jack's pov

we all assumed that we'd go straight to bed after a long morning, but it was 10pm and we suggested that it would be nice to head out by the lake for a while.

we set up a small fire and sat around it on chairs and old logs, whilst roasting marshmallows to make a few s'mores.

a stupid and pointless game of truth or dare earlier caused us guys to jump into the cold lake, but it was surprisingly refreshing so i wasn't complaining.

i sat by the fire, fiddling with my phone in my hands and watching savannah and tristan feed each other marshmallows as she sat on his lap.

they've been messing around and giggling in each other's arms for the past twenty minutes, and it seemed as though i was the only one who was becoming slightly bothered.

"i'm going back in the water — lauren, you coming with this time?" i asked her as she filled up a graham cracker.

"no, i'm not in the mood of getting wet" she declined.

"but obviously that'll change when zayn arrives tomorrow" sammy immaturely responded, causing her to chuck a few crackers at him.

tristan's phone suddenly began ringing again. he huffed and dug into his pocket to look at the caller id.

"it's work" he told savannah.

"again?".

"yeah, give me a few minutes?" he offered and she moved from his lap, so that he could stand up.

"minutes, okay. not hours" savannah pointed her finger at him.

"yes, of course" he planted a kiss on her cheek, then answered the phone to make his way back towards the house.

savannah watched him walk away and all i could notice was her mood suddenly fall.

"hey savs, up for a swim?" i asked, pulling my shirt over my head and grinning to perk her up.

"in the pool — maybe, but not this lake" she grimaced.

"why not? are you scared?" i inquired to tease her.

she knitted her brows together, "of water?".

"of lake monsters".

savannah shook her head, unable to believe that i could possibly and maturely suggest that, "am i five?".

"sometimes" i shrugged. "come on, everyone's gone in but you".

"tristan hasn't" she protested.

"he doesn't count".

"lauren hasn't" savannah added, clearly trying her best to stall.

"that's expected. no offence, lo" i rubbed her shoulder beside me, before she could retaliate.

"any ways, there's no way that you're getting me in there" savannah crossed her leg over the other and sat back in her seat with pride.

after her words, i let the situation slide until i came up with the idea to sneak up behind her and carry her in.

i texted everyone else the plan and announced that i was going to pee, so that i could successfully creep up behind her.

"...three, two, one" i whispered and immediately grabbed onto savanah's waist and placed her over my shoulder.

"i knew it! i knew that you were planning something!" she exclaimed as i ran close to the lake with her trying her best to escape from my hold.

she repeatedly hit my back, "jack, i swear to god, if you—"

"three...two..." everyone began to chant as i stood on the edge of the wooden pier. "one!".

without hesitation, i jumped into the lake with savannah still tight in my arms. i let go once we were both underwater, but we soon resurfaced to the top and i shook my wet hair around.

i expected savannah to be laughing or harmlessly hitting me by now, but she looked more pissed than in the mood for any jokes.

"seriously, jack. i can't believe that you did that after i told you that i didn't want to get in the fucking water!" she yelled at me, swimming closer to the pier to hoist herself back up but i hastily grabbed her arm.

"savs, wait. i'm sorry. i was just messing around and i—" i suddenly saw her lips try its best to suppress a smile. "you're kidding, aren't you?".

she nodded and burst into laughter, before splashing some water at me, "you're so gullible".

"and you're soaked now" i stated, swimming closer towards her.

"i'm gonna get you back for this" she confidently insisted.

"i'd like to see you try" i scoffed, whilst we remained in the lake, fully clothed and at a point where the others couldn't hear us and we couldn't hear them.

savannah grinned at me and shook her head, "...i hate you".

"no, you don't".

"i should" she whispered, keeping a smile on her face that i was uncontrollably adoring right now. "...what?".

i licked my lips as she was clearly confused by my lack of words.

