15 | oh, how the tables have turned
"Can you tell me what happened?" Stefan asked in a calm tone.
"I, uh," she began looking around the hospital room in a haze.
“It’s okay,” Stefan encouraged, “Take your time.”
“Damon Salvatore,” she said and Damon’s head snapped toward her, “Damon Salvatore did this to me.”
“No, no, no,” Damon protested looking at his younger brother, “This time it was not me.”
Stefan turned back to the girl and asked another question, pointing at his brother, “Have you ever met this man.”
The girl looked up at him and tilted her head in thought, “No, I’ve never met him before.”
He let out a sigh, “Can you tell me exactly what happened?”
“Damon Salvatore did this.”
“She’s been compelled,” Damon established. “Three guesses by who.”
“Why though?” Stefan asked, rubbing his hand over his face. It had been a week since Evelyn turned off her humanity and everything was only getting more and more complicated. “What does it accomplish?”
“Who knows?” Damon sighed. “I’m sure it’s just a distraction from her actual plan. We can’t have the town finding out about us.”
“I’m aware,” Stefan said, shifting his gaze from the hospitalized girl to his brother, “Compel her to keep quiet.”
”What?” Damon asked. He had heard the request but found it odd coming from his brother ‘Saint Stefan.’
“Compel her,” he spoke again, clearly getting irritated. “Tell her to not tell anyone what she knows. If I do it, it won’t work.”
Damon narrowed his eyes before stepping forward, “Alright, I’ll do it.”
He took a seat where Stefan had previously sat and looked into the girls eyes and compelled her, “If anyone asks, you don’t remember being attacked. You woke up in the hospital having no idea how you got here or why you're here. Do you understand?”
“I understand,” she answered robotically.
“Now forget we were here and get some rest,” Damon said before patting her hand and walking out.
“Damon!” Stefan shouted after him.
“I don’t want to hear it little brother,” Damon brushed off before vamp speeding out of the empty hospital hallway with a whoosh.
"Wasn't that just, mm, what's the word..." I spoke, stepping out of the shadows, "Pathetic."
"Evelyn," Stefan greeted nonchalantly.
"Did you really think it would be that easy?" I tsked. "See, I knew you would show up and figure out who was at fault for the latest 'animal attack.' So of course I gave the girl vervain through her IV every day."
Stefan's face dropped and he looked back at the girls room.
"Come with me," I said with a sadistic smile, entering the hospital room. "You see, as we both know I have lots of experience with vampire douche bags. I've learned some things."
I made my way to the opposite side of the room and stood beside the girls bed. "Before giving her vervain, I compelled her to do as I say, just as Scott did with me."
I turned to face the girl in the bed who looked up at me, "Hey there, remember me?" She nodded enthusiastically and I smiled with satisfaction. "This man here is a friend of mine, Stefan Salvatore. He has a little issue with blood." The girl turned to Stefan with a small smile before facing me again.
I moved my hand to her neck and pulled the bandage off, "Perfect." I took my nail and sliced open the stitches, causing the wound to reopen. I turned to Stefan and saw that I was getting the reaction I was hoping for.
"If you leave Salvatore, Pamela here will hurt herself. Now we don't want that, do we?" I asked politely.
"This isn't you, Evelyn," Stefan shook his head.
"But it is," I smirked. "You and your brother both think you know me so well. I'm not the girl you loved, I never was."
Stefan shook his head in disbelief.
"I do wonder what my dear sister will think of her boyfriend being in love with her twin." I shook away the thought, "I'll be back soon."
I took one last look at the two in the room before vamp speeding off.
I opened the door to the house before speaking, "One Salvatore down, Damon will be much harder. His love for me has always been inconvenient."
I entered the kitchen and found Katherine and Damon, I looked at them with narrowed eyes, "Oh, I hadn't realized we had a guest."
"Well that's because I'm not here to talk to you," Damon pointed out before turning to Katherine, "Remember what I said."
Damon walked past me with an unusually smug look before I heard the door shut behind him. I waited a moment before speaking, "What was that about?"
"Oh, nothing," Katherine spoke, "It was just Damon being Damon."
I narrowed my eyes but asked no questions as she continued, "So what was that you were saying about having one Salvatore down?"
"Hmm," I said in faux thought, "It was nothing."
I picked up Damon's leather jacket off the chair he left it on, an idea coming to me, "I'll be back."
"Wait," Katherine said, "Where are you going?"
"That's for me to know," I said with a sly smirk, "and you to dot, dot, dot."

I entered the house to find that no one was home. Perfect.
I made my way up the stairs, dropping his jacket off in my room before entering Elena's room.
Opening her closet, I pulled the perfect Elena-esque outfit out and grabbed her hair straightener before going to work.
After straightening my hair and throwing on her clothes, I looked exactly like Elena does on a daily basis.
I grabbed my keys off the counter and drove to the boarding house.
I rang the doorbell and waited for someone to answer. “Elena,” Damon greeted, “I assume you're here for my brother?”
“Is he here?” I asked in the most Elena voice I could muster.
“No," he answered, his eyes narrowing slightly, "but you're welcome to wait inside."
I plastered a smile on my face, "Thank you."
He stepped aside, holding the door open for me to enter. Nodding slightly, I entered the house.
“Tell Stefan I’m in his room when he gets here,” I said before walking up the stairs and heading toward Stefan’s room.
I sat down on his bed as I usually did when I came in here and looked around. It looks exactly the same.
I grabbed my bag that sat beside me and pulled the jacket out of my bag. I sprawled it across my lap and looked down at it, playing with the sleeve.
There was a creaking noise and I grabbed what I needed from the pocket and shoved it back in my bag.
"Hey, he's not answering his phone and he should have been back by now. I'm going to see if I can find him," Damon said after opening the door.
"I'm coming with you," I stood up immediately, placing my hands in the pockets of Elena's jacket.
"No, you're not."
"There's no point in arguing this Damon. I either come with you or go on my own."
He rubbed his hand over his face in frustration, "Fine. We're leaving now."
He turned away, granting me with the perfect opportunity. I plunged the syringe of vervain that was hidden in the pocket of Elena's jacket into his neck before whispering, "You really should be careful of you who you let into your home."
Damon slowly but surely fell to his knees as the vervain weakened his state and I squeezed the remaining vervain from the syringe into his bloodstream.

After situating Damon in the chair of the living room. I sat down to wait for his emergence which was sooner than I expected.
He looked around for a moment, taking in the scene when his eyes landed on me, "Evelyn."
"Damon," I responded, standing up and walking over to him, "Nice to see you again. Well maybe not so nice for you."
"Why are you doing this?" Damon asked, trying to get out of the vervain soaked ropes.
"People do bad things when they're trying to survive," I said simply, walking over to the side table. I opened the lid to Damon's good bourbon before pouring myself a drink. "She's gone you know."
"What?" Damon questioned.
"The girl you love," I answered, looking out the window in front of me, "I'm not her anymore so stop trying to get her back."
Damon stayed quiet for a moment before speaking up, "I was afraid you'd say that."
I turned back to face him but he was gone. I turned back around and was met by a syringe filled with vervain. I slowly faded away and fell into Damon's arm, unable to do anymore than stay there.
