Two Weeks Later
Aella POV

I woke up one morning still feeling tired, a bit nauseous, and a little cold. Last night was really chilly and I'm not sure what happened to my heavy blanket that I normally sleep under. I would've slept in a bit if the sun hadn't peeked through my window and shone right in my eyes.
For some reason I felt that something was different about today. Like there was gonna be something exciting. Then it hit me like a rock. Today was my birthday. I was now twelve.

I no longer felt tired any more. A wave of happiness washed over me and I immediately jumped out of bed, opened the door to my room, ran out, slid down the banister of the staircase and landed in the kitchen.
My two younger sisters Amy and Alissa were seated at the table waiting for breakfast. They were my only two siblings that weren't away.

I saw my mom at the stove making something that smelled delicious. I turned a bit and caught a glimpse of what it was. It was sweet, warm feeling, and was topped with melting chocolate chips. Pancakes!
I took a deep breath in and inhaled the sugary smell. I couldn't wait to have one. Or two. Or maybe five.

Six year old Alissa turned to look at me, jumped up from the table, and ran out to give me a hug.

"Happy birthday Aella." She said while still holding onto me. I hugged her back and she eventually went back to her seat at the table.

My mom turned around to look at me when she heard Alissa say Happy Birthday.

"Hi Aella! Happy Birthday! And since it's your special day I thought that you should have your favourite breakfast!" Explained my mom.

She took a pancake off the pan, put it on a play near her, and sprinkled little chocolate chips onto it.

"Here! You get the first one!" She said while handing me the plate.

I took it and got a seat at the table right across from Amy and Alisssa. There were already forks and knives on the table by my place do I took those and started cutting the smooth, golden brown pancake. Just because it was my birthday, I stuck my finger in the melting chocolate and licked it off my finger.
My two sisters got their pancakes a few minutes after me so they were enjoying it just as much as me.

Time Skip

I was in the middle of getting dressed when my mom opened the door which surprised me because I didn't hear her come down the hallway.

"Sorry sweety. I just wanted to give you this." She said while handing me a perfectly wrapped box with a bow on top. It was about the size of my hand but a bit larger.

"It's from Alexia. She wanted me to give this to you a but early." My mom explained.

"Thanks! Do you know what it is?" I asked.

"All she said was that she wanted you to wear it today before you left." She answered.
My mom stood up and left the room while closing the door behind her.

I unwrapped the box slowly and making sure not to ruin any of the paper.
I lifted the lid of the box and saw there was something wrapped up in blue tissue paper. I unwrapped the paper and in my hand was, carved from sparkling diamonds into the shape of a cloud, a locket. On the front there was an engraved A.
I turned it around in my hand and saw a bit of paper sticking out of the side. I opened up the locket and out popped a little note. I unwrapped it and read the note.

Dear Aella,
Happy Birthday! I hope your day is going well so far.
I carved this locket out of some diamonds that I found in the Overworld. I hope you like it.
It would mean the world to me if you wore this for your birthday. And maybe when you head to the end. I don't know. You can if you want.
There's nothing in it as you can see but when I come back from my journey from the Nether I would like to take a picture of you and I and put it in your locket. That way you can have a memory of me for a while until you want to change the picture.
I am terribly sorry I couldn't make it to see you on your birthday but enjoy this day anyway. I'll be back as soon as I can.

When I finished reading the note, I picked up the locket and undid the clasp. I put the chain around my neck and did the clasp back up. I adjusted the locket so it was in the middle of my chest.
Yep! I definitely thought that today was gonna be the best.

Time Skip

I flew over the courtyard where the queen A.K.A. aunt Anna was busy setting up the place for my party. She was tasting the dishes that cooks brought out, choosing which flowers looked the best in which pot and stuff like that. I think that it's one of the most boring jobs ever.

When I landed, I was just a few blocks away from Anna. She spotted me almost immediately. As soon as she saw me, her face lit up, and she came to me with her arms out awaiting a hug.
I ran into her and was engulfed in a nice warm hug.

"Happy birthday Aella!" She said happily.

"Thanks!" I exclaimed.

She and I pulled apart and she gave me one of the warmest feeling smiles ever.

"We're almost done setting everything up for your party. It'll begin in about an hour so you have that much time to get ready and make sure all your stuff is packed." She explained. My aunt Anna was the type of Aether being that liked giving out commands and stuff. But I still loved her.

I unfolded my wings and waved goodbye and said that I would see her soon again.
I lifted off into the sky towards Ally's house. Or Aidan's I should call it.

When I reached Aidan's, I went to the door and knocked. In less than five seconds, Ally answered the door. As soon as she saw me, she jumped out and hugged me.

"Happy birthday Aella!" She exclaimed.

"Thanks!" I said while hugging her back.

"I have a present to give to you! But first I have to get it." She explained.

