Chapter 19: Alhaji Musa
A bullet whizzed through his brain like a thunderbolt, making his head burst into a thousand pieces. What remained of him was his tiny neck, bleeding like that of a chicken that has just been slaughtered. The reminant of his body was trembling on the floor, lifelessly.
Like a worm, half dead. Scorpion gasped from the dream and this time, he saw a slit on his throat. And again, he was bleeding.
'Oh God! When am I going to be out if all these?!' He cried mentally as he woke up into reality. Just then, he noticed it was daybreak.
"Hey! He's awake!" A sergeant muttered, waking towards him. He noticed blood dripping from Scorpion's neck at stared at him with weird looks. Scorpion gazed back to the ground, feeling shameful and guilty for his pasts. Although, he felt remorseful for all his wrongs and he's ready to pay or the consequences and tell all the truths, Scorpion wondered why the sergeant was staring at him like that.
"Get up, your attention is needed!" The sergeant uttered, unlocking the cell where scorpion had spent the night. His body was bruised and bleeding even without being tortured. Well, he was being tortured mentally and spiritually. The floor of the cell was wet and dirty, making scorpion's appearance look disgusting.
Walking out of the cell with handcuffed hands, his eyes finally met with Zainab. As if everything was slow motioned before him. He stared at her like a goddess. Someone he owed and can never repay. Someone he ruined, but what she did killed him entirely. And it's still eating him up... Meanwhile, Zainab didn't even know anything. She haven't even done anything. She's just an innocent girl with loads of challenges, who just clocked 16.
"Here he is." The sergeant finally introduced the girls to him.
With guilt written all over his face, Scorpion dropped to his knee. Everyone was surprised to see him how humble he was... And how humble he was ready to be. He wanted to confess and carry the cross of being guilty, bold chested. He turned to Zainab with water in his eyes.
"I'm so sorry, Zainab. I know I've hurt you for long. Since we've met, you haven't done anything good and right now, I need your forgiveness. I know I deserve all I'm going through right now but... All I want to hear is that you've forgiven me."
Humaira rolled her eyes at him, disgustingly. It was her first time of meeting the so called scorpion but all thanks to him, Zainab is affected with HIV. All thanks to him, Doctor Azeezah died and her children holds them responsible. All thanks to him Hadee is missing.
"Where's my son?!" Humaira spat at him. Shes been keeping quiet all these while not because she's stupid but because she's waiting for the perfect time. Now is the perfect time, the secret is exposed and we know the culprit.
"I'm asking you a question Mr. Scorpion or whatever you call yourself!" Humaira blurted out. "The boy you kidnapped, where's he?"
"I'm so sorry ma'am... I have no idea about where he is." Scorpion muttered in a low voice.
"Don't tell me that! You took a child from his mother and you're blabbing rubbish?! Officer! Are you even hearing this?!" She turned to the Sergeant. "Didn't you torture him overnight or what?! I'm going to deal with you myself if you don't tell me where he is?! Who sent you and why did you kidnap my son?!! Where is he!!!"
"He's somewhere in Ekiti but I don't know where exactly..." He confessed.
"Really?! So you're not going to tell me where you've taken my son huh?!" Humaira hissed at him, then turned to the sergeant.
"Where's Officer Bamidele? Isn't he back yet?" Confusion laced her eyes as she questioned the officers.
Just then, the major sergeant entered. He was tall and fair, the black police uniform fitted him so well. Officer James Adeyinka too is a well respected man. Diligent and hard-working, just like the D.P.O was. Scorpion stood up immediately he entered.
"Didn't you hear?" He cut into their conversation as everyone turned to him with puzzled faces.
"What happened?" Humaira asked.
"Officer Bamidele kicked the bucket last night. He got shot just on front of his house.
"What?! That's impossible!' Humaira blurted. "How come?"
"Ummm..." He stared at their shocked faces, not knowing how to continue. Zainab was already in tears. She knew the D.P.O would be the perfect person to handle Alhaji Musa.
At that moment, about a million butterflies pierched in Humaira's stomach as she couldn't believe what she just heard.
"Tell me what it is, officer James! Afterall nothing else would flow from my eyes if not tears!! How did he die? Who killed him? Talk to me officer James!!" Humaira cried in anger. Of course, she was very angry and pissed up. Officer Bamidele of all people got attacked. A flashback of their last visit played on her mind. She remembered vividly when he promised Alhaji Musa that if would knock him down if he's at fault. Officer Bamidele is one of the rarest police officer one can ever find. Too bad... He passed away.
"You need to calm down, madam. Everything would be brought to light. Right now, investigations are being carried out. There's bloodshed everywhere, it's no doubt that the person behind this is a deadly murderer... He must have targeted everything before hand." Officer James tried to explain as he himself was awed by all of these.
"Officer Bamidele is dead? I can't believe it, he called me yester-night and told me to come right away but I was way too stressed. I even replied him rudely for not handling this issue the way he should.” Humaira felt a whoosh out of her like someone kicked her stomach. She tried to digest the news but it was just so confusing. Clutching her head, she stared at Scorpion with anger burning in her eyes.
"You know about this right?" She asked him but he shivered. I didn't do anything I swear. I don't know anything about his death and I'm clueless about who's responsible." Scorpion explained, trying to clear himself. His heart was beating fast as he fought down the hysteria boiling inside of him.
