Chapter 1
"No, Spessartine! That's not right, what's wrong with you!?" Serpentine slammed her fists down onto the creaky coffee table; Moonstone and Howlite thought she might break it.
"You might want to ask yourself that question." Spessartine glanced at the fists in front of her, then back up the rightful owner of them. "You're acting quite immature."
"ME!?" The green gem howled at the top of her lungs. "I didn't just make a plan to end Blue Diamond! She's done nothing wrong!"
"Serpentine, that's not what I-" Spessartine didn't get through her entire sentence before Moonstone involved herself.
"ENOUGH!" The silvery gem yelled, pounding the wooden table in half with her own hand. "This isn't getting us anywhere! There's no reason to make assumptions, Serpentine! Spessartine didn't mean it that way!" She twisted towards her orange friend, eyes wide, and blew some of her bangs out of her eyes. "And in Serpentine's defense, you could have made that sound better!"
"What is yelling going to do for anything?" The usually quiet Shadow Lace Agate spoke up from her spit on the couch.
"Nothing." Spessartine glared daggers at Moonstone, shunning her from existence. If looks could kill...
"Exactly!" Serpentine said, a little too energetically. Her tail lashed across the wooden floor.
"We have to at least meet with her, Moonstone." Shadow Agate looked up from the couch again, eyes still hidden, like always. There was a secret behind those eyes that only Moonstone knew. "She knows things we need to know."
"I know, Shadow." Moonstone face palmed, rubbing her temples irritatedly before pulling her hand away and staring down the black and grey gem. "But how? We have nothing she'd want."
"We have Steven." Adventurine said from her wall position, flipping a dagger from her finger, into the air, and back into her hand. "All the Diamonds want him. He's a hybrid, for Homeworld's sake!"
"No." Spessartine kept her voice calm, but it was clear the Golden-Orange gem was beginning to get upset with some of her companions.
"Spessartine, what else do we have?" Serpentine asked, fangs glittering when she opened her mouth. Her tongue slithered out a little, as if to intimidate Spessartine.
"Nothing, but I won't trade Steven." She mumbled, looking up at them with her one good eye. The other she was blind out of, because of course, it was no eye at all. It was her glimmering gem. "Talk about something that isn't right, Serpentine."
"Adventurine is correct..." Moonstone wanted to regret offering Steven up, but there wasn't anything else they had that she might want, and the only way she met with some lower class gem was if they had something for her.
"Moonstone, what!?" Howlite barked at her from her Lycan-like form. This is what she usually was in. "You love Steven, what are you doing?"
"What we have to." Moonstone said quietly. "What we need to do. He has little importance, as much ads I love him, compared to the information Blue Diamond holds within her mind. We must aquire this information for analysis."
"Thas' what I am talkin' about." Adventurine walked over to the table now, puffing out her long, wavu hair as she walked. "Moonstone, since when did ye' listen to sense?"
"Since you actually had an okay idea." Moonstone growled, staring with her uncovered eye at the sea green gem.
"That's not fair, I have good ideas all the time- "Adventurine began, her bright green eyes shimmering in the early morning light coming through the windows.
"Howlite, sniff Steven out." Moonstone ordered. Her orders were usually followed since she was considered the technical leader of their squad, even though there was no official leader.
"Yes ma'am." She used the human gesture of the salute, a gesture of utter respect, and lept to her paws and feet to pound after the human-gem hybrid boy.
Spessartine nodded off and walked into her temple room. "I'll have no part of this." She spoke as she walked in the room. Before closing the door, she said, "Steven is my friend. I do not betray friends."
Adventurine and Serpentine glanced at each other before summoning their weapons and following an already trailing Moonstone after Howlite.
Moonstone thumped across the ground after her dog-like friend, but stopped short and trailed off past a couple of bushes and shrubs before being absolutely sure of what she was hearing. A faint sobbing, like someone's mother or father had died for humans, or when a master has been shattered for a gem. However, this sobbing had a bit of an echo to it, meaning it was most likely a gem.
She watched out for most items she might trip over while she stepped over impounded roots, held captive by the police of the dirt. Moonstone was caught by the downing moonlight and flashed a great big smile at what she considered her existence. If it wasn't for the moon, she couldn't have been made.
The sobbing didn't stop as Moonstone neared it, rather got harder, as if he gem crying was anticipating getting crushed or shattered by someone or something. After a few more seconds, the silvery gem saw who was producing such harsh tears. The bright blue gemstone, with a little darker blue dress and hair, had her hands held up to her eyes with the light blue liquid flowing out of them. Her gem was placed between what a human would call her breastbones, shining brightly from both the tears falling onto it and the morning daybreak.
"Are you okay?" Moonstone spoke in a soft, gentle, caressing voice, as if she was afraid too harsh of wordss would shatter this gem themselves.
The gem jerked away from her sobbing and glared up at Moonstone, or at least, that's what the silvery gem thought she was doing, seeing that the blue gem's eyes were covered by her curly hair. She seemed scared of Moonstone, maybe expecting her to hurt her in some way.
"It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you." Moonstone held out her shimmering silver hand to the blue gem, a sign of peace and kindness among their race. "My name is Moonstone. Who might you be?"
The blue gem opened her mouth, only four really softly whispered words coming out of it. "You don't hurt me?"
"Of course not." Moonstone still had her soft voice, cooing to the poor gem like a human might call to its pet, but in a more kind way.
"I-i'm a Blue Pearl..." She reached out for Moonstone's hand, reaching it in about ten seconds, since she was frightful right now, making sure nothing on her hand would hurt her.
Moonstone took the Blue Pearl's hand in her own, gently pulling her into a soft embrace. "Don't be afraid. I won't let anything hurt you."
"Y-you don't know w-what you're saying, M-Moon..." The poor thing enveloped her arms around Moonstone, clinging to her for dear life.
"Yes I do." The silvery gem said, hugging her newly found friend back. "It's okay, nothing will get to you that is harmful..."
"Why me?" Blue Pearl spoke up, looking at Moonstone through her covered-up eyes. She assumed the new gem was not hostile, seeing as to the fact that she hadn't attempted anything harmful yet.
"What do you mean by that, Blue Pearl?" Moonstone wondered, moving to brush the bangs out of her eyes so that she could see them.
Blue Pearl gently pushed Moonstone's hand back down from the attempt, slaves weren't supposed to look an questionable master in the eyes. "There a-are millions more like m-me..." She spoke softly, another bright tear sliding down her silvery friend's back. "Why do y-you choose m-me to protect?"
"Because you are special." Moonstone answered, guiding Blue Pearl's hand to her shoulder, readying to pick her up and bring her back to the house.
"H-how?" Said the blue gem, and Moonstone figured the eyes behind all that hair to be wide with wonder, had the Diamond she served treated her as Yellow Diamond had treated herself? Hopefully not.
"You are an individual. Therefore, you are special in your own way. Who told you that you weren't special?" She asked, picking up the Blue Pearl bridal-style.
Blue Pearl yelped and wrapped her lithe arms around Moonstone's neck, and then realized once more she wasn't going to be harmed. "B-Blue Diamond..."
The entire way home was silent after those two words. Moonstone had abandoned Serpentine, Adventurine, and Howlite, but they were grown gems. They could take care of themselves. Blue Pearl's words still echoed in the silvery gem's head though. The Blue Pearl herself had layed her gently head on Moonstone's shoulder, and had fell asleep while she was walking.
'Blue Diamond' echoed once more and she cringed.
Maybe they shouldn't give Steven to her.
One thing was for sure though. The squad of gems had a serious talk to have altogether when they were in one place again.
And Blue Pearl would be a member of this talk.
