Later Than Expected
After many hours of changing my outfit multiple times, texting Emily about advice on how to act in Brett's house, my mom finally drives me to Brett's place.
His house is only a few blocks away from our school so he's luckily able to walk to and from school every day, but I have to be driven every day.
We arrive right around 4:55, and I wave goodbye to my mom as I step out of the passenger door of the car, and walk up the walkway to his front door.
I ring the bell and as I wait for the door to be opened, I notice there aren't any cars in the driveway.
Just as I also realize there is no garage, the door clicks open.
Brett stands in the doorway, wearing sweatpants and a baseball t-shirt, with no cap on.
I feel overdressed in my leggings and white cardigan.
"Wassup, Fee"?
I'm about to say something remarkably stupid when a voice from behind me shouts; "Turn around Fee"!
I turn around and am not able to cover my face in time before my mom takes a picture of me and Brett in the entryway of his house with her phone.
"Thanks sweetie, have a good time! And text me when you're ready to be picked up! Love you!" and she drives away.
"Sorry about her, she can get quite excited whenever she has an opportunity to practice posting on SnapChat or FaceBook".
"It's all good. Your mom uses SnapChat"?
"Yes. I regret letting my younger brother Jake introduce her to it. "
"I didn't know you had a brother".
A meow sounds from inside the house, and a small, petite, calico cat steps out from behind Brett's legs, "I didn't know you had a cat".
He smiles and leans down to scratch the cat behind its ears, "Her name's Lilia".
"Lila's a pretty name," I say, watching the cat roll onto her side and begin to pur.
"So is Felicity," Brett says, looking up at me, still smiling.
"Thank you," I say, blushing.
"Come on inside, it's just me and you. My parents are on a surprise date night".
"I was wondering why there weren't any cars in the driveway," I say, stepping past him into what appears to be the living room.
From the outside, his house seems small, but as he gives me a short tour, I discover a second floor, but no basement.
On the first floor is the kitchen, dining room, living room, and one bathroom.
On the second floor is his parents room, his room, another bathroom, and a guest room.
It's all very homey though, especially when he shows me his room.
His room is at the end of the hall.
I step inside and am met with red LED lights.
"So," I say, staring in wonder, taking in all of the posters on his walls of Jamie Miller, "You're the kind of person who keeps them on red"?
He chuckles; "Yeah, I am a pretty basic guy".
"You're not basic," I tell him, turning around to see his face illuminated in red, "You're one of a kind, and that's pretty special".
"You know, if there's anyone who should be called one of a kind, it's you, Fee".
I blush.
"Here, sit," he says, gesturing to his bed, and I blush again.
Sensing my hesitation, he smirks, and says; "I don't bite, if you haven't figured that out by now".
I smile and sit on the edge of his bed.
