Downsides Of being an Empath

Hey everyone this one shot was requested a while back and I Just got to do it. Thanks Descendantsfan03 for letting me use little Mal and mention the Quints in this story it means a lot anyways I hope you enjoy if you do vote and comment 💖

"Hey G, Mal and I are going to the park. Would you like to go with us?" Tessa asks as Georgie shook her head no as she needed some time alone. A park wasn't exactly what she needed right now, and she knew that. Georgie was still getting use to having a child and her friend around all the time. It was stressful for her, since she had to pretty much have to force her walls back up in her own home. It wasn't easy being an empath and being in the situation she was in.

She could feel what Tessa and Mal felt and it had been draining her a lot since she wasn't used to having her walls up to reflect them. Her home was now a home with so many feelings that she felt like setting up her tent and sleeping in her backyard. So when she got the chance to be alone she took it.

"Not today, I think I'll just hang out around here." Georgie says as she looks at Pumpkin who seemed to really want to go. Since she hadn't seen her friends for a while. "Pumpkin can go though she needs to get out for a bit, and I'm sure she wants to see her pack ." Georgie says as she pets Mira.

"You sure you've been withdrawing from activities a lot more lately. Which isn't like you." Tessa says as Georgie just nods. She didn't like worrying Tessa, but she knew she would get overstimulated if she went out today, and she didn't want that as even though she went through it a lot as a teen she still hated it.

"Yeah I'm sure Mira and I will just stay here and read. I really don't feel like going out today." Georgie says grabbing one of the books from her shelf. Tessa just nods as she was still confused at what was going on with her friend as usually Georgie was always up to going to the park, but would leave it be. She knew Georgie had her reasons.

"Come on Miss Georgie cwan you come please?" Mal asks as Georgie shook her head she couldn't go to the park. Crazy people always came up to her and she just couldn't take that today. She was already having enough of a sensory overload. She just needed to be alone for a bit.

"Aw sorry Mal but I don't think I can today. I need to clean around the house. Plus you and your Auntie should get some time alone together." Georgie says. It was the honest truth since her house was a mess and it wasn't helping her cause either.

Come on Georgie you know you're always welcome. We love having you around. Plus you haven't been out in at least a week." Tessa says as Georgie takes a breath as she didn't want to snap at Tessa it wasn't her fault that she was so overwhelmed. That's when Mira who Georgie hadn't noticed, ran out, run back in with a stuffed animal making Georgie give the puppy a smile. Before fiddling with it.

"Tessa, I'm good. Now please go." Georgie says throwing the stuffed animal up in the air and swiftly catching it. For some reason throwing the stuffed animal always calmed her and gave her something to focus on.

"Alright if you're sure." Tessa says as Georgie nods, crossing her arms. She really just wanted some peace, quiet, and air that didn't have emotions on it all the time.

"I'm sure!" Georgie says really just wanting Tessa and Mal to leave. So she could read and do stuff around the house. After they leave Georgie sighs in relief, continuing throwing the stuffed animal in the air. Mira just quickly turns off the TV as Georgie sighs grabbing a book she had bought almost a month back. Before Tessa and Mal turned her world sideways she was planning on spending a nice week reading and relaxing with her dogs. But of course her vacations could never in her life work like that. She of course didn't blame Tessa or Mal. It wasn't their fault. She was just use to her space and not having to force her walls up in her own home. Just for she wouldn't do this everyday.

Georgie then goes to the bedroom dimming the lights a bit and then closing the door. Mira just wags her tail excitedly as Georgie was about to start the sequel to their favorite book. She nudges the book in Georgie's hand before nudging it again looking at the book making Georgie chuckle as she opens the new book. "Alright, alright I'll read it. I know you have been looking forward to the sequel so I'll read maybe the first few chapters then I'm turning on some music." Georgie told the papillon mix who barks a few times before setting down.

………

"Auntie Tessa, why didn't Miss Georgie and Mira come with us?" Mal asks in confusion as Tessa shrugs. She had no idea why Georgie and Mira didn't want to come, because they hadn't been out for a few weeks, and usually she was out everyday she would have thought Georgie would be going stir crazy. Instead she wanted to stay back

"I don't know Mal. I think Pumpkin would know better than I do. Why don't you ask her?" Tessa asks as Mal nods. Running over where Pumpkin and her friends were catching up.

"Pumpkin, why Georgie not come with us?" Mal asks as Pumpkin sighs and shrugs. She knew what was going on, but Mal wouldn't understand it. Pumpkin didn't exactly understand it either she just felt that Georgie needed time on her own.

