savannah's pov

i came downstairs in my pyjamas to the warm smell of breakfast cooking. letting out a yawn, i walked into the kitchen, where i could hear everyone talking and eating.

i sat myself down at the island bar beside lauren, and of course, opposite jack. we both happened to make eye contact, but he was quick to look away and focus back down on his phone.

i probably shouldn't have reacted the way i did last night, i was being harsh. but i've tried so hard to let go of my feelings for jack, like incredibly hard, and it was working perfectly.

but him asking if i loved tristan just caught me off guard and made me realise that i have no clue of where my relationship with tristan is heading.

"hey savannah, do you want some eggs?" johnson asked, frying some breakfast in a pan.

"yeah, sure" i agreed, pouring myself some orange juice.

"where's tristan?" lauren questioned.

"he went out for a quick run" i said.

"and suddenly, i'm less excited to eat this now" zayn stated as he sat with a large plate of pancakes that were covered in an excessive amount of chocolate syrup.

sammy scoffed, "i'm not".

he rubbed his hands together to take the plate for himself, but i laughed at how quick zayn was to swat his hand away.

after a while, i realised that i chose the worst place to sit since i had no choice, but to stare ahead which was also in the direction of jack.

i just need to talk to him. i feel as though we both deserve to give one another some explanations and a chance to set things straight.

as i sipped on my orange juice, lauren started ranting to me about something that happened at her work the other day.

but i managed to zone out and watched jack stand from his seat to place his glass in the sink. he hardly looked up from his phone the entire time and continued to, as he walked towards the backdoors to go out on the deck.

"...yes, but of course jack's ass has something more important to say, so i'll just let it finish" lauren spoke, catching me off guard. i shook my head to snap out of my reverie.

"sorry, what? no, i was listening" i turned to her to give my undivided attention.

"you were staring at jack" she stated with a small chuckle in her voice.

"you were" sammy agreed.

"yep" nate added.

"i saw it too" johnson spoke up.

"same" zayn also commented.

"okay. no, you all didn't" i complained. "and johnson, you were too busy making eggs to even see anything".

"yeah, your eggs" he handed me my breakfast on a plate and i thanked him, before i started eating in hope that everyone would drop what they saw.

finishing my food, i slid myself back and jumped down from the bar chair. i needed to get something out from jack and i won't stop fidgeting and stressing about it all until i do.

i pulled open the doors, seeing jack working out on the deck. he settled down the two heavy dumbbells he was just using and started doing push ups. i could tell that he was choosing to not acknowledge that i was here, and walking towards him.

i stood just by his hands and took a small breathe.

"last night, why did you ask me if i loved tristan?" i asked him, fiddling with my fingers.

jack continued to do push ups at my feet as i waited patiently for a response.

"i already told you, savs" he replied. "i was just wondering".

he should really know by now that i would have never taken that as a final answer.

"that's not something that you just wonder, jack....especially with our history" i said.

he rose up from the ground with creased brows, sweat laced on his forehead and his chest rising, "well, i did".

jack circled around me to move on to the punching bag that the boys managed to have installed at the back.

i followed to stand by his side, "but i'm not taking that as—".

"what do you want from me, savannah?" jack paused his fists and breathlessly held onto the bag. he quickly ran his tongue over his lips.

"the truth".

"the truth? well, then why don't we start with you, because you never gave me an answer last night?" he insisted in between a few breathes.

i bit down on my bottom lip, "...you first".

jack exhaled gently, "i only asked you because i—".

as if on cue, the back door slid open and tristan came outside.

"there you are, babe" he spoke. his shirtless torso was glowing with sweat, as he removed his headphones and rested them around his neck.

i sighed and rubbed my neck, "hey, uh, how was your run?".

"great, you should have come along" he told.

"maybe next time" i responded.

jack started punching at the bag once again, paying close attention to every move he made.

"hey jack" tristan greeted.

"hey" he bluntly said back.

"savannah, have you had a shower yet?" tristan questioned.

"no, not yet".

"well, i'm getting in there so i was thinking we could, you know".

jack's pace against the punching bag grew faster that i was surprised it was even still standing.

"sure" i reluctantly said to tristan. "i'll just meet you up there".

he grinned, "okay, i'll be waiting".

he turned to go back inside and finally allowed jack and i to continue our conversation.

"so, what were you saying?" i asked whilst he carried on punching the bag much more aggressively.

"doesn't matter" he told me, taking less interest now. "just go to him, savs".

i dropped my shoulders and opened my lips as if i was about to say something. jack didn't notice, so i just decided to hold myself back and go inside the house.

jack's pov

i came back inside the house after finishing my work out and walked into a great amount of bickering in the living room over what movie to watch.

i leant against the door frame, listening and laughing at their arguments.

"for the last time, lauren. we're not watching the notebook again" nate complained, holding his fingertips against his temples.

"the notebook is a classic" savannah defended.

"the notebook is boring, you two only like it because of gosling's shirtless scenes" nate added.

"why would lauren care about that when she has me?" zayn winked at her and the rest of us smirked and chuckled, leaving zayn completely offended.

johnson sighed after controlling his laugh and looked at me, "bro, what movie should we watch?".

i shrugged, "i don't mind, but give me a sec because i'm gonna take a shower".

"while you're up there, tell tristan to come down too, these business calls are getting ridiculous!" sammy exclaimed as i was leaving the room.

i hurried upstairs, taking two steps at time because i was in desperate need of a warm shower to relax my burned muscles.

heading to my room, i happened to freeze just outside savannah's when i heard tristan quietly arguing with someone over the phone.

