14 | ticking time bomb baby

Not caring is quite possibly the best decision I have ever made. Why didn't I do it sooner?

Because you have the Salvatore brothers up your ass. Right.

I made my way down the stairs to find Elena, Stefan and Damon in the kitchen. My guess is they are filling her in on what happened and asking her to watch out for me.

I opened the fridge and scanned it before shutting it again and turning to face the trio that was currently staring at me.

"Do you need something?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

Damon and Stefan shared a look before Elena spoke, "You seem...perfectly okay."

"That's because I am perfectly okay."

I rolled my eyes at them before walking over to the front door and grabbing a jacket.

"Where are you going?" Stefan asked.

"For a snack," I smirked slightly, "I haven't had anything to drink today and well...I'm thirsty."

I walked out the door, ignoring any comments from the kitchen when I heard the door open behind me.

I let out a sigh before facing Damon, "Yes?"

He approached me, not saying anything. He grabbed my chin and looked into my eyes, looking for something.

"No..." he trailed off, "You didn't..."

A smirk grew on my face, "You got it. One point to the older Salvatore."

Elena and Stefan joined us a moment later.

"What's going on?" Elena asked, the only one not understanding what's happening.

I rolled my eyes, "Elena, always the ignorant one."

Damon looked back at the two in disbelief, clearly unsure of how to handle the situation.

"Well as much as I would love to chat, I have things to do," I said as I turned around but Damon grabbed my arm stopping me.

"Evelyn, you can't," he said, sincerity written all over his face.

My face softened and I looked at him, "That's...adorable. You think you can stop me?"

I yanked my arm from his grip before I was off.

-

"Yoohoo, Katherine! I know you're in here!" I shouted into the abandoned house.

She didn't respond and I rolled my eyes. For someone who loved attention she was never there when someone actually wanted to talk to her.

I took this time to observe where she has been living. She has awful taste. I gently pushed a vase off of the table and it landed on the floor with a crash, "Oops."

"It's not nice to touch things that don't belong to you," Katherine finally emerged.

"Well I'm sorry if I gave you the impression that I care," I shook my head, "Look Katerina, I'm only here because I need the Salvatore's to leave me alone. And I need you to distract them."

"Hmm," she said, thinking it over, "I'll think about it."

She tried to walk out but I stood in front of her, "Oh no, you aren't going to 'think about it.' You are going to help, because if you don't I won't think twice before ripping your throat out."

A smirk slowly grew on her face, "I like the new you."

I gave her a satisfactory smile, "Me too."

-

"Evelyn!" the all too cheery voice of Matt Donavon invaded my ears.

"Matt, good to see you," I said with a faux smile, holding my cup in the air briefly before taking a sip.

"Don't you think you should be doing a better job at hiding that?" Matt suggested, clearly uncomfortable with the aspect of me drinking blood in public.

"I'm a vampire Matt, it's kind of what we do," I rolled my eyes before removing my feet off the stool next to me.

Matt let out a sigh before getting back to work.

I rolled my eyes before standing up and walking toward the door, running into the two people I didn't have the energy to deal with.

I turned back to Matt, "You told on me?"

He put his hands up in defense before walking away and I faced the brothers, "What do you want?"

"For you to think about whatever it is you're planning and stop," Damon answered simply.

"And what makes you think I'm planning something?" I asked with a smile.

"Because we know you," Stefan pointed out.

"No you don't. Not this me," I shook my head, "The me you know was too afraid to be herself because you two wouldn't like her anymore. But I don't care what you think."

"You'll regret whatever it is you're going to do," Damon narrowed his eyes on the girl he thought he knew so well, "We always win."

"The Earth is littered with the ruins of empires that believed they were eternal."

"What?" Stefan asked, clearly not understanding my point. He looked at Damon for help but he shook his head, not understanding either.

I let out an unfamiliar laugh, "It's a quote from Camille Paglia. And, Salvatore one and two, what it means is your reign here isn't going to last much longer."

I walked out, pushing past the two and made my way to the town center.

"Took you long enough," Katherine spoke up, irritation laced in her voice.

"Get over it, I'm here now, aren't I?"

"Lets not do this here," Katherine suggested, a look of disgust on her face, "I don't want any of your little friends mistaking me for Elena."

"Fine, your place in 15, I have an errand to run."

-

"Stefan!" Caroline shouted frantically into the boarding house, "Stefan, where are you?"

"What do you need barbie?" Damon questioned, taking a sip of his bourbon.

"We may have a big problem," she shook her head frantically as Stefan and Elena joined.

"Elena, have you seen Evelyn today?" Caroline asked.

"Not since this morning," Elena furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.

"That's what I was afraid of..."

"What happened?" Stefan asked.

"I saw Evelyn earlier...talking to Katherine."

"Katherine?" Elena shook her head in disbelief, "No, there's no way."

"She's working with Katherine?" Damon shouted in anger, less of a question, more as a statement.

"Damon, calm down. We don't know that for sure," Stefan tried to reason.

"Yes we do. She saw them talking," he continued, referring to Caroline, "It sure as hell wasn't Elena she was talking to. Tell me what else it could mean? Huh? Because I got nothing."

Stefan looked down at the floor. He didn't have an explanation either.

"We're never going to get her back," Damon whispered, as though he came to a sudden realization, "She's gone."

"Don't say that."

"It's the truth, Stefan," he said bitterly, pushing himself off the counter and walking away.

-

I licked the excess blood off my fingers before turning the girl in front of me to look me in the eyes and compelling her, "Relax, you're fine. If anyone asks what happened, blame Damon Salvatore. I was never here."

I then stood up, pushing the girl away and vamp sped to Katherine's place.

"You're late," she tsked.

"And?" I raised an eyebrow and took a seat. "Let's get down to business."

"I need them to understand that I'm serious about them leaving me alone. I've been doing things here and there but you're my primary tool. If they know we're working together, like I assume Caroline has already informed them, then we're right on schedule and they are planning something."

"And what exactly do you need me to do?" Katherine asked.

"I don't know but if I were you I'd figure it out because you really don't want to piss me off."
