Chapter 17

A/N: ANOTHER UPDATE IN ONE DAY???? WHAT?!?! I know. See there is a crazy storm where I live and we were supposed to go to the mall to get ear rings for my dance recital. Cause, being the amazingly special person I am, I'm allergic to pretty much everything. Jk, I just have really sensitive skin and platinum, which is really expensive, doesn't irritate my skin and my mom talked to a jeweler and they said surgical steel is the cheaper way to go. Anyway, it started storming so I went home and was bored. I also felt like writing some SoKeefe cuteness and so yeah.

I'm updating for the third time today.

Sorry for that BORING LONG authors note.

FEW DAYS LATER:

Dad and Howie came to check up on me.

"You hungry, Soph?" Howie's little voice asked.

"Um, not really. Can I actually go out tonight? Some friends want--"

"Are you going on a date?" Dad asked crossing his arms.

My face got red and I was flustered, "Ah date? What? No! Okay, yes. I am. Only because mom said it would be a good idea to get to know the people on our lists!"

"Who is it?" He asked sternly.

"Um....a boy?" I said, but it came out more of a question.

"And his name?" He asked tapping his foot impatiently.

PLEASE SHOUT MY NAME! DAD'S GRILLING ME!

I telepathically screamed at mom.

I gave a big smile, and then I heard the angels sing.

"SOPHIE! COME DOWNSTAIRS! I NEED YOU!" Mom shouted.

"I better go get that," I said.

Dad grabbed my arm, "Not so fast! The boy's name?"

"SOPHIE!" Mom shouted.

"I'll tell you later, don't worry." I said quickly running down the stairs.

"So, who are you going on a date with?" My mom asked with a twinkle in her eye.

"Luis, my number one, actually asked me," I whispered to her.

"Luis...?" She trailed off.

"Councilor Bronte's nephew or something like that," I whispered.

"And you didn't tell Grady because....?"

"Well, I didn't want him to decapitate him yet."

"Smart, save that for the second date," she winked.

I rolled my eyes and let out a laugh.

"Would you help me get ready?" I asked shyly.

"I was waiting for you to ask!" She laughed as we ran upstairs.

~~~
"You should either wear the purple or the red dress," Mom said.
"Wait one sec, let me get Grady," Mom said.
"Why would you get him?" I hissed.
"Believe it or not, he has better fashion taste then me," mom said with a raise of her eyebrow.
Grady sighed and waltzed into the room, "So what do we have to work with?"
"Wear this one," Grady said.
Mom narrowed her eyes at him, "I know you don't want her to look pretty cause you don't like her growing up, but darling, we need your help. Red one or purple? And if you're difficult, it'll be a long hard night for you."
Grady gulped, "Red will be more comfortable."
"Thank you, now look who's being a good--"
"Don't say it--" Grady threatened.
"Gradypie!" Mom gushed.
Grady huffed out of the room mumbling, "This is the last time I help that woman with anything."
So I put on the red dress and mom put my hair up in a bun with a sparkly thingy.
"Thanks," I said.
I walked downstairs and Grady froze.
"This is why I didn't want to have kids," he mumbled.
"Grady!" Edaline scolded, playfully slapping him upside the head.
"You have my number on speed dial, right?" He asked nervously.
"Of course," I smiled giving him a hug.
"Why do they always grow up so fast?" He asked looking up.
"Because we can't stay young forever," I smiled.
"Yes you can, actually. I think I'll have Dex's dad make an elixar or something," He said with a smile.
"Now go have fun! Be safe!" Mom said with a smile.
"Wait! Who is this boy? I need to lay out ground rule-"
I shut the door and ran to the leap master.
~~~

I was waiting for Luis in Mysterium. Feeling self conscious, I crossed my arms in front of me.

I heard a gasp, and I turned around too fast tripping.

"Wow, easy there Foster," Keefe said holding me upright.

"K-Keefe? What are you doing here?" I asked astonished.

"Well, I was buying some new notebooks--wait what are you doing here?" He asked.