"are you two gonna get out or what?" sammy's voice interrupted.

savannah turned around to swim back to the pier and climb out, so i followed after her.

we sat drying ourselves with towels and keeping close to the fire to keep warm. tristan soon came back to join us and noticed savannah's now, wet hair.

"what happened to you?" he wondered and savannah glared at us all, but mostly me.

"ask them" she replied, then stroked his arm as he sat back down beside her. "everything at work okay?".

"perfect" tristan nodded and hugged his arms around her to help keep her dry and warm, so i looked away to keep my attention on johnson's conversation instead.

"i think we're going to call it a night" savannah told everyone after we were all completely dried up from our lake antics.

"yeah, we'll see you all in the morning" tristan stood as they gathered a few of their things together.

"i'm gonna crash too, i have to pick up zayn at the airport in the morning" lauren yawned and caught up with them, before it was just the guys and i remaining.

savannah quickly came jogging back, "i left my phone and sweater".

she started looking around the area where she sitting, clutching a blanket around her entire body for warmth.

"are you still salty that i threw you in the lake?" i inquired, just as she reached to the ground to pick up what she left behind.

"let's just say that i'm already plotting your revenge, gilinsky" she replied.

i leant forward in my seat, curving my lips into a smirk, "oh yeah?".

we could honestly stand here and tease each other all night, so she sighed and turned on her feet to continue back to the cabin.

"goodnight jack — better sleep with your eyes open" she called out, walking away from us.

"hello? what about us?" nate yelled.

"goodnight to you guys too" savannah glanced behind her and corrected.

i started chuckling to myself at the amount of fun that savannah and i have managed to have today, and this probably wouldn't have happened if we didn't talk and hang out at her place that one time last week.

i stared ahead at her reaching the house, moving my head to get a better view and make sure that she got inside okay.

"forgotten how to blink gilinsky?" sammy snickered.

i frowned at him, "what?".

"you were just drooling over savannah" johnson added a smirk onto his face too.

"no, i wasn't" i defended, clearing my throat.

"yes, you were" nate commented. "and you were flirting with her all evening".

i rolled my eyes, "alright, when did i—".

"the burger," sammy started counting. "play fighting, teasing her, throwing her into the lake".

"we're just having fun, isn't that the point of this trip?" i backed myself up at their delusions, then rose from my seat. "come on, let's get this fire out before we head to bed"

i was completely weak and tired from the day that all i wanted to do was fall onto my bed and sleep. as soon as we reached the property of the cabin, a car's headlights shone nearby.

they soon became brighter as the car pulled up outside the house and i don't know if i was going crazy, but i knew that i recognised the driver in the seat.

"surprise!" nadine jumped out of her car, grinning excitedly at us all.

my eyes widened as i was definitely surprised by her arrival.

"nadine, what...what are you doing here?" i questioned, coming closer to her.

"well, you invited me and i told you that i couldn't make it, but turns out that i could. so, here i am" she flung her arms over me and hugged me tightly, that my only reaction was to hug her back.

she placed a quick kiss on my lips as i tried my best to continue smiling at her sudden arrival.

"sammy, johnson, nate! it's so good to see you all again" nadine also hugged them all individually.

"you too" johnson spoke over her shoulder, giving me a look to explain but i had no idea of what to say. "this is such a great surprise".

the front door to the house opened and savannah slowly stepped out in an oversized jumper, wooly socks, her hair tied up and a cup of hot chocolate in her hands.

"savannah" nadine said.

"nadine" savannah responded. "what brings you here? to nevada, on our cabin trip?".

she glanced at me and once again, i had no valid answer.

"i was invited and i knew that i'd miss jack, so i thought i'd surprise him" nadine took held of my hand and smiled a little too much at savannah.

"it's just five days" she scoffed at her.

nadine shrugged, placing her hand on her hip, "what's your point?".

"okay, why don't we take your bags upstairs, nadine?" i was quick to mention because it seemed as though their conversation had the potential to rise into an argument.

i helped her with her minimal bags and everyone else followed us inside, so that we could all finally go to bed.
