15. The new ones
The girl stood outside the school gate, thinking about what Mikey had told her. He's shifting schools so that they could be closer, even though Suzume had reminded him about the distance. The boy didn't really care. The girl highly doubted, he could get up in time for classes. And what a distraction it'll be not only for her but for everyone else to be in the same school as TOMAN's president.
She'd heard all about the stir in Mikey's school which he attends with Draken and Emma from his sister. The girl had complained how she can't make friends because she didn't know the real intentions about the people around her.
"How are the girls in your school?" Suzume had asked curiously because she knows how girls moon over them.
"They're popular of course, but you know how Mikey is...he's not interested in girls. He don't even acknowledge their existence." A sly smirk passed Emma's face, "his only focus is on his wifey after all."
Her thoughts were interrupted by Peh-yan, "Hime, what brings you here?"
"I'm here to meet Taka-chan."
"He's in Home Economics, and so is she."
"Ahhh," she puffed thinking about Yasuda.
"I can't stand her either," he muttered. "You want me to come with you?"
"I'm good." She checked her smartwatch, "Takemichi should be here any minute now."
As soon as she said that, she saw the boy jogging towards them. "Suzume-chan!" He was waving merrily. "Peh-yan? I didn't know you and Mitsuya go to the same middle school."
"Yeah, we're in the same school and in the same squad." The boy leaned forward, "you've a problem?"
"No!"
"We will see you tomorrow Peh," Suzume said gesturing Takemichi to follow her.
"Good luck with Yasuda!" The boy gave her a little salute as he walked away.
They stood outside the Home Economics room. "The only thing I dislike about Taka-chan is the vice-president of his club."
At that very moment the door slide open, "are you here to bother our president again?"
"I just can't stay without seeing him Yasuda! Don't you get it?"
"He's busy right now, so leave." The dark hair girl in braids said, trying to slide the door shut.
Suzume put her foot in to stop her from sliding it, "I don't think so."
Yasuda walked out of the room, and pointed at Takemichi, "and who's this funny looking clown! You don't have any girl friends Suzume? Why are you always around delinquents?"
"Delinquents love me, what can I say?"
Takemichi just stared at Yasuda, unable to process what's going on.
"What's going on?" Mitsuya appeared wearing the same peach coloured cardigan as Suzume.
"Suzume is here again with another delinquent!" Yasuda said annoyingly.
"Chill out, Yasuda! I told her to bring him."
The girl turned to him, "you're the only delinquent I don't hate, president."
"Because you've a crush on him," Suzume walked past her. Yasuda fumed. Every time she comes to meet Mitsuya this was inevitable, the girl was so obsessed over the silver-lilac hair boy that she'd always start a quarrel with Suzume because Suzume was the only girl Mitsuya pays attention to.
If only Yasuda knows that she and Mitsuya have a long history together, and out of all the boys he was her soulmate—she wasn't going to stop coming to see him because of a crazy girl, who Mitsuya doesn't even like.
"President, could you look at this for me?"
"Could you check in this too, president?"
"Give me a moment," Mitsuya excused himself as he went to take a look around.
"He's the president of the crafting club?" Takemichi was surprised. He's not the first. No one expects a captain of TOMAN to be a part of the crafting club.
"Yes and he's so good at it."
"He's in a gang but he handles his school life just as well. Mitsuya is amazing!"
"He's more than amazing!" Suzume said, if only the boy knew Mitsuya like she do.
The boy turned to her, "it's making more sense now why you said what you said back then, that he's your partner...you're even wearing the same matching cardigan."
"I'm lucky ain't I? I found all my boys in a gang. Including you."
"Me?" The boy was taken aback.
"Yes, Takemichi you dummy!"
"Hime," Mitsuya appeared before them. "Shall we?"
"Are you done with the final touches?"
"Yes."
Yasuda was literally throwing daggers with her eyes. "Can you shift schools next sem, I don't want to deal with Yasuda anymore!"
"I think she'll leave if I start dating."
"I'll date you to spite her." She crossed her arms.
"If that's the case you might make me fall in love with you...cos I don't know how to pretend."
"Oh, Taka-chan! You're a gem."
Takemichi cleared his throat, "let's not pretend to date or fall in love. Heh!"
They both laughed at the boy, "sure!"
"Anyway, for TOMAN our most formal wear is our gang uniform. And as a way to express our appreciation to you, Hime and I have personally worked on your uniform." The boy pulled out the paper bag from the drawer and handed it to Takemichi.
"It's the first since the founding members." Suzume said, remembering the golden days.
Takemichi was moved to tears, "thank you very much!" He bowed. "I'll cherish it forever."
"You gotta wear it for tomorrow's gathering." Mitsuya said. "Don't keep it locked in your closet."
"Drop by my place later if you want to adjust the size," Suzume told him. "And as tradition I've even put a little heart on it."
The boy sniffed, "thank you, thank you both." He bowed again.
⌛️⏳
"Hurry up Takemichi! I dread climbing these stairs but tonight you're like a snail!" Suzume huffed looking down at the boy who was steps below her.
"It feels kinda embarrassing."
"It's time for your debut and I'm not going to hold your hand tonight so you better man up."
Takemichi looked up at her blushing, "okay!"
The girl suppressed the urge to take off her muffler after climbing the stairs because even if she's feeling hot, she can't display her hickies. She should've concealed them with concealer like she always did but during winters, since she can wear a high neck or a muffler she doesn't take the trouble to do so. But right now, she was regretting the decision.
