You know that feeling when everything is going right for so long and things are great but you just know everything is going to fall apart and you will be left in a million little, shattered pieces before you can even catch your breath?
Yeah. That is kind of where I am at right now.
Life right now is great. Ever since I took charge of my own destiny, things have been looking up. Things at home are great. We are all getting along great. My parents haven't been in any fights recently. They have lifted my curfew so I can go out at any time I want. I have so much freedom.
School is going well too. I am still attending classes online I order to finish school and graduate on time with the rest of my age group. I am passing every single class that I am in with flying colors. You're looking at a straight A student right here.
Things are great with my friends too. Jackie and I are closer than ever. She really is my best friend. The three of us have been absolutely inseparable in the last month.
And James- my heart skips a beat just by thinking about him. I can't say his name without it leaving a sweet taste on my tongue. I don't want to ever be without him. He and I are going steady despite his father's doubts. But even he has grown to the idea of James and I being in love.
You can not deny the connection that the two of us share.
But, things can't stay this well for too much longer, right? Everything is bound to fall apart in a matter of minutes. I mean, that's just how the universe works in my opinion. It lifts you up onto cloud nine and then rips the rug out from underneath you and suddenly, you are plummeting back down to the very solid earth.
But until that happens, I guess I'll stay up here.
James and I are in my hot tub on this cold, fall evening. It is pouring outside. But the rain is nice. We have all of the windows open in the sun room so we can enjoy the weather. The sound of the rain on the leaves is really calming. I love fall.
Out of nowhere, the rain picks up, pounding on the roof like softballs against a bat. A loud clap of thunder causes me to jump, startled. Lightning follows quickly after. James and I hop out of the tub and rush to close all of the windows because the rain is beginning to splash into the room. My feet slip and slide along the cold and wet tile floor.
Thunder rumbles again, bringing another bright flash of lightning along with it a few seconds later. The lifts flicker and then turn off completely. I scream in fear as a violent gust of wind blows a door open, hitting me in the shoulder.
James rushes to my side, grabbing on to me as I rub my shoulder. "It was just thunder Ros," James holds on tight to my hips.
"No," I sigh. I'm not concerned about the thunder. "The wind blew the door open and it hit me. I just- it's fine." I shrug.
The lights turn back on almost as quickly as they shut off. I take a breath of relief knowing we won't have to sit here in the dark for the rest of the night.
"Terrible weather we are having, isn't it?" A voice behind us asks. James and I turn around to see who is speaking. A familiar face stands in the doorway that blew open moments ago.
"Julie?" James asks, stepping closer to her as she stands drenched, just barely inside the room.
Author's note: what do you think? Is it really Julie?