Everyone wore a confused look.
"Then who killed him?" Zainab asked, dumpfounded.
"We don't know yet. There was only traces of blood but we didn't see the body of the suspect. Office Bamidele died with seven bullets on his body..."
"And how is that even possible? Someone must have planned for all of this. I have a feeling it's someone we know. Else, why is these happening all at once?" Humaira asked, wiping the tear drops on her face and holding Zainab closer.
It's no doubt that the unexpected death of the superintendent affected the girls. It would, definitely.
"Yes, I agree with you Humaira. He was attacked at right before he even entered his compound. Here's the video we got from the CCTV hanged outside the gate." Officer James retorted and connected his phone to the P.C, playing the video for everyone to see.
"Yes! That's him!" Zainab cried.
"Who?!"
"He's Mario, my college." Scorpion answered.
"Oh! I see..." Officer James muttered. "So you planned for this as well right?"
"No! No sir, trust me. I have no idea about any of these! We had no business with the D.P.O..."
"Okay fine, tell us now, who sent you?"
"I don't want to say it now. I want him here first before I expose him. I want to say everything in front of him."
"Who is he? I'm going to tell the constable to write your name with an iron rod if you don't speak up! For the last time, who sent you?!"
"It's Alhaji."
"Alhaji? Which Alhaji?!" He frowned
"A...alhaji Musa Adamu."
"What?!" Everyone started at themselves with blank faces. Zainab jerked up immediately. I said it! I told you Alhaji Musa was involved but no one believed. No proof no proof! Now you see?! We have proofs and a withness!"
Officer James, was confounded by what he just heard.
'Alhaji Musa acted so innocent the other day, who would have believed? And he's even aspiring to become a senator in the house of representatives. Who the hell would vote for a murderer! A killer! A peace destroyer to lead them? Too bad, people like these are in our society, holding high positions. ' he thought. It was really painful. Innocent people like Zainab and Humaira had to suffer in the hands of a wicked man like Alhaji Musa.
"Corporal Tosin! constable Nino!!" Officer James called.
"Two tall men in uniform appeared
Yes sir! The answered him, with their chest out.
"Follow me, we're going to arrest the C.E.O of COLFOLDS Company right away."
"Okay sir!" They answered and saluted before going out. They got into one of their patrol cars and zoomed off.
"So you don't know where my son is?" Humaira questioned scorpion.
"Yes ma'am. That evening, Alhaji Musa and Mario, my college took your son to Ekiti. I wasn't able to carry that task that day because I realized what I did was wrong. I know I've brought immeasurable tears and sadness into your lives. Please find a way to forgive me so my mind and soul would be at peace." Tears started pouring out of his eyes. He looked really emotional while saying it.
"What do you mean by that?!" Humaira questioned.
"I haven't been able to sleep. These past few days has been a hell for me. See my body... All briused and cut. I'm beaten from the dream almost every night and see the cut on my neck." He pointed, showing them all the marks on this body. Looking like a word map with many signs and designs. his skin was apparently deformed but that didn't lessen Humaira's anger for him whatsoever.
"I'm already suffering deeply, I regret ever doing wrong especially to people like you." He chocked in his own tears. Please forgive me, Zainab. I need to be free again. Just say you've forgiven me and I'll be alright!" He begged.
"Come on, let's go!" One of the sergents grabbed him by his arm as he stands up to his feet.
"What if I don't?" Zainab asked him. Looking at him face to face. Eye to eyes, staring at the monster that destroyed her like. To Zainab, he's no difference from Alhaji Musa. Birds of the same feather always finds a way to flock together. They worked together, they were the same thin; business partners.
"I'll be forever mistrable."
"Don't you deserve a miserable life?" She questioned him, anger lacing her feminine voice but it still sounded cute.
"I deserve more worse things, I know but just forgive me." He sounded remorseful as tears lingered down his cheeks.
Zainab rolled her eyes at him, thinking if the first time shed met him. During the attack... Zainab had gone through a lot but that was the worst day of her life.
"You know you had virus and you raped me. Your guys shit me on the keg that day, I wouldn't forget. I'm human, I can't forgive. Ask God for forgiveness because I hold no grudges against you. I hope time would heal all these memories for me. That would be possible only if Hadee is found again." She said to him as he burst into tears.
It was so painful, he wished he could turn the hands of time back, he would have taken better life decisions. Now, he had to learn the worst way.
Scorpion is the only one left. He has never been so remorseful about anything in his entire life. His mum got impregnated by one of her random boyfriends. He was probably a robber, he asked her to abort it but she kept him. After birth, she noticed she was having the virus which was hitting from the random guy that impregnated her.
Six months after his birth, Sandra, Simon's mother comitted sucide. She drank rat poison and handed herself to the ceiling. Meanwhile, Simon stayed with his aunt who took care of him like her own but he grew up to be a tout, just like his father was. Knowing that he had the virus, he hated his life so much. Imagine living as if life wasn't even meant for you.
Scorpion's plan was to get enough money and travel out of the country to live a better life and probably, get proper treatment. Alhaji Musa's plan was the last contract he planned to collect as he was already gathering the money, now this.
Puffing out hot, shimmering tears, scorpion was taking back into the cell. Later that day, he was transferred to the prison where he would wait to get his judgement in the court of law but there's also somebody missing...
Alhaji Musa.
