Our newest affiliates are a campaign designed to spread awareness of one of the lesser known mental health conditions, trichotillomania. The founder says:
'Hello there, I [@19upendi97] started this profile to bring awareness to this specific mental illness, Trichotillomania. It's the compulsive desire to pull your own hair out; head hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, facial hair, pubic hair and any other hair on your body. Well, in simple terms that's what it is.
Now, you probably came here because you were bored and I don't blame you. But those of you who have Trich or know someone who does, then you must understand where I'm coming from when I say that trichotillomania is not widely enough spread around the world. Feel free to talk right here, in a safe environment, about your Trichy journey or if you have someone that you want to help out but you don't know how to approach them, ask for advice right here.
I've been pulling my hair out since I was about 12 and I thought I was alone in my problem, I really did. It wasn't until my first year of college that I heard of Trichotillomania and that was 4/5 years after I'd started my battle with the illness. I don't want other people to be like me, where you feel alone and isolated in the world, with no one to talk to about your hair-pulling problems. Even if you have caring parents, it can be hard for them to grasp and accept, I know. My own parents get aggravated with me for it, telling me off, telling me about what I'm missing out on, all of that kind of stuff and it's completely horrible.
So, please, come and talk to me and anyone else that wants to stand up and talk about this growing problem. Send emails to [email protected], tweet with the #TalkTrichotillomania, keep up with the instagram account [https://www.instagram.com/trichytalking/] and, of course, use #TalkTrichotillomania on any story of your own that involves Trichotillomania!'
I really think this is a great campaign, and you should check it out, even if you are not affected by trich. It is something that affects me personally and it makes me happy to know that there is an official campaign dedicated to it - the more people that know about it, the better.
Thanks and LTAC!