I nodded and she raced back inside. I followed after her but walked. I saw Aidan at the table eating breakfast.
When he saw me, he swallowed and said Happy birthday.
I nodded and thanks and continued to Ally's room. I waited outside her door while she got whatever she needed.
When she came out, Ally was holding a large bag on her shoulder that was different shades of red, orange, and yellow.

"It's in here! But I don't want anyone else to see it so can we go somewhere where nobody will watch us?"

I nodded. "Sure! We can go to....." I leaned in closer so Aidan wouldn't hear.

"My island."

"Perfect! Let's go!" She said! Ally was very enthusiastic today. It's kind of strange.

I followed Ally to the end of the floating island and we both took off. She was doing excited flips and spins in the air. It was really strange. I've never Ally this excited before.
She was going a lot faster than me so I had to beat my wings a little harder just to keep up.

When we got to my private floating island, Skyewood came bounding to me happily. I bent down and picked him up. I stroked his blue scales and he purred.
I looked up and saw Ally bouncing up and down looking so excited to give me whatever she wanted to give me.
I put Skyewood down and walked towards Ally. She was dangerously close to the edge of the island but I thought that she would be fine.
I started to sit down on the edge of the island but Ally stopped me.

"No! Don't sit down! You uh, have to stand up for this gift." She explained sounding a little suspicious but I shrugged it off.

"Uh, okay." I said awkwardly. I stood up again and went towards her.

Ally moved a bit, away from the edge of the island and I was happy that she did. She went into her bag and pulled out a purple cloth bag that was about the size of my hand.

"What is it?" I asked moving my hands toward it attempting to put it in my hands but Ally moved it out of the way like she didn't want me to touch it.

"I'll show you." She said.

Ally undid the ribbon at the top of the bag and poured something out of it and onto her hand. It was red, orange, and yellow, and looked a bit like fire.

"This is called blaze powder." Ally explained.

I stood there in aw. "It's beautiful!" I exclaimed. My wings folded out because that's what sometimes happens to Aether beings when they're happy.

Ally moved her face closer to the powder on her hand. "Smell it! It's the nicest smell ever!" She said while taking a huge inhale. She ended up moving her foot a bit while doing that and it hit my battleaxe that was hanging on my belt. It swung back and forth and fell off my belt and hit the ground with a THUMP!

"Sorry, I'll get that after." Ally apologized.

"It's fine." I said.

Ally smiled. "Come on, smell it."

I moved my head in closer and inhaled a deep breath through my nose. The powder traveled up my nose and the smell was like a rotten dragon egg. I cringed but tried my best to smile at Ally.

She moved her mouth closer to the powder and I did as well for some reason. She opened her mouth and..... blew!
It all happened in fast motion.
She blew a huge amount of air and a bunch of the powder traveled with it! And right into my eyes.
I coughed and sputtered while a bunch of the powder got in my mouth. It was like getting a bunch of sand in your eyes but worse. It stung that mad!

"Sorry!" Ally exclaimed.

But then I felt someone grab my right wing, and snap it back. A bunch of the little bones in my wing made a crunch sound.
I cried out in pain from the sudden movement of my wing. It felt like someone dislocated it.
When I finally managed to open my eyes a bit, I saw Ally smiling evilly. She lifted her foot up, and I felt this terrible pain in my chest. She had just kicked me square in the chest.  The wind was knocked right out of me for several half seconds. The worst part was that I felt myself fall backwards, off the island, with a broken wing, and hurting chest.

I heard Ally's voice fade as I fell farther away.
"Bye Aella! Oh! And by the way, I never was thrown out of the Nether! I...................." But I couldn't hear her anymore.
I just fell, and fell, and fell, and fell. I couldn't hear anything but my rapidly beating heart.

This is it! I thought.
I'm gonna die!

Unknown POV Now Revealed: Nashira POV (Didn't see that coming huh?)

I saw Aella fall off the floating island and fade into the clouds. Now that's one part of my plan completed!

I reached in my bag and pulled out the lime green potion that I had taken Aella's blood sample for.
I popped the cork off and drank the entire bottle.
I tasted a strange salty type of flavour and I looked at my reflection in the empty bottle.
My face was merging into what seemed like Aella. My hair changed into a dark brown colour just like Aella's. A strip of the left side of my hair changed a blue colour.
In a few short seconds, I didn't look like an Aether form of myself anymore. Now I looked completely like Aella Skyewood. Thanks to the potion, my voice was changed too. No one would suspect a thing.

I picked up Aella's battle axe that I said I would pick up after and walked to the edge of the floating island and lifted off into the sky. I had to get to the palace for a birthday party.

Well, there's an exciting chapter for you! That was the plot I was thinking of ever since I thought of making this book. Hope you're still enjoying this book still and I'll try to update as soon as I can.