My heart sank to my toes, I didn't have the heart to tell him. I felt like I was cheating on him even if we weren't together.

"Um..." I said nervously.

Keefe looked down, "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

"I'm actually--"

I was cut off because right then and there Luis had to appear.

"Sophie! There you are! You look great," he said with a smile, giving me a hug.

Keefe's head snapped up and he looked back and forth between Luis and me. Realization in his eyes; he looked like a wounded animal.

"You look beautiful, Sophie," He said.

My heart skipped a beat because his voice was lower, and his intense stare broke my heart. But what really shattered it was the fact he didn't call me Foster.

He looked at Luis and put on a smile I knew was pained, "You two love birds stay safe? Alright? She's a great girl, you're very lucky!"

He gave Luis a pat on the back and hurried out of there. I felt like I was going to die. I couldn't believe how hurt he was. I didn't expect it, and mentally slapped myself. How could I not expect it? I wasn't even the one who told him! How much of a coward was I?

"Hey, you okay?" Luis asked.

I looked up at his green eyes with a smile, "Yeah. Now, where are we going?"

~~~
We were halfway through our meal when Luis' importer rang.
"Oh, sorry!" He said embarrassed.
"It's fine, do you need to take it?" I asked politely.
"Yeah, I'll be right back." He muttered as he walked towards the restroom.
I played with my food until he came back.
"I'm so sorry. Something came up, I have to go," he said.
"Oh, is everything all right?" I asked.
"Yeah. I just need to jet, bye!" He said running out of the room.
The waiter came by and I asked for the check and paid for it from my account of lusters.
I hurried out of there, kind of annoyed that Luis didn't even tell me why he was bailing. I sat on the edge of a fountain with my head in my hands.
It was a really crappy date. Luis was kind of awkward, and the thing with Keefe ruined my mood. I think he could tell. And then, right when it was getting better, he left!
I sound so selfish right now, but I guess I'm just disappointed.
Suddenly I felt cold liquid splayed against my back.
I whipped my head around to see Keefe, with his pants rolled up and his shoes and socks on the ground.
"Hey? Why are you so glum? Where's your date?" He asked sitting down next to me.
SOPHIE SITTING LIKE:
Keefe SITTING LIKE:
"He had to go," I said.
"Really? Did you at least finish your meal?" He asked.
"No, he left right when we got our food," I shrugged.
Keefe didn't say anything for a while.
"You know, I'm really sorry," I said trying to break the tension.
"For what? You didn't do anything wrong," he sighed running a hand through his hair.
"Yes, I didn't tell you. And I shouldn't have gone on the date anyway," I said.
"Don't do that. You shouldn't feel guilty going on a date with someone. You have to experience things for yourself, to know where you truly feel you belong," Keefe said staring at me.
"But I belong with you," I said looking up at him.
"You don't know that for sure," he said.
"But I think I do," I whispered.
"Please don't make me the reason you don't experience other things in life," he said.
"Why?" I asked.
"Cause I don't want to be in the way of you living your life. I want you to have the best life possible. You should be happy everyday, even when your mad or sad. Whether I'm in it or not, I want you to live your life to the fullest. So I want you to date other people, experience new things. Even though a selfish part of me," He trailed off looking away from me.
"What?" I asked my voice barely audible.
"Even if a selfish part of me wants you all to myself," he said. His icy blue eyes studying me.
My breath hitched in my throat. Crap, that was hot. What? I'm thinking--Grady would kill me if he heard my thoughts.
Keefe smirked and splashed water all in my face.
I let out a shriek of surprise and wiped the water out of my eyes.
"It's so on!" I said, using telekinesis to soak him.
"Using abilities? Not cool Foster!" He sputtered.
He picked me up and dunked me.
 I resurfaced and saw his blonde hair completely soaked. We heard some people yelling and Keefe pulled me up.
"What do we do now?" I asked.
"We run!" He shouted, taking my hand while we sprinted away.
Keefe pulled my around a corner as some officers ran past. Apparently it was unacceptable to play in fountains.
Keefe and I were breathing heavily and when we looked at each other we burst out in laughter.
"Did you see the one lady's face? She was so embarrassed! She even scolded her kids who asked if they could play too!" He said with a twinkle in his eye.
I shivered.
His face crumpled into one of concern, "Are you hurt?"
"Just cold," I said looking up at him.
"Butternut Squash!" He said.
"What?" I asked worriedly.
"I left my shoes!" He said laughing.
I laughed along.
"Come on, I want to show you something," he said grabbing my hand.
I followed him into the light pink beam of light.
~~~

