I leave my bedroom for a moment to grab a book I need to show Elise. My parents keep it in the basement in the boxes we have yet to unpack. Even in this short time away from Elise, I already feel myself missing her touch.

We have so much to catch up on.

Upstairs, a loud bang sets me on high alert. I stand still for a moment, listening for other suspicious noises. More violent crashing comes from the upstairs, making the ceiling above my head shake. Elise screams, the pitch piercing my brain. I rush up the steps to aid her in whatever she needs.

Inside my bedroom, I find Elise on the floor, sister on top of her. In Jackie's hand is a wooden stake, sharpened and ready to plunge through Elise's heart and kill her. Jackie is actively trying to stab Elise with the stake, determined to take her away from me.

Though a stake through the heart is a lot less permanent than a werewolf scratch to the skin, a wooden steak to the heart is still very dangerous to vampires. Until it is removed, my kind is as good as dead with that thing sticking in our hearts. If Jackie is successful, she will temporarily kill Elise. Then, all she has to do to end her life forever would to be rip her head off and destroy it. Otherwise, removing the stake could bring her back to life.

I have to stop her.

I lunge for my sister, trying to knock the large wooden stake out of her hands so that Elise is no longer in immediate danger. I really don't want her to die. I just got her back. Jackie grunts as I slam my body into her ribs. She rolls over onto the floor, slamming the back of her head onto the edge of one of my bookcases along the wall.

Though she was knocked over, her hand still grips the stake with a certain determination that will not easily be defeated. She is going to be harder to stop than I thought.

Elise leaps into the air, turning into the aggressor as she lands on top of my sister. I rush towards them, trying to put a quick end to this madness before anyone gets hurt.

I grab on to the stake as it comes into Elise's control. She fights against me, trying to do to Jackie what Jackie just did to her. "Woah woah!" I pull the stake, hoping to stop both of them. "There's no need to stab Jackie!"

"She tried to kill me!" Elise shouts, defending her actions as she continues to fight for control of the vampire-killing wood.

"And now you are trying to kill me!" Jackie reminds Elise that she is the aggressor now.

Seeing that neither of them are going to give up, I need to get more aggressive in my attempts to stop them. I insert my body between Elise and Jackie, hoping to create a wedge between them and force them apart.
