James
"The neighborhood is in peril as a terrible scene unfolds behind me. Local boy, Ben Hart was found murderer in his home early this morning. I am Rebecca Anderson with Local News. Stay tuned for updates after the break."
"Last week, I shared a story about local teen, Roslyn Walsh who is still the sole survivor of these terrifying attacks recently. Neither her nor her family have reached back to us with a comment yet. We are waiting patiently to hear back from them to get their story."
"I stand here in front of the home of the murdered teen. As you can see behind me, police are wheeling his body out of his home. A concerned neighbor called police when they heard the young boy scream inside his home just after five in the morning. As I said before, his death may be part of a recent string of murders tied to-"
I turn the tv off and shakes my head and turn to watch Roslyn sleep on my couch.
I sit beside her with my face in my hands. I am ashamed of what me and my family did to that poor boy.
After we discovered that Julie had killed the kid, we all had to take certain measures to make sure the police did not learn of our true identity and the fact that we are living somewhere close by.
My father took a knife from the kitchen and slit the boy's throat to cover the bite marks in his neck put there by Julie. It was gross and totally not morally right but we could not risk being caught.
Capture of my family would mean death for sure.
Roslyn stirs beside me before sitting herself up. "How's Julie?" She asks, rubbing her eyes.
"Chained up in the basement." I stand. "I feel terrible about it! My own sister, chained to the wall in that dark basement!"
"She didn't really give you a choice James." Roslyn throws her legs over the side of the couch and grips the cushion beneath her. "She's going on a killing spree. You had to stop her."
I nod. She is right but I still can not help but feel guilty for leaving her down there to scream for forgiveness.
"Have you figured out how to cure her yet?"
I shake my head. "There are ways, I'm just not sure my family is up for what it will cost."
"I could help you pay. I feel like this is my fault. Julie died because of me. I've got some savings that I would use."
"It's not that kind of a cost Ros," I sigh. "It's more like a sacrifice."
"A sacrifice?"
I take a deep breath. "You know how on Tv when someone tries to use magic they are always warned that there is a cost to use that magic?" I ask
"Yeah." She replies simply.
"We'll all of that is real. There is always a price to pay and it usually comes in the form of one life for another. Meaning to save Julie, someone else may become just like her. It could be me, you, Julie, my parents, or hell, even a random stranger. There is no way to tell who it will effect." I try my best to explain the complex world of witches and warlocks to her.
"Do magic is-" she shakes her head. "Real?"
"As real as you and me." I nod.
"Holy shit." She whispers under her breath.
"You're in love with a blood sucking vampire, have been attacked by a werewolf, and magic being real is where you draw the line?!"
Author's note: this chapter was so hard to write and I have no idea why. I have tons of ideas but putting them down and actually writing them is like pulling teeth!