We ended up in Keefe's room in Candelshade. My cheeks immediately blushed.

"Relax Foster," Keefe said with a chuckle as he put on his extra pair of shoes and socks.

"I should probably change shouldn't I?" He muttered to himself.

He started lifting up his shirt and I blushed furiously.

"You going to turn around Foster, or are you going to watch me undress?" He asked with a playful wiggle of his eyebrows.

I immediately turned around.

Keefe laughed and quickly changed.

"Here, you can change in the bathroom if you want," He said handing me one of his tunics.

"Okay," I muttered.

"I figured you wouldn't want to go where we're going in a wet dress," he said with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes, "Way to go Sherlock!"

I quickly changed into his blue tunic and I instantly smelled Keefe. I took a minute to inhale his scent. It smelled like wood and something I couldn't describe. It was simply Keefe. I smiled and opened up the door, smacking Keefe.

"Oh! Are you okay?" I asked quickly.

"Perfectly fine, thanks for asking," he winced.

I started laughing.

"Nice to know you find my pain amusing," he said.

I ignored him, "So where are you taking me?"

"It's a surprise," he said grabbing my hand.

I felt it tingle, and he pulled out a pathfinder. We walked through the blue sparkly light, and it felt cold.

~~~
We appeared in a meadow.  Keefe didn't let go of my hand the whole time.
"Wow, it's beautiful," I whispered.
"You haven't seen anything yet," he winked.
I looked at him and smiled.
He dropped my hand, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. He walked over to a circle of rocks and started chucking powder of all different kinds of colors and smells into it. Then he blew into it, and chucked a rock. The last thing he did was light a match and toss it into the circle.
Immediately it was a colorful fire, prettier then the fire Alden did after midterms.
Keefe sat down next to me, and put his arm around me. I laid my head on his shoulder, and closed my eyes; trying to calm my racing heart.
I opened my eyes and we just watched the fire. Horses were galloping and at one point I saw an alicorn the looked like Silveny.
"It's beautiful. How did you learn to do this?" I asked looking up at him.
He shrugged, "It was in one of my mom's books. Except it was for darker things. I just did the opposite."
I could feel his mood change when he told me it was for darker things.
"We rescued your mom," I said.
He looked down at me, his eyes alarmed.
"You did what?" He asked.
"We rescued her. The council asked me if I wanted to speak to her--"
"Did you? Did she say anything about me?" He asked.
"I didn't. I thought it was something you should do, and decide who you want to be there with you," I said looking back into the fire.
"They didn't," he sighed, "they didn't hurt her, did they?"
"I'm not sure," I said.
"Sometimes I don't know how to feel about her. Like I'm so angry at her, and I hate her so much. But, I just--"
"Keefe, it's your mom. You don't have to explain anything. I think we'd all be the same way about this. Actually, you're handling it better than I would've handled it," I said after pondering the issue.
He let out a dry laugh, "You're just saying that cause you're you. You probably wouldn't even care. Like you wouldn't let it bother you."
"That's so not true. You're stronger than you think Keefe," I said.
He turned his gaze to the fire.
"Just so you know, I wasn't really having a good time today until a very annoying blonde splashed water all over my dress," I said stealing a glance at him.
He was still looking at the fire, but he was trying not to smile.
"Are you sure he was annoying? Not handsome?" Keefe said.
"I'm sure. Then he got me involved with the splashing, and we were chased by officers! Can you believe he dragged me into that? I was soaking wet and quite cold, if you ask me. But then he took me to a very magical place. And he was really sweet cause he let me borrow some clothes, that I'm not sure I'll be giving back," I added.
