savannah's pov

i exited the airport, completely jet-lagged and expecting to see kendall waiting for me by her car, but i was a little surprised at who i saw instead.

"how was your flight?" max called out, leaning against his car with his arms folded. he lightly smirked at the confusion on my face as i came closer.

"it was good, but what are you doing here?" i asked in the nicest way possible.

"i wanted to the first one to hear all about your trip back home" he said and took my suitcase to place it in the trunk of the car.

he gestured for me to get into the passenger seat and i did so.

"so, where's jack?" max wondered, driving away from the sidewalk.

"oh, i just told him to stay and enjoy his holiday more".

he glanced over at me, "i bet it kind of sucks that work made you come back early, huh?".

"yeah, but i'll get over it. i'm actually quite excited for this whole fashion week season".

"me too, especially because you and i get to work together" max looked over and smiled, and i did the same until staring out of the window for the rest of the journey.

i bent down to the level of the car window once max had dropped me off at the apartment.

"i better go home to some peace and quiet for the weekend, before work on monday" he spoke with his hand gripped to the wheel.

i thought twice about my next words, before finally giving into blurting it out.

"hey, do you want to come inside for a bit? i've got a fridge full of beer, a cupboard full of snacks?".

a smirk settled on the corner of his lips, "i'm not very convinced, savannah. do you have a boxset of the office for us to binge watch?".

"max, you know i do" i rolled my eyes with a laugh and he chuckled at my reaction, whilst turning off the car then followed me into the lobby.

as soon as we reached the front door, i felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and i answered it, opening the door lock with the keys.

"hey baby, did you have a good flight?" jack asked.

"yeah, i did actually".

"good. so what are you doing right now? missing me already?" he smirked as i signalled for max to help himself to the kitchen.

"of course i am and i'm, uh, actually just hanging out with max" i told, leaving him silent over the phone for a few seconds.

"oh. at our place?".

i bit my lip, "yeah, he picked me up from the airport".

jack instantly scoffed at my words and i took a deep breathe.

"jack, i thought we were over this" i said, leaving the room to go somewhere private. "you trust me, don't you?".

"yes," he sighed. "i trust you".

"see, then you have nothing to worry about. we're just going to have a few drinks, eat, watch tv".

"okay, i'm sorry. i'll just talk to you later" jack spoke, though i was still not very convinced that he was okay with this.

"i love you" i told him.

"yeah, love you. bye" he hastily spoke and hung up the call straight away.

if jack trusts me, then he shouldn't be worried about me hanging out with a friend. i mean, if this was theo, he'd probably make a bunch of jokes about us hooking up and would laugh them off straight after.

i'm just still struggling to fully understand what he has against max.

multiple hours past of max and i hanging out on the couch with a bunch of junk food and empty drinks surrounding us.

i checked my phone, after i had just calmed down from laughing way too hard at max's unfunny joke.

"wow, is that the time?" i said, surprised that it was almost midnight. "i should really get this place cleaned up and go to bed".

i stood up and began collecting as much trash as i could hold in my two hands, before taking them into the kitchen.

"uh, savannah?" max said as i came back into the living room. "you don't mind if i crash here tonight? on the couch, obviously. it's just that i've been drinking and i don't think i can drive tonight".

i nodded my head, "yeah, i understand. that's fine. make yourself at home".

he smiled with a little relief, "okay, thanks. you're the best" max told me, then started helping me clear up the mess that we made.

not being able to sleep with a dry mouth, i got out of bed and made my way to the kitchen. but, i suddenly jumped when i reached the living room, seeing max standing in the dark by the window.

"oh my god, you scared me" i chuckled, holding onto my chest.

"sorry, i didn't mean to" he apologised. "turns out i couldn't sleep after all".

i lightly smiled and walked into the kitchen to grab us both a glass of water, then joined him to see what he was so focused on.

i looked down from the tall height, watching the few cars go by and the view of the river thames, with the london eye not far by.

"i kind of overheard your conversation with jack earlier," max mentioned. "he doesn't like me very much, does he? i mean, i don't want to cause any trouble between you two".

"you're not, and it's not that he doesn't like you. he's...he's just very over-protective".

he sipped his water, "really?".

"yeah, he'd be like this with any male friend that i had" i assured, continuing to look down at the briefly empty streets.

"but he's not with theo" max chuckled.

"i guess, that's only because he's known theo longer and you and i are much closer" i looked up at him as he let out a short grin.

"yeah. yeah, we are".

shortly after, i nudged his side, "so what happened between you and maya? are you two a thing or—".

max snickered, cutting me off, "if we were a thing, don't you think i'd be spending my friday night with her instead?".

"what? that's a lie. you know that i'm much more fun to hang out with" i argued, lightly hitting his arm.

"okay, i can't deny that. but maya and i texted for a while and went on a few coffee dates, but there was no spark, so i ended it".

i was quite shocked at what he was saying, since it seemed like they were getting along pretty well at the event.

"no! how comes?" i exclaimed and he shrugged his shoulders.

"we barely had anything in common, so our conversations didn't really last long" max explained. "my last relationship was quite messy, so this time i actually want to get it right".

he left to go and put his glass back into the kitchen.

"and you will" i assured. "come on, london is filled with beautiful women".

"but it's not just about her looks," i heard him come back as i payed attention to the night view. "i want someone that i can make laugh, someone i can ramble on to for hours about photography and they won't get bored,".

i could hear max's feet move closer, but i didn't take any notice of it until i started to feel his breath fan the back of my neck.

"someone who's smart, down to earth and passionate, someone who i can wake up and speak to at three in the morning about god-knows-what," he added.

i looked over my shoulder to face him slightly and even though it was dark, the outside lights allowed me to see his sight flicker from my eyes, then to my lips.

"just someone that i'm comfortable with and can connect with mentally, emotionally...and physically".

max whispered right into my ear, unintentionally sending chills down my spine. but my body froze as i felt his own pressing against me, alongside his hands resting onto my waist.

he bought his face a little closer, running his tongue over his lips, "just say no, if you want me to stop".

breathlessly, i shook my head at his words.

"stop or keep going?" max quietly inquired, moving his hands further around me and slowly aiming his lips towards mine.

thankfully, the ringtone of the home phone suddenly began to play and i quickly moved away from max, seeing the caller id as jack.

"jack, hey. babe, what's wrong?" i asked, finally being able to breathe and confused as to why he was calling me at this time.

"i'm sorry for calling at like three am your time, but i just wanted to hear your voice and you weren't answering your cell".

i lightly chuckled at jack's words, but probably came off as quite anxious as i watched max sit down on the couch.

"are you okay? you seem kind of shaken up?" jack questioned and i ran my fingers through my hair.

"no, i'm just a bit tired. that's all" i glanced at max, exchanging a blank expression. "so how is everyone else?".

i wondered, turning around with the phone to go back to my room.
