jack's pov
i shut the front door behind me, chucking the keys onto the side table.
"where did you go?" savannah asked as she sat on the couch with her knees hunched up.
"out" i vaguely responded, going to get a glass of wine. i took a sip and stared through the open kitchen at a tiny suitcase sitting in the corner. "who's suitcase?".
"mine" she quietly spoke.
"well, where are you going?".
savannah finally turned her head to me, "to stay over at kendall's place for a few days".
i scoffed as i poured more wine into my glass, "running away from our problems?".
"no, jack. i just think that this will be good for us" she stood up and walked towards me. "to just calm down a little and take a breather. i mean, how did we even get to this? things were fine months ago".
i shook my head, "we? you mean, how did you get us to this, savs. this is down to you and max, okay. it always has been".
she took a second to take in what i said, before wiping the tear in her eye and heading to our room.
as soon as she walked away, i regretted every word. savannah and max may have wreaked some havoc to our relationship, but that doesn't change the fact that i love her, and that i still hate seeing her cry.

even though it's just the two of us in this house, it can sometimes get a little loud. but the next morning, silence travelled through every room and wouldn't stop circulating.
i stirred the sugar in the coffee that i had just prepared whilst standing in my suit, ready for my first day back to work after the holiday.
i didn't even have to turn around to know that savannah had entered the room as her heels tapped against the floor.
"good morning" she said.
i sighed, putting the sugar back in the cupboard, "morning".
i turned around and quickly remembered one of the top reasons as to why i hate arguing with savannah, because when she looks hot, i'm barely able to do anything about it.
"jack, i know that i'm going over to kendall's place but how long is this going to continue? you being mad at me?" she inquired and i drank my coffee, trying to find a response but a text from her phone interrupted me.
savannah checked the message and quickly typed a reply.
"i have to go, actually. but i'll see you on friday" she told me and i nodded my head, as she took her small suitcase and handbag, then left the house.
with my coffee mug, i went towards the window to watch savannah leave. i instantly recognised the black range rover parked outside, but i squinted my eyes to check again and now knew that it definitely wasn't kendall's.
i saw savannah finally exit the building and it wasn't long before, max stepped out of the driver's seat and helped her put her suitcase in the car.
my heart instantly sped up at the scene. after everything and begging me to forgive her, she's still deciding to see max and have a relationship with him.
clenching my fist, i watched as savannah got into the car until max happened to look up at the building.
he spotted me in the window and gave me that smug smirk that i despise - although i walked away, before i could convince myself to go down there and do something i'd regret.
i can't believe savannah would lie to me like this. how can she make me believe that she's staying at kendall's place tonight, when i should have known that this would give her the perfect opportunity to be with max.
it's just funny how someone can go from being the one person that you trust the most, to one of the least.
hours later, i sat in my office with my head resting on my hand.
i was scrolling through the long and pointless email that half of the employees have been forced to read today, but i was mostly focused on savannah and max than all the words on the screen.
a knock on the door thankfully disrupted my thoughts, so i sat up and cleared my throat.
"come in" i called out.
nadine popped her head through the door with a smile, "hey, jack. good morning". {picture of nadine above}
"good morning" i tried to smile back.
"just to remind you that there's a meeting in an hour".
my eyebrows rose as i looked down and checked my calender, "oh. really? since when?".
"boss just thought he'd throw it in there today like we don't already have millions of paperwork to do" she told.
i chuckled as i agreed with her, "typical".
"right. well, i just came to remind you, so i'll see you then" nadine said, almost closing the door completely until i abruptly stood up.
"nadine, wait" i said. "you know last night when you offered me that night out, you know to get away from all the drama with my girlfriend, how about tonight?".
a tiny smile grew on her face, "really?".
"yeah, it'll be fun" i nodded, running my tongue over my lips.
"okay. so, maybe at the end of the day, i'll text you on what time we can meet".
"great" i smiled back.
nadine nodded her head, tucking her hair behind her ear, "bye jack".
just as she left and i sat back down in my desk chair, the door was barely close to closing before derek and caleb immediately walked in.
"jack, you're such a lucky shit!" derek exclaimed.
i creased my eyebrows in confusion, "why?".
"you're hanging out with nadine tonight - not to sound like a school kid, but she's the hottest woman in our department" caleb mentioned.
"seriously?" i questioned.
"don't tell me you didn't notice? half of the women that work here are thirsty for you any ways" he added and i scoffed at his words.
"yeah, right".
"no, we're serious" derek corrected. "i'm pretty sure that most of them only talk to us just to get to you".
i rolled my eyes, then tried to focus back on the email on my computer screen.
"any ways, what are you doing with nadine? what happened to savannah?" derek asked, sitting on the edge of my desk.
"we're not going on a date, we're just hanging out. i'm pretty sure that you two can come along too" i shrugged without looking up.
caleb loudly clasped his hands together, "okay, if nadine's friends are there, i'm definitely there".
"me too" derek stood. "but if things work out with her, does this mean i can have savannah?".
i looked up from the screen, knitting my eyebrows together and sternly staring at derek with my arms folded.
he held his hands up, "sorry. i get it, i'm leaving now".
caleb laughed whilst we watched derek hastily head to the door, "talk to you later, man".

i'd never usually spend my monday night cheering on a group of ladies to down a bunch of shots. but i guess, it helps if you're trying to distract the fact that your girlfriend is most likely cheating on you right now with a guy you hate.
"okay, it's jack's turn" nadine suddenly said, clinging onto my arm.
"no way, i can't get drunk. i have work tomorrow" i told her over the music.
"hello? so do we? come on, you said you wanted to have fun" she begged whilst i continued to stay quite hesitant, since i'd already had two beers tonight. "please. for me, i'll even do it with you".
i chuckled at her pouting face then finally gave in, "okay, okay".
derek came back to our booth with a tray full of shots, then him and everyone else counted down from three before nadine and i took in the three vodka shots, and then four more.
the night quickly passed - derek, caleb and the girls went up to dance whilst nadine continued to sit at the booth with me, attempting to rant to her.
"see, that's...that's what i don't get?" she slurred. "how can your girlfriend ditch you for some random british lad when she can have an american hottie like you?".
i snickered, trying to stay seated upright, "i-i ask myself the same question everyday".
nadine drunkenly laughed at my words then gripped onto my arm, "i never actually realised how funny you are".
"there's a lot you don't know about me".
she pointed her finger and edged closer, "t-that's because you never tell me".
"well i can tell you now, but-but we need some place quiet" i whispered to her.
"my house is just down the street!" nadine exclaimed.
"will we even make it while we're this drunk?" i chuckled and she did the same.
"there's no harm in trying" she told me as she struggled to stand up, but eventually did.
i looked at our friends continuing to dance, then looked up at her, "okay, let's go".
taking nadine's hand, we rushed through the busy crowd in the nightclub as our friends took no notice of us even leaving.
she took off her heels as we laughed hysterically and stumbled down the street with people constantly staring at us going by.
but we soon reached our destination and struggled for about two minutes to get up the few steps that led up to nadine's house. although once we did, she emptied her bag onto the top step to find her keys and open the door.
"shhh" she told me, holding her finger to her lips as i shut the front door behind me.
"why? don't...don't you live alone?" i slurred and we laughed, as i leant against the wall for support and her body fell onto mine.
our laughter quickly died down whilst we stood in the dark hallway in silence. i could only feel the alcohol reacting in my system until nadine reached up and kissed my lips.
she pulled away with a giggle beneath her drunken eyes, "shhh, don't tell savannah".
we instinctually fell back into laughter as she pulled my shoulder down and kissed me again, before taking my hand and heading for the stairs.
