldn't have to Biana? He obviously had to have exchanged some words with her!" I angrily huffed.

"That still doesn't change the fact that she completely destroyed his confidence by completely avoiding him in public," Keefe pointed out.

"Maybe she had a good reason!" I said, crossing my arms.

"Sophie, be sensible--"

"Don't tell me what to be!" I shouted.

"Guys, you should really calm down, this isn't helping anyone," Dex cut in.

"Once you realize that Biana wasn't innocent in this, I might not be around to say I told you so," Keefe huffed.

"I never said she was innocent. They both made mistakes! It wasn't just one sided, and it's ignorant of you to think that Dex did nothing wrong!" I reasoned.

"It's ignorant of you to think that Dex didn't react the way someone should when they find out the person they love is to embarrassed to be seen with them! This is entirely up to Biana to prove whether she wants to be with Dex or not!" Keefe said.

"I can't deal with this right now, and once you realize you're acting stupid I'll be here. Until then, don't talk to me," I angrily shouted, as I yanked my bedroom door open.

"Gladly, and I'll be patiently waiting for you to come back to your senses!" Keefe yelled.

I slammed the door on his retreating figure, and let out a frustrated shout.

"Well that escalated quickly," Dex muttered, and I gave him a glare.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have said that. And you both shouldn't be fighting about this. I shouldn't have called you, I've ruined everything--"

"No, don't talk like that. This is my fault, I shouldn't have yelled at him. That was irrational on my part, but it doesn't mean that I believe I'm wrong. I know he is, but until he owns his mistakes, I'm not giving him anytime of day. Anyway, back to the whole Biana situation. What does your heart say?" I asked.

"My heart once to be with her, but it also doesn't trust her," he said.

"What does your head say?" I asked.

"Basically to cut her out of my life. It'll only cause me more pain," he shrugged.

"You'll know what to do when the time comes, but you can't ignore her. You have to face the problem head on," I said.

"Maybe you should take your own advice with Keefe," Dex said giving me a look.

"I'm not ignoring him, I'm giving him the opportunity to own up to his mistakes. And when he does, I'll be here to apologize for yelling at him. He'll come around," I said, trying to reassure myself.

"Sophie, I really think you should talk to him," Dex said.

"He literally just left, I don't feel like getting into another screaming match right now," I said.

"Sophie, you shouldn't go to bed angry, or with regret," Dex said.

"I'll talk to him tomorrow, it'll be fine. See you tomorrow Dex, good luck with Biana," I yawned.

"Night Soph, but maybe hail him?"

"Night Dex," I said giving him a look.

"Yeah, yeah, night." He said, and ended the call.

I sighed, stretched, and once my head hit the pillow I was fast asleep.

A/N: Thanks for reading!!! Tomorrow I'll update Stains or Nightfall, maybe both!!! Anyway, thanks for reading!!!