"you need to stop calling me so much" he spoke. "...of course, i care - that baby is mine too".

i furrowed my brows. this guy has a baby?

"...no, that's not how it works, alexa. you need to sign the papers and that's it, we're not married anymore. lex, i'm being serious. i have to keep saying that i'm talking to work, but she'll get suspicious soon" tristan added.

i can't believe that this idiot has been lying to savannah like this, to fucking all of us. i moved closer to the door to make sure that i wasn't mistaken in any way.

"...no, i'm not doing that...i can't even deal with this right now. i'll talk to you later, alexa. bye" he hung up the phone, so i rapidly made my way towards my own room.

so, all of these business calls were just a cover up for his secret baby and marriage. savannah has a right to know and i should really go straight to her face and tell her. but what if tristan denies it and she doesn't believe me?

it's hard for me to even trust that she'll take my side in situations, after all that happened with max.

i finally took a shower and thought long and hard about what i was going to do about tristan's lies.

i have to tell savannah. frankly, i don't care if she's annoyed or takes it as me, trying to wreck her relationship. as long as she knows and doesn't get hurt is all i care about at this point.

i came downstairs, wanting to find her but i saw that everyone had left the living room and were now in the kitchen. they sat or stood around the room, watching savannah and tristan talking out on the deck.

"i wonder what they're talking about" sammy questioned, leaning against the counter top.

"we shouldn't be wondering, we should be giving them privacy" lauren told.

i creased my brows in confusion, "what's going on?".

"tristan and savannah went out to the back and they've been talking for like fifteen minutes" nate explained to me. "the conversation looks pretty tense".

lauren gasped, "maybe he's going to propose".

"without my permission?" johnson exclaimed.

nate shook his head, "nah, it's too early for that. maybe he's breaking up with her or she's breaking up with him".

"jack would like that since he's still hung up on her" sammy nudged my arm with grin. i gave him a look to shut up, so he suppressed his smile.

"oh my gosh, you are?" lauren turned to me and i was surprised that she seemed almost excited.

"i'm not hung up on her" i corrected, pulling my hands down my face.

"but you still have feelings for her?" johnson wondered and i slowly nodded my head, looking out at her through the window.

"you always choose the worst timing, don't you jack?" lauren told me and umfortunately, i had to agree.

we continued to observe tristan and savannah's body language, but they were incredibly hard to read.

"lo, savannah tells you everything. what's going on out there?" sammy eagerly pushed.

"i swear to you, i haven't got a clue" she replied.

"guys, they're turning around" johnson announced.

everyone acted as casual as they could, talking and moving around the kitchen like we weren't just trying to figure out their conversation.

savannah opened the door, being the first to come back inside. i could instantly tell that she was upset by something, but then she looked at me — it was as if i did something wrong.

although she didn't hesitate to leave the kitchen straight after and hurry upstairs.

"tristan, what happened?" lauren questioned him.

he sighed, "we were just talking, i told her that i loved her and she completely froze on me".

i scoffed to myself, hardly believing that he'd try to get away with all of his secrets.

i left the kitchen and went to follow savannah upstairs to fully understand what was going on with her. i softly knocked on door.

"tristan, i'm sorry for running out like that but—" i cut her off by entering the room. she lifted her head as she sat on the edge of the bed.

"i just came to see if you were okay" i told her.

"this is your fault, you know?" she retorted.

i narrowed my eyes, "my fault?".

"yes. if you had never asked me if i loved tristan last night, then right now i wouldn't feel...i wouldn't feel like this".

"like what?".

"so confused" she pushed her hair back.

i came further into the room, "all i did was ask you a question".

"no, you basically asked me if i could ever be in love with anyone other than you!".

"so? how is that a problem?" i argued back, dropping my hands by my side.

"because i'm in a relationship, i have a boyfriend. you should know that—".

"savs, i'm not sorry for being in love with you!" i yelled over her.

a silence quickly encompassed us. i didn't mean to blurt those words out, but i did and i knew that savannah was stunned too by how she was refusing to blink.

"my feelings for you never disappeared" i admitted. "you were the only one who ever kept saying that we were over, or finished. i just agreed for your sake".

she stood up, "jack—".

"okay so yes, i did basically ask if you could ever be in love with someone other than me and you still haven't answered my question".

she stared down at her hands, twiddling her fingers and lacking any sort of eye contact with me.

"i...i don't know" she muttered.

i took a few steps to approach her, "what are you so afraid of, savs?".

she finally looked me in the eyes as our bodies stood inches apart from one another. i took held of her hands and slowly intertwined our fingers together, moving my lips down towards her ear.

"tell me, baby" i whispered.

"what if we mess this up again? what if we hurt each other and that's our last shot?" she said. "jack, i don't want to end up loosing you for good".

i cupped her face with my hands, making her look at me, "i won't let that happen. but i just can't watch you be with tristan anymore. it's killing me".

i used my thumb to softly brush her bottom lip as my hands still held onto her soft cheeks. she stared up at me as if waiting for my next move, so i leant in and placed a small kiss against her lips.

she pulled back slowly, seeming regretful. but i softened my eyes to assure her that everything was okay, then came back in to kiss her with more force.

she thankfully did the same, reaching up on her toes to lock her arms around my neck and pull my lips closer to her's.
