Alien Beauty
After the Wakelin men dropped off Lenore at school, they headed about eight miles north to where the car shop was. Wakelin Complete Auto Repair was a family business that the late Harold Wakelin began at the young age of twenty-five.
His young boys, Michael and Andy, would play at the shop after school so that their mother, a secretary, could run errands and tidy the house when her shift ended at the doctor's office.
Michael would find an empty and quiet corner and stuff his nose into a book. Andy loved books as well, especially when Michael, with his expressive and soothing voice, read them to him. Andy's boy heart belonged to cars, though.
Harold was impressed by the young boy's immense interest in how a car worked. Andy wanted to know what every single part and tool was called. He asked Harold how each part worked and what would happen if that part was broken or faulty. Though his countless questions were bothersome at times, Harold did his best to patiently teach Andy all he knew.
When Andy was old enough, his father let him assist with oil changes and tire repairs. He called out to Handy Andy for a tool he had misplaced, and as quick as lightning his youngest son would return with the tool in his hand and an eager smile on his face at the ready to assist and learn.
Michael was deemed a wiz kid in elementary school. Though literature held his upmost attention, Michael also excelled in science, history, and mathematics. Andy did not feel jealousy or anger towards his big brother's accomplishments. He truly looked up to him and often sought out his help when he was having a difficult time with homework or had a question about the world around him.
It was Michael, actually, that first brought attention and concern to his parents about Andy's troubles with reading. His brotherly love allowed Andy to get the proper tutelage he needed to overcome his dyslexia and help him further excel in his studies.
As summer was on its last legs, many of the local childless townspeople were possibly on last minute vacations, so there was a dip in business. Andy expected the parents with school-aged children would soon flood the shop in the upcoming weeks due to using their cars on a more frequent basis.
Andy, Jude, and Tyler Owens, a single parent Andy hired over a year ago, ran the shop together with great ease. Jude's excessive use of his cellphone often annoyed his uncle, causing an occasional flare of expletives and shouts, but usually things were pretty quiet around the shop, and the only sounds besides the power gun and clank of tools on the floor were the various tunes emitted from the speakers located behind the small guest service counter.
Tyler kept his cellphone in his pocket and only took it out if he had a call. He did not want to miss a call if it was from his daughter's daycare. Honestly, he had no reason to be endlessly checking his texts or searching and scrolling through any social media. He had a boisterous personality and loved to joke around with boys at the shop, but he led a very quiet personal life.
His days consisted of work and caring for his toddler daughter, Grace. When invited over to the Wakelin household for dinner or a beer, he kindly accepted, with sweet little Grace in tow.
"Have y'all ever imagined what the world would be like if aliens actually lived on our planet with us?" This sort of question was not out of the ordinary for Tyler at all. In fact, these questions really made slow days at the shop more fun and enjoyable.
"I don't know, man. That'd be pretty weird, and cool, too. I wonder what alien chicks would really look like..." Jude's voice trailed off, his mind often in the gutter. He began to pace at the front of the shop.
"Oh, man!" Tyler brought his fist to his grinning mouth. The slightest of dimples could be detected in his cheeks. His hazelnut skin contrasted his slate green eyes wonderfully. "Can you imagine what an alien woman could do with, like, four hands? Six hands?"
Uncle Andy knew where this conversation was heading. He was sitting at his small, yet sturdy, wooden desk that he had shoved into a corner behind the counter. He pushed back in his chair and propped his crossed feet on top of the desk.
"You boys wouldn't even know what to do with that much woman," he quipped whilst turning a page of Auto Trader.
"Nah, man. Alien chicks could, like, have sex with you only using their minds!" Tyler was getting very excited. He twisted his work rag in his hands. "It would be both a physical and mental experience. It would send you into such unknown bliss that you would return a very different man."
Andy looked up, his eyes amused. "Have you ever come close to that sort of connection with a human female, Tyler?"
"No, but I feel it in my bones that it would change me. Especially with a lady from outer space!"
"Don't you think that sort of feeling could be felt with someone of your own species?"
"I don't know, man," Tyler sat in one of the red customer chairs lined up against the wall closest to the front door. His shoulders slumped forward. "It's hard enough finding a real woman I like. On top of that, I have to make sure Gracie will like her, too."
"I'm certain you'll find one here on Earth." Andy gave him a wink and returned to his magazine.
Jude had already taken a seat near Tyler. He was looking down at his cellphone.
"Who is it today, Romeo?" Though Tyler was not particularly interested in Jude's lustlife, he enjoyed the conversation.
"Rachel. I met her a couple weeks ago at a party." Jude's eyes, which were a rich dark brown, widened as he spoke. "She's a junior in college. An animal in bed."
"How do you met these women? Like, just how, man?"
"They just come before me. Falling at my feet."
Tyler knew why girls flung themselves at Jude. It was purely physical. He had devilishly good looks and was the very definition of tall, dark and handsome. Surely, the tattoos only added to the attraction. The first was visible on the inside of his right forearm and the other one, covering his chest and left shoulder, could be seen peeking out of his work shirt's short sleeve.
The father in Tyler did not, however, understand why a woman would want to be with Jude. He most definitely did not want his Gracie to bring home a Jude one day in the future. He cringed at the thought of his baby girl being twisted around the finger of a dark charmer like him.
"Don't you ever want to fall in love, though?"
"Love is not what I'm looking for right now."
"Does Rachel know that? Do any of them know that?"
"Yes, they do," Jude shifted his weight in the chair and placed his unruly hair behind his ears. "Sometimes one or two might misunderstand what we have going on, but there's no real feelings hurt."
Tyler did not believe him, but he leaned closer, nonetheless, and asked for more details about Rachel.
"Boys, we have a customer," Andy popped up from his chair and shot a look at the boys to do the same. "Look alive, please." He ran his fingers through his hair and rubbed his rough face. He had forgotten to shave again this morning.
An elderly man entered the shop. Many regulars frequented the shop, but this man he had not seen before.
"Good morning, gentlemen! I hope I didn't interrupt any shenanigans!" The old man flicked his brows at the boys and then stepped up to the counter.
"What can we help you with today, sir?" Andy smiled.
"Well," said the man, as he took off his hat to reveal fluffy white hair and a hint of sunburn on his wrinkled forehead and nose. "My vehicle has developed the most peculiar of noises. I was a mechanic myself back in the day, and I have had a man in my town take a look at her, but I don't trust his instincts. I heard from a fishin' buddy of mine that this place does good work, so I figured I'd drive the extra miles to come see!"
"I am glad you've come here, sir. From one mechanic to another, I can assure you your vehicle will be treated with the very best of care." Andy motioned for the boys to follow him and the old man as they headed out the front door and towards the ailing car.
"Wow! She's a beauty!" Andy scanned the outline of the old man's bright white 1963 Studebaker Avanti. It looked like an angel in car form. He could feel himself salivate at the wondrous image before him.
"Thank you! It had always been my dream car. I finally was able to find one and purchased it just a few months ago."
Tyler and Jude walked around the car, studying it with awe. Jude had even slid his phone into his pocket.
Andy placed his hand on the old man's shoulder and put his other hand out. "My name is Andy Wakelin. Nice to meet you, sir. I admire a man with your taste."
The old man let out a pleased chuckle, "My name is Timothy Grant. Nice to meet you, too." He shook Andy's hand with great vigor.
After many compliments and having thoroughly inspected the exterior of the car, all four men assembled into a huddle and began troubleshooting what was going on inside of her to pain her so.
