jack's pov
it was the middle of night. i sat up in bed, woken by the sound of savannah's voice coming from the living room.
i furrowed my brows in confusion, because after she begged me to "finish what i started", i hugged her in my arms until we both drifted into sleep.
getting out of bed, i rubbed my eyes and left through the bedroom door.
"...yeah, it was fun, we'll all have to do that again sometime".
i paused just at the end of the corridor - she was sat crossed-legged on the couch with her laptop open in front of her and with her phone to her ear.
i knew very well who she was talking to, i mean i'm not stupid, i just thought my little stunt earlier would put talking on the phone to max as her last priority.
she threw her head back a little with laughter, "...shut up, you're distracting me from this article now... with your terrible jokes, max".
i clenched my jaw and leant against the wall beside me, whilst i still listened closely to savannah's responses.
"no, i'm not admitting anything, max...okay, fine. yes, your jokes are very funny" savannah giggled, and i subtly rolled my eyes.
i ended up walking out from the corridor, and headed towards the kitchen for a glass of water.
"one second," savannah held the phone to her chest. "hey babe. sorry, did i wake you?".
"no" i bluntly replied.
"why are you up so late?".
i shrugged and leant against the kitchen counter, "i could ask you the same thing".
"well, i couldn't sleep and neither could max, so we just decided to finish that article".
i took a long sip of my drink, "really? doesn't look like it".
savannah started to chuckle.
"max is kind of distracting me. he just keeps telling me these jokes..." she spoke in between laughter. "i mean, you have to hear them".
i continued to stand by the sink, growing exasperated until i finished the remains of my water.
"yeah, maybe another time" i put the glass in the sink and pulled my hands through my hair, as i started walking back towards the bedroom.
although, i paused before i exited the living room. "savs, can i ask you something?".
"yeah, what is it?" she held the phone to her chest again.
"you're never afraid to tell me stuff sometimes, are you?".
she cocked her head back slightly and furrowed her brows, "what? no. why? what gave you that idea?".
i shook my head and scratched my neck, "nothing. i was just thinking, any ways, goodnight" i said, turning around and going back to bed.

the next day, i buttoned up my white short-sleeved shirt and brushed my hair, before glancing at the clock through the mirror.
it was just after six pm and i was getting ready to go out for a dinner that savannah and i suggested to do this morning.
we both been pretty caught up in our jobs lately and tonight will just be about us relaxing and enjoying each other's company as much as we can without any interruptions.
the reservation is at half seven, and it's now almost an hour later than savannah's usual after work time.
i patted on some cologne, then sat on the bed to select her number in my contacts list. i waited patiently for the call to be answered, but it soon reached her voicemail.
i tried calling her one last time, but the sound of her voicemail appeared again so i switched to my messages and sent her a text;
we're still on for tonight right?
the reservation is at 7:30 and i know how long you take to make yourself look more beautiful than you already are
call me so i know you're okay
love you
i settled my phone back down and concluded that savannah's most likely stuck in the central london traffic and her phone's probably on silent in her bag.
savannah's pov
since we decided to stay after hours and write up new article ideas, kendall, max, theo and i were all in one of the small conference rooms.
technically kendall and i were the ones working and max and theo had nothing better to do tonight.
so, they stayed and immaturely challenged to throw small food in their mouths at the front of the room.
kendall finished jotting down points on her notebook then looked up at me.
"so there's an alexander mcqueen show next week and i heard that the new clothing line is really controversial, so we definitely need to-".
"okay, i bet that i can catch fifteen popcorns in my mouth, in a row" theo loudly interrupted.
"deal, how much?" max asked.
i settled my pen down and groaned lightly, "guys, we're trying to work here".
"yeah, what are you two even still doing here? none of this concerns you" kendall added.
"as you should know, savannah and i are a team" max corrected, coming over to stand by my chair. "she writes, i take the photos, so you should really be informing me on your little ideas".