All the TOMAN members have gathered in their uniforms and when Takemichi appeared behind her in his new uniform, there were whispers all around.
"Doesn't suit you at all, huh." Draken commented as he saw Takemichi trailing behind Suzume, his face as red as a tomato.
"I know right? Totally feels like someone just dressed me up."
"You can thank me later."
"You need to keep Hime in your life," Draken teased. "You're not looking lame for once!"
Takemichi agreed with a nod, "Indeed."
"Where's Mikey?" Suzume asked as she fanned her face with her hands. The boy who'd put her in this situation on the first place.
"At his usual spot." Draken said as he moved towards the crowd and yelled, "the gathering will start!"
"Yes!" The crowd yelled.
"This gathering is gonna be an important one for you." She told Takemichi, "so prepare yourself!"
Mikey stood in front of the crowd, his trench coat flowing with the breeze. He'd lost his previous coat during Bloody Halloween so Suzume had to make him a new one. Hanma appeared behind Mikey in his Valhalla uniform.
"Valhalla?" Murmurs began to grow at the sight of the vice-president of Valhalla.
Before any of them could make sense of what's happening, Chifuyu came and stood besides Mikey. Tonight's gathering is going to be a rough one, the final settlement of bloody Halloween.
"Hey! Hey! Why is that guy here?"
"What is that bastard from Valhalla doing at TOMAN's gathering?"
The crowd murmured.
Takemichi looked at Suzume confused, "Chifuyu and Hanma with Mikey? What's going on."
"The bloody Halloween." Mikey spoke silencing the crowd, "Valhalla's 300 versus TOMAN's 150. Despite an overwhelming disadvantage, each one of you held your own and secured us victory. Shuji Hanma, the vice-president of the gang we defeated has a message for us."
Hanma stepped forward. "I'm Shuji Hanma from Valhalla. Valhalla never had a leader. So, in the wake of our defeat, we decided to join under TOMAN's banner. Valhalla will now join as part of TOMAN!"
"What? 300 guys from Valhalla are joining our gang?"
"So that means TOMAN has 450 guys now?"
"TOMAN rules. Just how much bigger are we going to get?"
"TOMAN rules!" Someone shouted.
"TOMAN! TOMAN!"
TOMAN! TOMAN!"
TOMAN! TOMAN!"
The crowd chanted but Takemichi was looking quite horrified at the announcement.
"As for this...there's someone who helped us connect. Thanks to him our gangs are able to join forces." Hanma said as the boy stepped forward. "Tetta Kisaki!"
The crowd clapped as Kisaki moved forward. Takemichi looked more horrified than ever, as his breathing became heavier.
"You okay?" Suzume asked the boy concerned.
"Yeah," he nodded but his face told another story, she can't understand the hatred Takemichi and Chifuyu have towards Kisaki. The boy might be bad but not as bad as Osanai portrayed him to be, Osanai might just be pointing his finger at Kisaki to feel better about himself. Because she knew Kisaki before any of this happened and the boy she knew back then wasn't evil.
"There one more thing to discuss!" Mikey said. "Though we gained something from Bloody Halloween...there's also something we lost." The boy looked sad. "Our First Division captain. Keisuke Baji, died that day. We must reflect deeply in this reality and take it seriously. You should say the rest. First Division vice-captain, Chifuyu Matsuno."
Chifuyu walked forward. "I was planning to quit TOMAN." He glanced at Suzume. "But someone stopped me, leading the First Division as Baji's replacement is too much for me. So after discussing it for days with our president, I arrived at this conclusion. I'll choose the guy that I wanna follow! Takemichi Hanagaki! I want you to be the next captain of the First Division!"
"Hanagaki?"
"No way, did he say Hanagaki?"
"That Hanagaki?"
The crowd murmured.
Takemichi turned to Suzume, "did you've any clue about this?"
Of course she knew. "Takemichi, we believe this is what Baji-san would've wanted. Bubba said that Baji entrusted this to you."
"Hanagaki Takemichi! Raise your head and give us your response!" Mikey yelled.
The boy just stood there unresponsive like he was hit by a bus. "You can do this, you're worthy, you were always worthy." Suzume whispered.
Finally, he raised up his head up tears rolling down his cheeks. "It is my pleasure to work with you!"
"There he goes crying again." Mitsuya grinned as he came and stood besides Suzume.
"Get yourself together," Peh-yan muttered at the sight. "Cry baby!"
Suzume grinned, "Takemichi you dummy! You raised your head too high."
Tears were streaming down Takemichi's face like a waterfall as wiped them away with his sleeves.
"Seems like we'll have to rework his uniform again."
"Oh Taka-chan! We're the fairy godmothers of TOMAN after all."
"You can say that again Hime." The boy chuckled, "and what's with the muffler?"
"I know its way too fuzzy for this weather but I left in a hurry okay?" Because she was wearing the fuzzy mufflers made for snowy days. Mitsuya got what she's talking about and didn't question her further.
Mikey moved towards her, a smug smirk plastered across his precious face. "Little sparrow is resembling a bunny tonight."
"Thanks to you."
"Always a pleasure." He put an arm around her, "wanna get out of here?"
"I want to go home and take a long warm bath."
"Can I come over?"
She and Mikey alone again, at this rate her hickies won't heal anytime soon. "But you must behave."
The boy placed a soft kiss on top of her head. "Okay!" That's a lie and they both knew it. She wants to sin every time she's with him.