Keefe was trying, and failing, to hide his smile.
"And then he creates this beautiful fire, and I'm amazed. However, he's being very unreasonable. Thinking he's pathetic when he's actually very brave. And now I'm feeding his ego and he still won't look at me and smile," I said bumping him with my shoulder playfully.
Keefe finally looked at me with a big smile.
"You're something else, you know that?" He said searching my eyes.
"I know," I said with a small smile.
Keefe, looked nervous and he quickly placed his hand on the side of my head and kissed me.
To say I was surprised was an understatement. And to make matters worse, once I realized what he did he pulled away, and stared at the fire again.
My eyes were wide and my jaw fell open. I looked at the fire and then back at him.
His cheeks had a pink tint to them and he had a small smile on his face like he just won the Olympics.
"So, when's your curfew?" He asked like nothing just happened.
I stared at him with my tongue poking my cheek.
"I can feel that you're annoyed," Keefe said with a smirk.
"You don't kiss a girl and then pretend nothing happened!" I said exasperated.
"It wasn't really a kiss, more like a peck," he shrugged. His eyes had an amusement in them that made me more annoyed.
I looked at the fire stubbornly.
"Aw, is Foster mad?" He asked in a sing song voice.
I looked at him with a cold gaze.
"How would you like me to make it up to you?" Keefe asked.
I didn't say anything but felt a smile making its way onto my face.
Before I could respond I felt my importer buzz.
"Dad's going to kill me!" I said standing up abruptly.
"Why? Is something wrong?" Keefe asked worriedly.
"I was supposed to be home an hour ago!" I said.
"Oh, well that's something to worry about," he said grabbing my dress.
"Thanks!" I said out of breath.
I turned to leap away, when Keefe grabbed my arm.
"Sophie, wait!" He said.
"What?" I asked.
He looked around nervously, "Don't be mad at me."
"Why would I be?" I asked.
"Cause of what I'm about to do," he said.
Keefe kissed me, longer than before, which was good--I think.
He wrapped his arms around my waist, and I put my arms around his neck.
He broke apart out of breath, cheeks flushed.
"Sorry I couldn't help but make you later," he winked.
I couldn't say or do anything except smile, and I couldn't really walk in a straight line. Fumbling with my home crystal, I finally entered the beam.
~~~~

"Where were you?" Grady asked immediately when I entered the room.

"I was--"

"Wait? Why aren't you wearing your dress?"

"Well--"

"Is this that boys? Don't tell me you two did the do!"

"No! We--"

"If I ever--"

"Grady! Let her finish!" Edaline scolded.

"Well, um, I'm sorry I was late," I said.

"Why were you late?" Grady asked crossing his arms.

"I got side tracked. I had a really good night and lost track of the time," I said.

Grady sighed and was about to bombard me with more questions.

"I think I've got this from here," Edaline said, ignoring Grady's shouts of refusal.

I ran up the steps into my room and jumped onto my bed.

"It was amazing!" I told her.

"What happened, tell me everything! And don't skimp out on the details," my mom smiled.

"Well, so the date with Luis was a disaster!" I said as I proceeded to tell her about seeing Keefe and then him having to leave.

"He made you pay?" Edaline asked astonished.

"He left pretty quickly," I shrugged.

"Well then why were you late?" She asked.

Then I told her about meeting Keefe, and she had a big grin on her face. I even told her about the kiss he gave me before I left, and I squealed a little bit. By me, I mean we did.

"Wow. That was quite the busy night you had. Now I'll just go tell your father," she said turning away.

"NO!" I immediately shouted.

"I'm kidding, jeez! I'm happy you felt comfortable enough to share that with me. You and Keefe are cute together. Now get some sleep!" She added as she shut my door.

I had the cheesiest grin on my face as I went to sleep.