"alright max, i bet five pounds" theo nudged max's arm and showed him a five pound note.
max stuck his hands into his pocket and took out a few pound coins, "okay, i bet £8 that you can't".
"you two are so childish" i giggled, shaking my head. "it's incredibly hard to believe that you're both twenty-four".
theo pointed his finger at me, "hey, there's nothing wrong with being a child at heart" he said, causing me to roll my eyes and concentrate back on writing.
after thirty minutes of brainstorming, kendall and i had lists of ideas and the guys were all tired out since most of the popcorn ended up all over the floor.
"okay, that's enough work for me today" kendall shut her notebook and stood up. "i'm tired and ready to just take a hot bath and get in bed".
"aw come on, we were on a roll" i pouted as she packed her things away. "twenty more minutes".
"nope, i don't know if you're used to doing extra late hours back in la but here, it's not normal savannah" she told me and i chuckled at how right she was.
theo checked the watch, "yeah, i better start heading home too. issy must be missing me like crazy" he said, referring to his beagle dog.
kendall took her bag and placed her coat on her arm, as theo pulled on his jacket before they headed to the door.
"max, you coming?" theo questioned.
"no, i think i'm just gonna stay back and hang out with savannah" he said, then turned to me. "if that's okay with you?".
i nodded my head, "yeah, it's fine with me".
"okay, i'll catch you kids in the morning" theo called out.
"bye" kendall said, and theo and i simultaneously said it back.
i went back to writing on my notebook and planning out more articles without the help of kendall.
i bit on my pen as i thought of what to write next, but max suddenly came and leant over me, resting his hands on the wooden table.
"wow, it seems like you've got a pretty good system going on here" he told.
"oh, i'm just someone who prefers to be absolutely organised" i shrugged and he sat up on the table. "whereas for kendall, not so much".
"no, i get what you mean though. planning ahead makes the main task much more easier to get through" he elaborated and i looked up at him with a smile.
"exactly, at least someone gets it".
whilst i focused my attention back on my work, as if on cue, american by lana del rey started to play on the radio that we were all listening to.
"wow, i used to love this song" i mentioned to max as i continued writing.
"really?".
i nodded my head and tucked my hair behind my ear, "it was one of mine and my best friend back home's favourite songs a few years back".
"oh. well, in that case" max stood from the table and held out his hand, but i creased my eyebrows and shook my head.
"i don't dance, remember?".
he smirked, "neither do i. but come on, you need to take a break and plus it's slow dancing, how hard can it be?".
i stared up at him as he still held his hand out for me, but i soon gave in with chuckle and took it as he led me to the front of the room.
he rested his left hand on my waist, his right in mine and i placed my other hand on his shoulder.
we began swaying side to side to every slow beat of the song, as max eventually let out a smile.
"see, it's not that bad" he said.
"yeah, yeah".
max surprisingly twisted me out from him, still hand in hand - we both laughed at his actions, until he lifted his hand up to let me twirl around then bought me back to him.
"where did you learn to move like that?" i wondered, whilst we danced side to side again.
"when i was ten, my mom signed me up for ballroom dancing" he admitted and i snickered before covering my mouth.
"it's not funny! we had a performance to do, i ended up falling over a girl's dress and after that, i vowed to never dance again" max explained, just before he dipped me down then bought me back up.
"but you haven't really done a good job at keeping that, since you're dancing right now".
he shrugged his shoulders, "for you, i'd make an exception".
i smiled at words as he repeated his actions all over again, until he twisted me out then bought me back in closer than before.
max suddenly stopped leading us side to side. he just stared at the minimal space between us, as i looked up at his tall height and he focused his eyes on mine.
the song wasn't even over, so i wondered why he'd stopped dancing. but i couldn't help but hold my breath as max lowered his eyes at me.
i tensed up once he lifted the hand on my waist and brushed my hair away from my cheek to let him settle his hand there.
i hadn't even managed to exhale yet, but max gently stroked his thumb against my cheek and gradually began to lean in.