"I don't know Mal" Pumpkin answers before turning back to her friends. Who were still talking about how good of a hunter Tyson was getting to be. Mal then saw the white pomsky puppy peek through the vent. And ran over to the pomsky puppy wanting to play with Dove. Tessa just kept a close eye on both of them knowing Georgie would lose it. And she didn't want to take Mal to the hospital again. Georgie usually came with them just to make sure Pumpkin was safe. The more she thought about it. The more she realized how off it was. The last time Georgie didn't feel like going out. Was when Georgie was too sore to go out after her encounter with a soldier with PTSD and the time before that a random black dog attacked her. She always came to everything except when something was wrong.

………

"Georgie we're back!" Tessa says, noticing that Georgie's room door was closed. She sighs as she goes to put on the TV. "Mal, do you want to watch some Dragon Tales?" Tessa questions making the four year old run over excitedly. Pumpkin following behind after hearing Georgie music softly playing from her room. Which indicated she was stressed, but ultimately okay.

"Yeah!" Mal  yells out as Pumpkin jumps on the couch. Curling up in her spot grabbing her hedgehog toy. Mal quickly sat beside her as Tessa turned on the TV and made sure Mal and Pumpkin were comfortable before starting to head to Georgie rooms Pumpkin notices tough and runs in front of her growling as she knew Georgie needed to come out on her own terms.

"What's wrong Pumpkin? I just want to check on her?" Tessa says as Pumpkin hadn't growled at her since the first time they met. She knew Pumpkin was protective of Georgie, but she always let Tessa do what she needed. Did she do something to Georgie? She didn't think she did anything she certainly didn't mean to, but she still might've. Pumpkin just sighs, noticing the way that Tessa looked hurt. Pumpkin knew she just wanted to help but if Georgie was overstimulated she wouldn't want to talk.

"Tess you didn't do anything wrong I'll let you in once she actually wants to or at least smells like she wants to." Pumpkin says as she goes back to watch TV Tessa sighs but sits down in one of the chairs watching Mal and Pumpkin.

About two hours later Pumpkin and Mal we're taking a nap so Tessa decided she would try to talk with Georgie as she had been in her room all day. She tapped the door as she  grabs the door knob feeling that the door was locked. She knew she probably shouldn't bother her friend if the door was locked, but she wanted to make sure she was alright so she took a penny she found on an in table and unlocked the door. She sighs when she sees Georgie was just listening to something on her headphones. She came in and carefully sat on the bed trying not to startle her friend.

It didn't work though as Georgie just snapped her head towards Tessa. "Oh Tessa, you startled me." Georgie says as she looks towards Tessa instantly putting her walls up for Tessa's feeling wouldn't mix with her own, but she instantly caught that something was up. "Tessa what's up?" Georgie asks as she pets Mira who was asleep in her lap.

"Georgie, are you mad at me or something?" Tessa asks Georgie who looked at her in confusion. Where did Tessa get that from. It took a lot to make Georgie mad, and Tessa was the last person she would get mad at.

"What Tessa, where the heck did you get that from. I'm not mad!" Georgie says in shock as she had no idea what to say about this. Why did Tessa think she was mad? She just takes a breath feeling her emotions rise a bit. Which made Mira wake up looking at Georgie in confusion. "Mira go get Speckles again please." Georgie says as the dog nods running to the drawer and grabbing the cheetah stuffed animal which Georgie quickly grabbed from her. "Thanks girl" Georgie told the dog who lies back down.

"Well you seemed more withdrawn lately, and haven't been joining us at the park or anything like that." Tessa says Georgie just threw the cheetah toy in the air before catching it. Trying to concentrate on it as her mind still felt like it was racing a bit.

"Oh Tessa, that wasn't my reason at all. You remember what Lily told you about me being an empath?" Georgie questions before focusing on the stuffed animal again. Tessa just nods, recalling how Lily had told her a lot about Georgie's past.

"Um yeah, where does this play into why you haven't been coming out as much." Tessa asks as Georgie takes her attention off the toy and looks at Tessa. Georgie knew that Lily must have not explained it very much or not very well.

"Let me explain it. When I was around thirteen and a half I found out I was an empath. The ability to feel other people and animals emotions. It can be a blessing and a curse through the years I've learned how to control it, but it still affects me sometimes. Ugh I don't really know how to explain it." Georgie says throwing the stuffed animal putting more thought into watching it rise and fall. Taking a few calming breaths as she tries to calm down.

