epilogue part. 1 of 2
savannah's pov
"so when are you going to tell everyone?" lauren questioned - her arms folded across her chest.
"well, my mom and dad already know since jack asked for his blessing but we were thinking now, ya know, at dinner" i explained.
we stood in the kitchen of my parents' home back in la.
jack decided that it would be a good idea to host a dinner with my parents, his parents, lauren, johnson, sammy and nate - just to bring everyone together for the big reveal.
"wow, really?" lauren's eyes widened and i nodded to answer. "i'm so happy for you by the way. you've had your fair share of boyfriends throughout the years but from the day that i met you and jack, i knew that you two were best friends that will end up getting married one day".
i held my hands up a little to stop her, "woah lo, it's not your maid of honour speech yet".
"fuck, am i going to be maid of honour?" she exclaimed in a whisper.
"yes. who else do you think i would have picked?".
"i don't know, the guys would find a way to turn it into a man of honour and compete with me".
i chuckled, looking through the open kitchen door at the boys adorably catching up in the living room.
"i love the guys and they're my best friends too, but you're my girl best friend - that's the most important one" i told, leaving her to smile warmly.
"dinner's all set, girls" my mom popped her head into the kitchen and said.
"you ready?" lauren took a deep breath as if it were her own announcement that she was about to blurt out.
i nodded and followed her out of the kitchen and into the dining room, where everyone already was preparing to eat.
time passed of laughing, reminiscing and updating each other on our lives right now. every now and then, jack and i would look over at one another and gesture for the other person to say something once silence faded in.
but i was too chicken and so was jack, but eventually i gave him a pleading look and a pouty face that he can never resist before he finally spoke up.
"uh guys, do you mind if i make a quick toast?" he began, encouraging everyone to raise their glasses. "so i'd just like to say that these moments mean the most to me, when i'm able to come back to my hometown and spend time with my family and friends who mean so much to me".
"woah g, who's dying?" johnson commented, receiving a few chuckles from others.
jack playfully rolled his eyes, "no one's dying, but i'm just saying that it's times like this that make me excited to make announcements to you all such as how last week, i asked savannah to marry me".
"holy s—".
"samuel, language" katherine interrupted his profanity. "but oh my god, my baby!".
jack's mom grabbed him beside her and covered his cheek in kisses as she began to cry with tears of joy.
"aw, finally! i'm so happy for you two!" she added, taking my hand from across the table and gently squeezing it.
"me too, kids. congratulations to you both" david said.
"this is insane" nate replied. "i can't believe this day finally came".
i smiled at them all, "thank you everyone".
"okay, come here! show us the ring" katherine gushed and i stood up to gather around her, my mom and lauren as they admired the silver diamond in awe.
the room fell into two huddles of conversation - the girls crying on one end, then the guys giving jack bro hugs with johnson tearing up on the side, even though he knew before jack even proposed.
i let out a small sigh of relief at everyone's positive reactions and glanced over at the boys, catching jack already staring at me. he stood with his hands in his trouser pockets and a smile growing across his pink lips.
my heart raced as i stared back at my handsome fiancé just before he gave me a quick wink above his smirk and returned to the conversation.

"i can't wait to be your wife" i whispered to jack, running my finger gently down his face. i could merely see his features through the curtains that lit up from the streetlight outside.
"mrs savannah gilinsky does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it?" jack chuckled. "...but i can't wait to be your husband too".
we were both lying in my childhood bedroom at 11pm and in that moment, reality hit me and i couldn't control the tears that were starting to fall down my cheeks.
"savs? are you crying?" jack questioned, gently stroking my arm. "baby, what's wrong?".
i sniffed, "it's stupid, don't worry".
"no, tell me" he said whilst edging my waist closer to himself. he pulled me onto his body so that my legs were on either side of her torso and i lay my head on his chest.
he ran his fingers down my hair and kissed my head.
"thank you" i managed to say.
"for what?".
"for everything. for always coming back to me even though i've made some really stupid decisions over the past year. there's so many times where i could have lost you forever and i can't even imagine what that would have been like".
jack chuckled as i sat up and stared down at me.
"baby, look at you, stop crying" he grabbed my hand. "i've done my fair share of stupid things too but that's what makes us perfect for each other. we're two stupid idiots that are going to spend the rest of their life together being stupid...here in la".
i cocked my head back in confusion, "la?".
"still wanna move to la?".
my heart began leaping inside my chest, "jack, what did you do?".
he leant over and switched on the bedside lamp and sat up too as i stayed on his lap.
"okay, don't freak out. but i sorted out a job here and i also spoke to vogue and they'd be happy to transfer you to the la one" jack explained and without hesitation, i squealed and locked my arms around his neck.
"oh my god, are you serious?!" i exclaimed. "we're moving back home?".
"we have a bunch of house viewings this week - two of the places are not too far from work and reasonably close to friends and family".
i grabbed his face and locked my lips onto his, struggling to control myself with how amazing this man is before me.
jack rolled me over so that i was lying back on the bed and he was hovering over me. he pulled away and stroked my thumb against his cheek.
"i fucking love you, jack finnegan gilinsky".
he licked his lips and smiled, clearly holding in a tear on his waterline.
"i love you too, savannah brooks" jack's voice sincerely cracked a little.
his deep voice practically pierced through my chest and i knew that there was no way that i could wait to finally spend the rest of my life with the man that i have loved since we were just sixteen.