"G you okay?" Tessa asks gently, noticing her friends' change in demeanor. That's when she saw Mira get up nudging the book on the bed into her hand, wagging her tail hesitantly. Georgie just eyes Mira making her back away a bit knowing that Georgie needed a little space especially if she didn't want to get hit with the stuffed animal by mistake.

"Yeah, yeah I'm fine. Just my empathic abilities taking their toll on me again." Georgie says, making Tessa look at the slightly older woman who was still throwing the stuffed animal up and down. "As an empath I had to learn how to put up a wall so I wouldn't completely absorb everyone's feelings all the time otherwise I would be drained all the time. The only bad thing about it is the wall is temporary so it breaks sometimes. And I have to have time alone. Sometimes that's a lot of time alone. I just get overwhelmed more easily than others." Georgie explained as her motions with the stuffed animal slowed to her just throwing it to each of her hands.

"Yeah I get that, but you've been in the house for a while now. How are you so overwhelmed?" Tessa questions as Georgie sighs as she really really wished there was an off switch for her ability

"Well my ability does not turn off whatsoever so I'm always feeling how you and Mal feel. It's not like I can help it so sometimes when you're going out I just need a break to be able and destress clean up the house and enjoy reading a book or listening to my music. You have to understand Tessa. I am not used to living with other people. The only other time I've lived with someone was when I lived with Lily right when we got out of highschool, and she knew me so well that she knew when I needed time alone. Once I get more in the flow it will be easier for me I'm sure, but it just takes me a while to adjust." Georgie says as Tessa nods she could tell Georgie was trying to make sure that Tessa wasn't offended, and it made Tessa smile. Georgie was amazing even though she still seemed to not be as normal as she usually was.

"It's fine I know Mal and I pretty much came here unannounced, yet you took it in stride. I know this is a change for all of us. And I know we're all getting used to it. Is there anything that Mal and I can do that makes you any more comfortable?" Tessa asks as Georgie looks at the stuffed animal in her hand.

"Mainly anything loud and too many emotions at once trigger me. That's why I always leave when your sisters start arguing with each other as that is both loud and a bit too many emotions for me to deal with at once. Plus I don't like getting into those things anyways. Also it does build up, so sometimes I do need some time alone. I can usually tell when that is since I've had this ability my whole life so if I just suddenly go into my room and lock the door, don't question it I just need to calm down." Georgie told Tessa who nods when Mal ran in.

"Auntie Tessa I hungy!" Mal calls out as the friends look to each other Georgie getting up. To go make some food for her and the others as she was hungry too.

"What do you want to eat Mal?" Georgie asks as Mal smiles. Georgie instantly knew what she wanted and started to head to her freezer

"Dragon nuggets and strawberries!" Mal says excitedly as Georgie nods. She then gets the dragon nuggets she kept around and then grabs some strawberries from her fridge. Before hearing her phone ring. Georgie just glance at it seeing Mina's name bouncing around on the screen making her answer.

"Hey Mina, what's up?" Georgie answers as she starts heating up the chicken nuggets. As the calendar on her phone dings. Mina just chuckled as she heard everything going on.

"Hey Miss Georgie, I was just calling to confirm that we were still on for dinner tonight." Mina says playfully as Georgie looked at the calendar notification. That said Dinner with M at 5. She just sighs before getting an idea.

"Yeah, we're still on, but can we do it at  six I kind of forgot?" Georgie says through the phone making Mina chuckle as she knew Georgie was going to. That's why she had called to remind her.

"Yeah sure that sounds good, not that mom and dad will care that I'm out later anyways. Plus I haven't talked to you for a week and a half, and I really need to talk." Mina says through the phone  as Georgie nods.

"Alright Mira and I will see you at six at the cafe. I'll see you then Mina" Georgie says as she hangs up looking to Mira who wags her tail excitedly. As Georgie gets the chicken nugget out of the microwave, putting them on the table for Mal. She then looks at Tessa.

"Hey Tessa, would you mind watching Pumpkin while I do this. Mina loves Pumpkin and Mira , but she trust Mira way better and Pumpkin is a bit too energetic for the girl." Georgie says as Tessa nods

"Yes of course!" Tessa says as she was willing to help with Pumpkin. Plus Mal loved playing with Pumpkin. Georgie just gives her a smile.

"Thanks now I better get ready to go. I can't be late since I know that voice and something must have gone down." Georgie says worry in her voice as she throws the stuffed toy in her bag just in case she needed it and heading to her room to get changed into something a little more formal.
